We spent 3 nights at the Windmill in August and could not fault a thing! Ideal spot to use as a fabulous base whilst exploring London. The overall vibe in this pub is amazing. Thank you x.

Paid a visit for the first time, well worth the wait, friendly, good service, knockout venue, great atmosphere and this was a lunchtime, what a find, will certainly be going back and soon.

Great food, lovely decor very comfortable.

This was our first visit to this little gem of a hotel. The beds were so comfortable, it was spotlessly clean, the food was amazing and the rooms are beautiful and very quiet. We have just had a two night stay to celebrate both my own and my sons birthday, we tried to book a third night but the hotel is full. It’s a fabulous find for us with our sons living so close. Looking forward to our next visit. X.

Enjoyed my time there, once I found it. Now it seems so simple to find, so will return. Very friendly, polite staff and service.

A lovely park. There is so much to do. Lots to see. Beautiful. Lots of activities available. Lots of different sports.

Lovely lunch, delicious roast portions too large for me to finish, however we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was heavenly. No request was a problem for the staff… they were all great! Thank you so much.

I checked in around 1820 hours went to my room and once settled went to bar to have dinner. The meal I ordered was mediocre and the fries were warm not hot and the burger was ok but nothing to write home about. The premises in general looks tired in places and requires a coat of paint. So about 2030 hours I went to my room to find that there is no running cold water. I called reception to discover that this problem was known about when I checked in. So no flushing toilets, drinking water or likely no shower in the morning. I am staying on business and have a long day ahead tomorrow so not best pleased. Had I been advised prior to check in I could have made alternative arrangements. I was told I could have a bucket to throw water down the toilet and if I went to the bar I could get some bottled water. Having stayed in various hotels the main thing that annoys me is the complete lack of communication and the laid back service to the issue. Needless to say I won’t be staying again and cannot speak to management until the morning.

Great pub, good service, amazing pub dog (Max). Nice events like whiskey tastings and live music. Great outdoor space and a burger shaq with good burgers and amazing curly fries, besides the good pub menu inside.

I was given a dish with an hair in it so I asked the waitress to take it back. She brought me another dish so fast that to be honest I think was the same with just the hair removed. There were no apologies and when the waitress came back she just dropped the dish on front of me, very rude. Nothing was done to save my experience (a discount and extra glass of wine etc) with the place. I used to love the place but honestly a hair in the dish is gross…

We stayed at the Windmill for four nights starting on August 3. This is not a conventional lodging review because our experience was not conventional. We were from way out of town (Portland OR, USA). During our visit the Windmill became our home base, one that we looked forward to returning to after a hectic day exploring London. Our room was quite nice, spacious with a stand-alone bathtub in addition to shower. The windows looked out over Clapham Common, and also the Windmill pub. Unlike some bars, the pub had no loud music (or any music) and we went to sleep easily with the cheerful voices of patrons providing a kind of waterfall in the background. The staff (hotel, restaurant, pub) were not necessarily the most professional, but they were unfailingly cheerful, kind and accommodating. At night they were a pleasant contrast to the understandably somewhat hardened attitudes of the tourist-herders of Central London. We breakfasted four times and dined twice in the restaurant, and were quite happy with the food. Breakfast especially had lovely juices, jams, good coffee. The 8 minute walk from the Tube stop to the Windmill was on the one hand a bit of a pain in the butt, but on the other allowed us to appreciate the Common, a vast flat park with cricket matches, people walking their dogs, sunbathers, neighbors with kids chatting, etc. By the end we felt almost part of the neighborhood. We are very glad we stayed at the Windmill.

Beautiful place. Great location. Room designed great. Espresso machine and Sky full bundle included. Comfortable bed. Tasty breakfast. Friendly and helpfull staff Will definitely come back.

We used the Windmill Pub for my mother’s wake. I can honestly say that it was the best decision we made, as not only was the service fantastic but also the food was great. The staff attitude was excellent even though the pub was very busy their service was excellent. They even topped up the food if they saw it diminishing. Wow! Highly recommend well done.

