Based on first impressions I wanted to love this hotel but gradually little problems kept showing up that left me with a less than great impression. Firstly, the positives. This place looks fantastic from the nautical theme (theme is probably too strong a word but you get the idea) to the rum bar to the great looking dining area you can tell that a lot of money has been spent on the place. The menu is nicely varied and the bar selection is good. I was in a standard room which was more than big enough and comfy robes as standard is a nice touch. Now onto my issues. Overall everywhere in the hotel just seems to be a little bit too dark and the lighting in my room didn't too much to help in that regard. Little pools of light were created but not enough to work from at a laptop. My main issue with the room was a connecting door into the room next door which didn't stop any noise coming through at all. I could hear every word that the woman next door was saying so lucky she was only talking otherwise things could have got embarrassing! We decided to check out the rum bar after I'd heard very good things and ordered 2 cocktails, both of which were a massive disappointment and not cheap at all. I would honestly say that they were 2 of the worst I've ever had which isn't good for a place making a big deal of their offering. To stay on the safe side we followed this up with 2 straight rums which were ruined by being served with too much ice and kept from us until the drink was extremely watered down. Finally my dining experience. We had a table booked and asked for an extra 10 minutes in the bar as a large party had just entered the restaurant and we wanted to give the kitchen a chance to get sorted. The maître d asked us to come back in 30 minutes and we would be seated immediately. After following his instructions we were left waiting for a table for another 25 minutes, repeatedly being told 5 minutes more and then left ages before having our order taken and being served food. While the food was good it wasn't good enough to make up for that. Overall I'm sure the impression I've been left with is fairly unique but I'm not in any rush to try it again.
