I was quite surprised at how great the staff was with the check-in process. They were showed you to your room, and explained everything along the way. The hostel rooms and bathrooms were all very clean. The pub downstairs was just icing on the cake. Great atmosphere and great beers on tap.

Too much noise as hostel is located exactly opposite to Waterloo railway station. Atleast 1 train pass every minute from here making it very difficult to sleep overnight. Also many hostel beds dont have electricity plug stock to charge mobile phones. Hostel staff is nice and always ready to help.

Only ever been in the bar, but great staff, other staff behind the bar would help with your drinks order when not busy. nice people lots of travellers coming to London for a good time. Prices for drinks must be cheapest in the area. NHS discount too! Looks very different inside then what you would expect from the outside. A cool place sofas, tables outside.

First time staying here and had a great experience. Everything you need for an enjoyable stay in the centre of London. Really friendly staff and everything was clean. Breakfast was also pretty awesome. I'll be back next time im in London.

The location was great. Within walking distance of Westminster and a lot of other places. I loved the bar and the staff too. But it was right underneath a railway line, and I kid you not the trains never stopped 24 HOURS A DAY. They were loud and obnoxious. You need to be a hard sleeper to stay there.

Beds and rooms were nice. Shower was okay but the toilets were really nasty. I loved the bar on the first floor and it was great to have a quick breakfast before we went out. Overall the experience was great except for the toilets which are not included in the en suite if you book that type of room.

I was at a lose end waiting for an appointment that I was over an hour early for so was looking for somewhere to have a cold soft drink and it was minutes from where I had to be and looked friendly and I was right. Being a single woman witb an injury I was made welcome and it was a peaceful relaxing environment.

Came in to grab a beer before going to dinner. Was a friendly atmosphere with plenty of comfortable seating. Wasn't overcrowded, and we got prompt and polite service from the bartenders. Reasonable prices. We didn't stay too long, but enjoyed our time there.

This hostel, is one of the best hostels I have ever tried to reserve with. They are amazingly responsive by email and are eager to accommodate. I strongly suggest booking directly with this hostile. As you are not going to get the incredible customer service with booking sites. Especially if you have unique needs such as checking in early at a cost. These guys are great. I was greeted at 7 this morning by an extremely friendly staff member who got us checked in and less than 10 minutes, gave us locks for a 5lb deposit and even offered to carry my friends bag up four flights of stairs. So with that said, this hostel does not have an elevator/lift whatever you would like to call it; it does not exist in this building! If you are a rail lover this building is literally right on the corner of the national rail tracks leading into Waterloo Station! For Rail Enthusiast like me, that was just an amazing thing to wake up to! I can train watch all day. Love it!

Ideal for a low low budget trip to London because of the price and the perfect location. It is a hostel so don't expect any hotel-like comfort. For that price everything seemed OK to me, trains didn't bother us much because we were dead tired every night by the time we arrived.

Best hostel EVER! cookies, oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly, toast, tea, hot chocolate, cereal, milk all offered at breakfast for free. The downstairs is a great social spot and is very quaint and adorable! Clean, friendly, well-kept, and in a prime location!

Good atmosphere. Breakfast included, cereal fruits, infusions, jam, good showers, the kitchen a little small, and discounts in the bar below.

Although my friends and I were staying in their hostel we were not allowed to enter their bar because they supposedly had staff meeting. Very small kitchen and zero spaces in common. I would think again to stay there again.

Great place to meet people and share information. Clean and well organised. But too few shower cubicles. Recommended to wake by 0630 to avoid queuing.

This is only a review for the pub, rather than the hostel as I've never stayed there. The pub has a great range of drinks, friendly staff and it's all at a reasonable price. It can get very busy but that's obviously the nature of the best, what with it being a hostel as well as a pub.

Convenient location to stay, super close to the 'official' London Eye, Waterloo station and right on the corner of Lower Marsh, where you get to get a decent coffee at four corners across the street; in addition to the great food from food market. Showers maybe uncomfortable yet tolerable, female toilets are separate on the first floor. Discount for drinks, breakfast ok, kitchen is clean but not that impressive. Spacious room inside, clean floor. Stayed a couple of days when I first visited London.

Proper old-school South London boozer. Not too many pubs like this around any more. Worth a visit for the authentic atmosphere, and great cocktails/shots.