My very picky mother was happy with the reservation here. It's an old building, so the aesthetic is cosy and gently lit, rather than cuttting-edge modern. That extends to some of the fittings — in the room there was an old-style British fitting for the light which flickered if it was touched. But given that it's a traditional setting in a green space in busy London, with a fantastic pub attached that is even better in the sunshine, it's a good choice for a stay.

Great choice of refurbished rooms. The service stll feels Personal. Good beer selection, nice pub & well presented breakfast/restaurant option.

Typical English atnosfera and great food!

Nice decor, great food, it's always been a bit pricey but worth it for a pint in the sun on the common. However, when I was there Friday (20 April '18) they had the gumtion to charge £16+ for a pint, soft drink and a small wine spritz… won't do that again.

The hotel is really amazing. Very cute, nice, fully equipped rooms. Staff at the reception ware very friendly. Bed was very comfortable and room very quiet. Pub restaurant food was just amazing. However, breakfast was a bit disappointing. Poor selection of cheese and meat. Staff was very unfriendly and looked annoyed just for being there… it ruins the entire perfect feeling of the hotel.

Five of us went for dinner, this was a social catch up with friends who had been working abroad. We all ordered mains and drinks. The team were really kind and patient when a couple of people were late. We did get slightly hurried at the end of the meal as they were packing down the restaurant area. Luckily there was space in the bar area and we moved over for the last hour of our evening. About £25 a head for a main and 1/2 bottle of wine. Would definitely go back, especially for wanting a chilled weekend venue.

Horrible. Ordered calf liver main course. Past off pigs liver as calfs liver. So badly cooked, so tough, a knife would not cut it. When pointed out, the waiting staff said it was calf, when liver was obviously not. 3.5cm to 4cm tall. No apology. Be very careful what you order. Personally would give it a miss, unless totally desperate.

Great Staff can’t compensate for rubbish food. We went for lunch on a Thursday and it was very quiet. The food was very poor. Triple cooked chips are nothing of the sort. They are frozen fried once and not good at that. You can tell a lot about a place by how they do the simple things. On the plus side the staff are super friendly and helpful. If you are gluten free they have a very helpful allergen card that tells you that you can eat only four options.

One of the best pubs I've been to. It's huge. It's cosy. It's lovely. It has a dining room with a sunroof. The food is nice and they have my favorite. Guinness. You can bring your dog inside which is nice. You can sit outside. There is a playground for kids in the back which is great for families. Service is also excellent. Really enjoyed it here. Highly recommend.

Great beer in a nice setting looking partly over the common. Very difficult to get a table without booking. The bar area is pretty small but there is a large outside area, brilliant for the summer. The food is good but nothing spectacular.

Nice pub, great in the summer on the edge of common. They do live music here sometimes. Always pretty busy on the weekends and the food is pretty good too. Pretty good selection on beers. Try the sausage rolls at the bar.

I stayed at The Windmill in January and it was a fabulous experience. My room was stunning and so well designed — everything had been thought of, from the coffee machine and lovely tea selection to the universal phone charger and of course the decadent bath tub right there in the bedroom. If only I'd had someone to share it with! The ensuite was similarly well thought out and the bed was super comfy. It was a wonderful place to retreat to after a busy day seeing the sights of London. The food in the restaurant was great and I highly recommend the hotel breakfast with a huge choice of hot meals, pastries, continental style cold meat and cheese, and cereal. Delicious. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Windmill to anyone visiting London, whether for business or leisure.

Great location, nicely presented. Unfortunately the service and food is very average at best (not what you'd expect for the price also). Been at least ten times and there's almost always an issue. The owner needs to train the weekend staff. Ordered two coffees, took them almost 30min! Not the first time also. Up your game could be so much better.

A charming pub with a lot of younger people (in their mid twenties to thirties) on a Saturday night. Staff were friendly and the toilets were clean. Could have done with some music to add to the ambience but other than that a nice place to go to start your night.

Poor service, the waitresses were rude, not welcoming, and not very gentle with the food and drinks (I got food poured over my shirt). And the food was not even very good and not at all well presented in the plate. It's been a while we noticed that the quality of food and service has decreased at the Windmill, but this time it really is the last time for us at this restaurant.

