Wow! If you want a treat and want to feel spoilt then the Royal Hotel in Ventnor for lunch will not disappoint. Beautiful day sat outside in the garden restaurant, very nice staff, exquisite lunch, what more could anyone ask for.

Rooms are very clean beds are comfortable. Restaurant food delicious and the staff friendly helpful and happy. Relaxed and calm atmosphere. Cannot fault it excellent customer service ☺️

Treated our parents to a lovely Afternoon Tea here today as a Christmas treat for them. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the atmosphere delightful. Highly recommended 👌

Stayed here the night before, and night of our wedding. Beautiful room with amazing views & was so spacious. Incredible bathroom with great shower and bath. Very comfy bed and 2 great sleeps. Delicious breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

We felt rushed in our meals. It was a bit disappointing really when we booked we weren't told there would be a wedding.

Went for a three course lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, food was well presented and cooked to perfection. Waiter was polite and courteous and overall an excellent afternoon. Will be a returning customer and will recommend the hotel to my friends as value for money.

Came here for afternoon tea as a surprise just before Christmas. Excellent, lovely atmosphere. Sadly closed till after lockdown.

We just stayed at this beautiful hotel and from the moment we arrived we were treated so well. Lovely warm welcome from Reception, the classic room was perfect, spacious, warm and very comfortable bed. The restaurant staff were attentive and friendly, the food and choices were delicious. Highlights for us were the delicious afternoon tea, the swim in the hotel pool (highly recommended), making use of the swings and children's toys, our lovely waiter and the very helpful waitress who served us in the bar. In fact all the staff were excellent. We finished up listening to a bit of piano in the foyer and taking a peek at the view of Ventnor from across the road. Heaven. And a birthday treat for one of our party.

Fabulous surroundings. The staff are friendly and can’t do enough. The food is fantastic. Even just going there for a coffee or a tea is a real pleasure and their home made biscuits are “ to die for”

Amazing place to stay, staff were SO helpful and genuinely caring and kind! They catered for more than our needs and made us feel so welcome. Great with children. Couldn’t fault the place, definitely go back again.

Nice setting. Hotel clean. Staff polite and helpful. I had a Classic Room. Nice size. Hotel needs air conditioning a fan does not help. Room needed a fridge. Bottled water is not pleasant warm, or any other drink for that matter. Afternoon Tea expensive for what you get. Shower over bath not great. Cold water took ages to run cold Whilst I was ok. I wouldn't go back.

Very disappointed. The new owners need to move into 2018, not 1968. Depressing, dowdy decor, mediocre food, breakfast was unhealthy and uninspired. We upgraded to a superior room but it was barely adequate. Poor housekeeping. Parking lot totally inadequate; car got scratches from someone. Prices high and quality low.

Stayed at the royal hotel for my brothers wedding at the botanical garden from 19-22 July. I took my Bernese mountain dog along wth me and the staff were really helpful and tried to make my stay as pleasant as possible. My girlfriend is also coeliac but they had a few different items on the breakfast (gluten free bread) menu and main evening menu, we didn't have any lunch there. One thought I had would have been air conditioning in the rooms, and although it was unusually hot, the rooms would still get quite warm anyway.
Lots of things that made it a great time, which were things like putting a bowl in the room for the dog with bottled water, and cleaning the room quickly while we took him for a walk. Highly recommended though!

Not a modern hotel but it doesn't claim to be. Great attention to detail and they really know how to look after their guests in every department. The jewel in the Royal crown is the impeccable food and exceptional service in the restaurant, absolutely amazing. Keep doing what you're doing.

The Royal Hotel is a fabulous weekend getaway. The hotel is in a beautiful setting and the staff were incredibly helpful. I was only planning on eating in the restaurant for one night however I the food was so outstanding I ate there for both the evenings I was there. I would highly recommend this hotel to all!

High standards. The house speciality Gallybagger cheese soufflé is fantastic… Ask for it even if you don't see it on the menu. It's brilliant. Great to sit outdoors if the weather is good.

Beautiful period hotel. Open since 1832. Amazing views from the beautiful gardens. Excellent food and comfortable quiet rooms. Excellent place to relax and recharge the batteries. Quite expensive but you get what you pay for, it's worth it.

Afternoon tea is heavenly, but must be ordered in advance.

Lovely cream tea. Attended last minute. Choice of sweet or savoury scone. Must pre book day before for the Royal Tea. Additional parking further up the hill at the back of the hotel as car park opposite is small. Good friendly service. Views of the swimming pool from the bar, sea views obstructed by trees but I presume lovely views from the bedrooms upstairs. Worth a visit for lovely scones.