If you want a place that is organized and will take care of you in the night, while not having any phone service, this is not the place for you. As cheap as this hostel is, you need to be aware that it is only worth its price. When I was having issues connecting to the wireless to call my mom, to assure her of my safety, the Wi-Fi that is supposed to provide for 30 plus people and it failed to do so even for just 5 of us. I rang the bell for the night attendant, which was not labeled as an emergency button, he greeted me with anger because the button was supposed to be for emergencies. Sorry if calling my mom wasn’t a big enough emergency for you. On top of that, I’m pretty sure he was asleep. Earlier that day, the heating for the showers broke down and quite a few of us were in ice cold water, WITHOUT NOTICE. Not only did the staff know, but the manager also knew and did not provide warning postings on our doors nor were we told of the alternative if we were desperate, though there were mad an alternative. Worst experience of traveling and to give you perspective of my travel experiences, I have been homeless, couch hopping, work staying, and have been to cheaper yet more prestigious hostels like the steel house in Copenhagen. If you are staying here for one night, great. If you’re staying for longer, screw it.

The place was cheap and I found out why on my first night but I don't hold that against them. Its perfectly located directly adjacent and five minutes walk to Waterloo Station. The neighborhood, Waterloo, is young and hip and vibrant. There's lots of easy access to transportation and good food in all directions and you're no more than 20 mins by train or bus from where you want to be. The downside is the railyard behind the building where the screech of steel wheels on steel rails can be heard piercing the air day and night. I'd stay here again but I came to my bed exhausted from a day's travels and I could sleep through a war — — results may vary.

I've always dreamed about going to London, so one day I've decided that it is time to make my dream come true! While searching for a place to stay, I came across "The Walrus Bar & Hostel" and I instantly fell in love. Their homepage was my best friend while preparing for the trip with useful and easily understandable maps and directions to the hostel. This was my first trip on my very own, to a city I've never been before, staying in a room with people I don't know — and I never have enjoyed myself more.
The hostel is located in the heart of London — but with the given earplugs I was able to sleep like a baby. You can actually see a part of London Eye out of the kitchen window. Everything was clean, whether it was the shower/toilet, the bedsheets or the given towel. The breakfast served downstairs was more than enough.
The bar was always packed — not only with hostellers, but also with Londoners, who enjoyed their after-work beer — because of the very reasonable prices.
The staff is absolutely lovely. It felt like I’ve known them for way longer, they were always there to help or just to have a nice chat with. If I could give you a 10/10, I'd give you 12. Thank you guys for an amazing first time and I will definitely come back very soon. X.

The hostel is quite old but the rooms are comfortable. Small negative point on the bathrooms which are of an inconstant cleanliness and on the kitchen quite small which allows to eat only four people. On the other hand its huge advantage is its location: 5 minutes from Big Ben and 10 minutes from Trafalgar Square!

Quite a small pub but has a lovely cocktail menu and sells many beers from around the world I have never stayed in the hostel But it seems busy It also doesn't sell hot food but it's located next to a fair amount of food places.

Great location with friendly people. Don't let parties stay together in same bunk in shared rooms like other hostels. Have decent toilet and shower facilities on each floor.

Rooms are clean, staff is attentive. Showers and bathrooms always clean, and the kitchen is well stocked. I recommend ear plugs as there's a train going by every few minutes, late into the night and early mornings. Overall a great place, and also very central.

Nice place to stay for a night or two. You will sleep in a large room with a bunch of other guests. The ground floor is a nice bar, with good drinks. Other accommodations such as bathrooms and showers were nice, but nothing amazing.

Fantastic bar, a favourite of mine and my group of friends. I can't comment on the hostel, as I'm a Londoner, but it's worth going just for the decently priced (for London anyway) drinks. Cocktail selection is great, staff is friendly and know their stuff, music is top notch, atmosphere is cool, and weekday happy hours make it that much more worth it! No food, but you can bring your own.

I landed in London on May 10th from the States with no plans, no hostel booked, and planning to stay one day. I got in a taxi and asked to be dropped off at Big Ben and from there I would find a place to sleep. Walking around, I randomly walked by the Walrus. I walked in a little nervous due to the fact this was my first hostel experience. Right away the place felt welcoming. The first person I talked to was George and he was beyond friendly. He even took out a map and circled places where I need to go. My bed wasn't ready at the time but he offered to lock up my backpack so that I could walk around. When my bed was ready, again a little nervous, I opened the door and the beds and rooms were clean and I can say I had the best sleep. After my one day I feel in love with this hostel with the friendliest staff to the rooms, and even free breakfast and towels. This hostel will make you feel like you are family and everyday they will be smiling and happy to see everyone. If anyone was going to London, I would recommended The Walrus.