The pub has a decent selection of beers. The chips were cold and veggie burger just average. The sausage and mash was good. We waited over 40 minutes for our pudding. It still isn't here so I can not tell you if it is worth the wait. I have my doubts. Just came, too sweet for my tastes, unfortunately.

Great Sunday roast! Based right next to the park with great interiors and beer/wine selection. Can't book on a Sunday so early walk-ins are best for larger groups.

Disappointed. Saturday. I drove 90 minutes to get to this place which someone recommend as brunch worthy. My chicken with a savoury waffle was confused with the desert option. The staff lack basic table waiting skills, perhaps a morning being trained. A simple drinks order came by installments. Items ordered on a tablet were missed when our food came along. A huge contrast to the experience I enjoyed at the Bell Inn in Outwood (Surrey) 18hrs ago. So I'm going to avoid this place in future because it's just a trap exploiting its enviable location or they cannot be bothered to provide a decent dining experience. The only person who enjoyed her meal appears to be my daughter but you can't really call the kids option your star dish and I don't know if she was just really hungry.

Really nice pub. Had a nice Sunday roast on the terrace. A bit pricy and I had hoped some kind of heating was provided. Other than that, good food and good beers!

Its a very good value for money. The rooms are well decorated and the bed and shower are good! We stayed there a few times and as always great! The food of the pub attached to the hotel is great also!

Great place to chill, have a drink and dinner! Lovely place to stay! My mum and dad stay there when come to see me. They love it.

There is such a good atmosphere always. Food and service is top notch. And of course, a stone's throw from the common. Highly recommended.

Fantastic hotel, rooms clean, comfy and amazing. Food was fantastic I had one of the best pies iv ever eaten. Breakfast was fantastic too.

For a great big pub with boutique accommodation, this place still has a lot of character. Big outdoor drinking space includes a burger shack and cosy shepherd's hut, perfect for winter. Indoors is pretty dark but its myriad of rooms means you're likely to find the decor that suits your mood. Dog friendly too (landlord has a gentle giant dog, Max)

Great food options. Check all the available menus to see it all. Several beers, one worth drinking in my opinion. Might give five stars if two of our meals didn't arrive fifteen minutes after the other three.

Good solid Young's pub on the common with ample seating in and out. A bit pricey for what it is drinks wise, but that's the London factor. Good value food. Yummy burgers and chilly fries from the burger shack!

Really spacious and interesting architecture. The inside feels old but modern at the same time. Has a restaurant area that looked nice. It was a warm evening so we drank outside. Crowd seemed friendly. Bouncers seemed chilled which is always nice. Bar staff were really friendly too. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Here now for lunch to celebrate mums birthday. Found the waitress rude and unhelpful when we requested a table in the light dining room area. You would think we were being unreasonable. Food took ages to come. In fact a diner on the table behind us had to leave as he was told his food would be out in time and it wasn't. After plates were cleared we waited ages for dessert menu which we asked for in the end. Our table was sticky and the cob webs hung of the lights. It was not busy so no excuse. Stropy rude staff and over priced for what it is.

Lovely pub, with nice decor. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. The Sunday Roast was good, the pub quiz was fun, but the service was ok.

Perfect location. Lovely service. Nice food. Cold drinks. With a nice weather you won't fine a better place!

Decent hotel on the Common. Spacious rooms, ginormous bathrooms (separate bath and shower in ours! ), comfy bed, all very clean. Breakfast was nice, excellent cooked offerings and the usual continental fare. Wouldn't really recommend it as a pub, mind. Uninspiring beer choices.

The food size vs price is absolutely outrageous. £13.25 for the same size that you would find in Mc Donalds. Obviously the quality was better than Mc Donalds but I can think of a few wetherspoons that beat it with unparalleled ease. To make the experience worse I had to wait for 25 minutes, you would imagine that being given a half portion the food might arrive a bit quicker; don't be fooled. The interior is very nice which is the only reason I am willing to give this even one star (bar the fact you can't put a zero rating! ) I won't be coming here again. Absolute crap.