This hotel is lovely. We only went in for cream teas but the rooms look like they have a lovely view out of the windows. The Afternoon Tea was lovely and very enjoyable. You have you prebook for the Royal tea. Prices reasonable but on the expensive side but for a treat it is reasonable. Would recommend a visit. Car parking looks bad but there is a car park further up the road that you may see when going down.

Not impressed. the regular rooms are not very nice, they don't allow dogs or children in the nice rooms. for a hotel that seems to want to attract sophisticated clientele they certainly don't treat them as such.

Not keen on Christmas turkey served in great chunks. Should be served in traditional manner with trimmings. Been dining there for 13 years. Seems to have gone down in food quality. Staff always pleasant.

Really looking forward to our stay as we had heard so many glowing reports from friends. We booked in Saturday 9th December and first impression was good, greeted on arrival and lovely entrance. The receptionist explained we had been upgraded free of charge to a third floor room with a garden view, we thought how lovely, he then explained where the stairs were and I was a little concerned but thought I would give them a go. I have an invisible illness so he would not know I cannot manage stairs well but I am also stubborn and independent so I didn’t say anything. We went up three flights of stairs and I realised I would not manage to go down again for a drink and a wander around to then go back to the room to change for dinner, also on entering our room it was cold. My husband checked the radiators but the one in the bedroom was not working. I phoned down to reception and within a few minutes someone came to check, he explained all the heating was on so could not understand why it wasn’t working and offered us a heater, I asked if there was a room on a lower floor we could change to as the stairs were a problem, oh why don’t you use the lift! why wasn’t we told on booking in! Room was okay, I feel the decor of the room and the corridors is definitely not welcoming, especially the corridors which are all dull grey and definitely seen better days.

We attended for an afternoon tea. The staff were very helpful and friendly, but unfortunately the setting for the tea was not what we were looking for. We were placed at a table for two next to the front door in the reception area. Expecting a more intimate or elegant setting, given the £60 cost, we found that we were surrounded by incoming and outgoing guests stood chatting in the reception, and some guests in walking gear sat thumbing through the local paper next to us. In the end, we decided not to go ahead with the booking, as for the money we expected something a little more special. I understand that the general consensus is that the quality of service and food is excellent here, so this is not a judgement on the staff (who were very understanding) or the food served, rather a reflection on how our expectations were not met.

Went for our Anniversary dinner. Service was excellent as it was when we visited about 15 years ago. The food was not great however. Small portions and very, very salty. There's little ambience or atmosphere in the dining room either. The light was bright and it felt a bit "stiff". Came to nearly 80 quid for the two of us, that's with no alcohol. Will not be rushing back.

This is one of our favourite Hotels. The location is wonderful, the rooms are very comfortable and the food and service are just perfection. The menu is full of enticing choices and the portions are sensible so that a three course dinner doesn't feel overwhelming. Breakfast is also a delight from Full English to Continental and everything in between. You feel cosseted and cared for in a truly lovely way. The staff are exceptionally well trained. We have never had any problems here at all in numerous visits.

Not as good as expected but than again one has unreasonable expectations when it comes to Michelin starred restaurants. Bit I thought everything served was good quality the ambience and service were great. The portions were mediocre at best and overall I think the desserts we tried were slightly disappointing, as well as the soup. The rest was all good and I would recommend the seafood risotto. The fish was also cooked to perfection and the partridge and venison were the highlight of the meal. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend the place if for nothing else than the ambience alone.

We had a wonderful experience here, we came for afternoon tea with our baby. The service was professional and attentive without being all over us. We had a hiccup with our booking but we're made to feel very welcome and accommodated even though the conservatory was fully booked. The sandwiches were divine, we had cheese and chutney, egg and chive, salmon and cream cheese, and ham. The cheddar cheese tasted a little bit like it came from a packet but apart from that we couldn't fault them. We chose Darjeeling and earl grey tea which came with generous helpings of extra hot water. We loved the Darjeeling, however the earl grey tasted more like a breakfast tea as the bergamot flavour was missing. The cakes and sweets were amazing! There was too much to list but our favourites were the fruit pastille, macaroon, ginger cake, cheesecake, eclair and panna cotta. The scones were light and fluffy with jam that had whole strawberries in it. The cream was exceedingly light, thin and almost buttery in consistency. Delicious! We had a comfy sofa to sit in, listening to the pouring rain outside with background piano music. It was elegant and relaxing. Luckily our baby was asleep for most of the meal so we could fully enjoy it. We stayed for two hours and would definitely come back, it was a real treat. I'm keen to try The Cabin spa, it sounds magical!

Lovely sunny gardens to sit in and enjoy quiet cup of coffee or meal. Staff friendly and helpful; facilities are fantastic.

We had a dine and stay price is Wight deal. The taster menu looked so tempting that we upgraded + the wine selection it was fabulous would highly recommend it as a special treat. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming lovely big comfortable bed and good food again at breakfast.

