Had lunch with family/friends on a Saturday afternoon. They were very accommodating considering a few of us were a little late in arriving. Meals were great with the exception of one meal coming out a little cold — but they were super apologetic and took care of it right away. Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere.

Friendly local pub. Does decent food. We stayed with a group of 12 for an extensive Sunday lunch. Plenty options accompanied by live jazz.

Friendly welcome from the landlord, good beer, nice food, interesting "nooks and crannies" type of interior, with the modern touches of decor being done relatively sensitively and with a bit of flair and individuality, not just the now very tedious generic modernised pub colour scheme. This was a welcome break on a day's walking along the South Downs Way.

Excellent Sunday roast on Father's Day.

Spoke to Brian, he is incredibly rude and persistently negative. Would not reccomend simply due to his awful manners.

I made a booking at the Smugglers Inne telling them an aproximate time of my arrival, the following is the booking confirmation I received from Agoda: Remarks : NonSmoke, LargeBed, AdditionalNotes:"We will be arriving by car from Newhaven can you please confirm you have parking available. Thanks John", ArrivalTime:"22.00 — 23.00" All special requests are subject to availability upon arrival We arrived at 22.30 and found a closed dwelling, I rang the door bell and knocked on the door and got no reply. I rang the phone number on their website and got an automated message saying "This mail box is full, goodbye" BEWARE, if you may be arriving late you can not depend on anyone being at the inn when you arrive. Best book somewhere else just in case and save your money and sanity trying to find somewhere to sleep at 22.30 in the middle of nowhere.

Really welcoming and lovely food.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. We loved the log fire smell of the pub! Our room was clean and spacious and the Wi-Fi was good and essential in a village with no mobile phone signal!

Wonderful place and decent food. On a nice day you will have a blast enjoying a beverage and a meal out back. The wait wasn’t long even though there were plenty of people. I definitely recommend and would go back again!

After accepting booking the hosts cancelled it because they were overbooked. They suggested alternatives but these are 6 miles away and as we are walking the south downs way they were not help. It has thrown our whole trip into disarray because there is nowhere else available in the area. Really disappointing.

Great pub with good beers and some great live music nights — usually folk or some other non-rock! Love the building, love the atmosphere and the history. Friendly staff, great place.

Lovely village and great location. We didn't have either dinner or breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on the food and found the shower a bit fiddly to get cool enough… However the two staff members we met were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable.

Great selections of local ales, very friendly staff, and great, homemade fish pie. What more could a man want.

A great place for food. I ordered the halloumi burger. A great brioche bun with roasted peppers, fresh salad halloumi, with chilli sauce. Served with a nice. Looking portion of chips.

One thing most notable about this pub is the epic food. And then after that you have the rustic 18th Century look and feel, huge beer garden, and friendly staff. With added accommodation this inn has it all.

Beautiful place, clean rooms with super comfy beds. Smelled fresh for a 14th century place! Goose IPA on tap. Totally recommend!

Great traditional pub in the heart of a great village. Great food if your having a snack or a meal. Staff are very pleasant, helpful and can have a good bit of banter about the local area.

We had an early dinner at Ye Olde Smugglers Inn on the 11th of January 2015. Despite it being quite cozy, the service (a young brown haired girl) and food (miniature starter + burnt fish with chips) was terrible! First of all the waitress we had was awful, she didn't smile or ask if we needed anything or even the basics of 'enjoy your meal' went unsaid. We had to ask for cutlery and tartare sauce. I ordered a starter of king prawns with salad, what arrived were a small mound of teeny tiny shrimps, some bagged lettuce and giant piece of pita. That disappointment cost nearly 7 pounds. Dinner then arrived! Surely the fish and chips would turn our minds around, being so close to the sea and all. Burnt. The fish was dark brown, the batter had been murdered by oil. The chips were average. Frozen peas and more of that bagged salad. P. S. Have to add the young waiter who asked us how our meal was, he was very nice. save your money! avoid!

Great village pub. Nice fireplace to keep you warm in the winter. Great selection of beers and ales. Good food!