Have just returned from 3 day easter break in The Windmill Clapham. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, and the double room we occupied was extremely clean comfortable and very modern, we also had a view over the common. WELL DONE! We will not hesitate to recommend the hotel to family and friends, and will most certainly return ourselves. from two very happy guests from Belfast.

No character whatsoever. Just a big building, painted to look like one of the smaller, trendier pubs in the area. And really bright lights to highlight the bad decor. Go somewhere else, seriously. (nothing wrong with the staff or drinks, to be fair, just… Nothing right with the place)

The place and the food are nice but the night was spoilt by a rude waiter called Dan who forgot to add to the order a meal we ordered and failed to recognise that in an extremely rude manners. The place is nice though, just try to avoid this waiter.

Lovely location, beautiful decor and atmosphere. The service in the restaurant was slow even though it was quiet. Drinks came after the starter and our waiters understanding of English made ordering difficult. He also forgot our drinks. All of the food was very good but pricey. My daughter dines here regularly and said the bad service was unusual. There are bouncers at the door as this is a young busy pub. Unfortunately the smokers sit outside by the entrance where there are heat lamps. You therefore have to walk through a curtain if smoke to get in and out. I left something in the car and my four trips ensured that my hair and clothes stunk of cigarettes. Definetly at pub aimed at the younger clientele. It is large, edgy and usually buzzing.

We stayed for two nights. The room was of a good size and the Decor was delightful. The room was cleaned beautifully and in all the room and cleanliness were first class. The pub is brilliant with a great atmosphere and it is nice to see a "dog-friendly" pub. Free biscuits are supplied for the dogs as well as iced water on tap for them when they also need a drink! The bar food was excellent but when you venture into the restaurant this is when the standard drops. On both days breakfast was not up to standard. We were warned that the plates were hot but it is such a pity that the food was only tepid at best. Perhaps we should have left it on the plate longer so that it heated up? When we had lunch I ordered the Turkey and I assumed it would have been carved from the bone but t was served up in two circular pieces. I have never seen a circular turkey so I can only assume that it was processed or something similar At Christmas time surely it is not too much to expect fresh turkey? The location is great and there are lots of good places to eat within a 5 minute walk so do not let the restaurant put you off staying in a very charming and delightful hotel.

This was our third visit to the Windmill and may not stay again. Lovely hotel, good atmosphere and the reception staff were great. Room very nice, clean, but not sold on the idea of a bath in the bedroom! But nice room, good views and comfy bed. However, we were very disappointed with the breakfast. After having been before we were expecting a good breakfast. Wrong. Plenty of choice as long as you avoid the cooked full english, which my husband had. I had just eggs and bacon. No prob with eggs but the rest was not good. Overcooked sausages, bacon almost chargrilled to death and just not good. So very disappointed, which is a shame as we like the pub. Hope the chef can take this on board as we will have to re think where we stay next time. One of the waiting staff was very surly too, not welcoming at all first thing in the morning, would have been nice to see a smile.

I stayed at the Windmill with my boyfriend as a little weekend break away. Our room was ready before the 2PM check in time which was a great convenience for us! The room was flawless, very lovely and we had an amazing view of the common! The breakfast was gorgeous! The staff were wonderful, very helpful and cheerful as they served us breakfast. It's lovely to see people take pride in their job no matter what time of the day/night it is. I would definitely stay again! Maybe my lovely review will result in a discount on my next stay ;)

Paid a visit to the burger bar they got going outside, stupidly steep prices, two burgers with some silly portion of twirly fries, £22, and if you want a coke can with your meal £2.85 each, nearly £6 for two bog standard can of cokes. Then to nail it both burgers where raw in the middle, like looking at a pack of mince, lacking flavor, salt, the bacon was just streaky fat and it was cold. Been there, done it, never again.

Quiet. Dont do meny ciders Only one on the pump. Around my end they is happy hour 2 pound a pint haha why ent they none of that in London : (.