Very overpriced. As guests we were told that we had to book the restaurant for dinner which was ok until it was fully booked most nights, the one night we got in we were asked to go back to the bar as there were no tables even though there were empty tables and we had booked. EVERY DAY for breakfast we were told to wait for 4 to 5 mins while they checked if we were on the list. For the price of the stay its definitely not worth it.

Lovely food at dinner. Good breakfast. Service generally good although email response a little slow. Unfortunately the bedroom was too hot, with windows open and there is no air con. Double bed in deluxe room was two singles zipped together with noticeable gap. Not the best sleep, at £200+ a night you'd expect better.

Posh place. Have good ambiance. Private parking. It have private hill top which got lovely view toward sea. Love it.

I love this place! Always have a great meal, whether in the resturant or the conservatory. My wife and I got married here and the whole day was fabulous! I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

The Royal Hotel was an exquisite place to host a wedding. The service was top notch, not a detail overlooked. The staff were most helpful and the food was spectacular. All food came our hot and fresh, and drink glasses were never empty. The events team did all they could to accommodate our particular requests (i. E. To include maple syrup in the menu). The rooms were very clean and well kept. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order. I would host an event here again.

Lovely stay at the royal. Stayed in room 33 overlooking garden. Lovely views to sea. Staff friendly accommodating and helpful making my stay comfortable and relaxing. I stayed with my small dog who was allowed to stay and eat with me in a designated area — thank you. We will return.

Have just enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the conservatory at The Royal Hotel. The set menu was far better than expected — the sea bream and linguine starter to die for — and at a very reasonable price. We have eaten at the Royal several times and each time has been a memorable experience. The staff are professional and friendly, the food and wine excellent and no doubt we shall be returning time and time again.

Very expensive cream tea for what you get. I've had cream tea before and what arrived wasn't quite what I expected. The sandwiches were great don't get me wrong but the scones were dry and heavy. There were no small cakes just big lumps of cake which we ended up cutting into bits to share around. Just found it weird to have a cupcake and the Victoria sandwich slice was horrible. But each to there own and the service was 5 star.

Been going here since I was a wee lad (now 23). Enjoy going back year after year. Service is great, food is great, views are spectacular and the rooms are kept to the highest standards.

I have enjoyed 5 visits to The Royal in the last 3 years. I had visited the Island a few years ago when my children were small. We passed through Ventnor, which had a beautiful bay and I vowed that I would return to enjoy a more relaxed trip once the children had grown up. In February 2010 I discovered The Royal. I felt good as soon as I walked through the door. The welcome was warm, the decor tasteful, the room was beautiful, clean and luxurious and the food delicious. I have returned several times since because I dare not break the spell! My most recent visit was April 2013 and I was amazed that many members of staff from my first visit were still there and they also remembered me. I'm returning with my grown up children at the end of July and can't wait. I know that The Royal won't disappoint and I always return home revived and a little spoilt. I would recommend you choose a room with views to the front if at all possible.

Me and my partner have just spent an idyllic couple of hours at The Royal and found it hard to tear ourselves away! My Partner and I decided to treat ourselves to the Royal set menu after being recommended by his parents and have to say it more than exceeded our expectations. All the food and great selection of wine not only looked stunning but tasted delicious, the staff were very professional but also very friendly and the gardens and terrace were beautiful. Sheer indulgence! Having spent the evening in the beautifully decorated dining room, I felt like royalty! out side surrounded by tropical plants, for a night cap, the staff were still very attentive, we've returned home feeling like we've just come back from a holiday. Very special will definitely return again soon.

We stayed at the Royal with our three children last year and were blown away by the experience. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, we had a family room with wonderful sea views, it was bliss. The children loved the pool and gardens and we all felt utterly spoilt whilst there. The food is outstanding and the choice for the younger ones was amazing, serving an early meal for them and having a great baby monitor system meant we could have lovely "grown up" evening to ourselves. Ventnor is a real hidden gem, we will absolutely we going back and The Royal is THE ONLY place I would stay — a great find.

We got married at the Royal last year and I could not recommend it enough. Despite us filling every room plus the restaurant filled to capacity over two nights the staff remained flexible and effective both in the build up and throughout the weekend. The individually decorated sea view rooms were very much appreciated by our closest family some who had traveled many miles for the wedding. The wedding was just what we wanted with all our closest family and friends in one space for the whole weekend able to relax in the luxury of the hotel and despite it being November we even got a sunny beach walk before the goodbye Sunday lunch. All in all a hotel well worth the trip over the Solent for a weekend get away, family gathering or an exquisite afternoon tea! We will be back there for many anniversaries I am sure.