I usually don't write reviews but wow, this was so bad I had to. Generally a very nice looking place busy etc etc and the staff seemed to make an effort to get us a table, but from then it went downwards very very quickly. We sat down and our table was still cluttered from the people before us, not too bad but once we asked someone if they could clear the table please have the stuff was taken and the rest was left so we cleared ourselves after about 10 minutes. But then came the food! The bun for the burger I had ordered was substituted for some other bread because they ran out of the bread I asked for (which was on the menu) but not only that it was also stone cold and looked as if it had been sitting in a fridge for a week or so. The nice manager got me my money back and and offered me a replacement burger so I thought lets try it again, so the new burger all of a sudden came with the bread I had ordered in the first place, but this time it was a completely different burger with peanut sauce etc etc, well I tried it anyways (one bite) and god can I say that was the most disgusting Burger I have ever tried. Any kebab shop makes a better burger. Could even swallow that bite. Grrrr So that was my food as for the rest of the table their food was also cold and dry and you name it. I don't know what went wrong there but it was simply bad. Sorry guys p. S. The chips were good, cold but good.

You'll inevitably end up here after football on the common. A huge pub, right within the bounds of the park, with a reasonable range of chain beers and so-so pub food. Not much reason to come from further afield, though.

I went to The Windmill on the 18th December for a Christmas meal with friends that was booked in advance. The price of the meal for what we got was not comparable! It was over priced for what it was! We ordered a couple of bottles of wine to the table which was forgotten about. We then had to ask for our deserts as they did not come out 40 mins after our mains. The staff told us that they had a big table of people who ordered food which is why ours was late. Don't take our booking and deposit if you don't have the staff to be able to accommodate. I have been to the windmill many times and had mainly great food and service however it would appear that standard has slipped over Xmas and the prices hiked up.

Booked our Company Christmas Party here, 3 course meal with drinks reception — 32 people in total — the service, staff, food and venue all very good! Would recommend to anyone.

Had a lovely stay at the Hotel. Rooms were newly refurbished, cleanliness was up to standard, location was good for restaurants and bars of Clapham lovely to retreat to the peaceful green surrounded Hotel. I have stayed at many hotels around the globe. Was let down when being checked out by the spectacled bald asian gentleman on reception and a little taken aback when he couldn't be bothered to come from around his desk and help us with our cases, but then when my driver came in to get me he asked him to help with our cases! Apart from that lazy sod I would definitely recommend this Hotel to my colleagues in the hospitality industry. Thumbs up.

This review is on behalf of a friend of mine. She inquired about holding a wake at this and I quote "friendly local bub", for the passing of her mum on the 8th July 2014 to be held on 18th July 2014 and was told she could have the blue room and food for a set price (witch was for a ridiculous amount). After negotiating a final price she went to confirm with family members. 2 hours later she called them back to confirm payment and was told quite rudely that she couldn't have any of it. I think this was quite heartless of then and left my friend feeling overwhelmed and panicked at where else she could go after this experience. I will be complaining to youngs also about this matter. NOTE TO YOU WINDMILL! change you slogan "at heart we're friendly local pub". You are not this at all.

A good pub on the common that is brilliant in the summer months for a drink. Food is decent, though the staff seemed pretty disorganised and it took a while for our food to arrive plus a couple of items didn't make it to the table. Also being given a squishy plastic cup whilst drinking inside is a bit of a no no in my book. But all in all this place is worth a visit when the sun is shining and they would get an extra star if the service was a little snappier and the staff a bit more attentive to diners' needs.

Well after writing 2 emails with no response from windmill ill write a review here instead. We visited the restaurant as a group of 6 from an initial booking of 3 increased over the phone. We were made to wait an hour, for the table as they had told us a spot for 3 was allocated — not 6. This was clearly a lie as we all saw the booking sheet with my name and the number 6 next to it. After getting food, the waitress brought out the wrong dish for the vegetarian and said "they prob ran out of what you wanted and gave you this instead. " when we asked her to check before deciding what my friend would eat, she came back with the right dish — no apology. Would never recommend this restaurant. Bad customer service, not great food, disappointing they are not interested in keeping locals.