Clean rooms! Nice staff! Really close to the tube so it's a great location. And it's just a 7 minute walk to the London eye. But there is no elavator and there's lots of stairs in the hostel.

Excellent bar, been there a few times with friends to watch rugby games or to celebrate various occasions. I've booked tables every time and the staff has always been very helpful. Thanks for making my last few weeks in London awesome!

Pros: Really clean, friendly, helpful staff, cheap, and basic, but good breakfast. Great bar! Cons: Wifi didn't always work, and the shower on my floor broke after the third day.

Small bar but very popular. Particularly on a sunny afternoon. Non-suited working crowd mainly. Well priced drinks (for London), friendly staff.

Good breakfast but hot water in some shower room is not working well. Please take note this is close to RAILWAY which is overground and noisy. Not recommended for light sleeper.

Don't expect luxuries but it's exactly what you expect to find in such a place. Perfect location and good deal with the staff.

The staff is very nice and ready to help you. The place is kept clean and the bed are quite comfortable. There are a couple of problems, tough. There are few bathrooms and sometimes you have to wait a bit to get hit water in the showers. The kitchen is well equipped but a bit small. It's really close to railway, it's a little noisy. Anyhow the total balance is absolutely positive, the position is perfect and I had a great time there!

I stayed in the hostel for three nights. The building I charming, rooms are a clean and despite the train I managed to sleep decently. Location very handy. Friendly staff. Decent buffet in the morning, nothing handmade. No hangers in the room to hang your coats, and the power sockets not always are closed to the bed. It would take a little effort to improve the overall experience, especially with the toilets and the showers. All the taps I put my hands on were half broken, with leaks and the shower head water didn't want to stay in place, keeping on falling. No heating whatsoever. No bins for paper towels and a generally poor looking environment. Kitchen was handy but poorly equipped, sign with "free coffee and tee" but no actual tee was there. Few pans but no decent cooking tools. Also cold room, which is a shame since it could be a nice alternative meeting point for hostel's guests. No markers or labels to to use to put your name on the food as requested. I would keep the music in the bar lower, so people could actually interact more.

Youth hostel is very simple. Service efficient and nice. Only problem, the train station nearby, the very small kitchen, the lack of a common room (except the bar, which is useful in the morning, during the day, but at night it is noisy). The rooms are not very large.

They have a really small Kitchen to warm food. They serve a good breakfest. They do not have eletric plugs for all beds. They do not have hair dryer.

Great staff, but basically it's a house with a big room where they put 22 people. Not enought plugs for everyone and not enought space in the kitchen and shower. Good points are the location and free breakfast.

Great, funky, hostel and with friendly staff. Ladies room was a bit cold and the room aswell sometimes. I would also add night lamps in the rooms. Hostel was also at great location near London Eye and Big Ben and tube connection to the centrum was really near. I would like to visit again.

Fantastic to be at, beautiful old pub and very relaxed atmosphere. Staff are friendly and you're outside of the busy tourist zone whole Waterloo station lies directly next to this gem.

Very friendly staff and bar food. Hostel is stick to Waterloo station (pro & con also) so you can hear train running when you are on bed too.

Proper English pub hidden away behind (and almost under) Waterloo station. With comfy sofas and chilled out decor, it wouldn't look out of place in Camden or Kentish Town.

The staff is very friendly. The Bar/Hostel is very well located. The rooms are OK, unfortunately mine only had a shower. Particularly liked for a Hostel gave me the free towel and the possibility of the Luggage store in a safe place. Furthermore, there are power adapters and locks for the lockers for a Deposit.

The best hostel experience and right in the middle of all the tourist spots. The bar was a great way to meet new travellers and locals. Its safe yet laid back. The staff were entertaining. I will never forget this place.

For the price (~23 pounds per night), this place was great. A standard youth hostel. They have free towels, which is awesome. I stayed in a 6 bed room with its own shower. The sheets were clean and the bed was sunken but otherwise comfy. One of the guys snored, but that's not the hostel's fault. Bring earplugs and sandals for the shower and it should be no problem. Great location. Nice staff. Didn't eat the breakfast. I heard it was just toast and cereal.

Become charmed with all the hostels, especially those that tranajan there thank you because thanks to many pass good leave, I am Argentine, and there received me with Spanish language, but depending on who is on the day there will be someone who speaks Portuguese insurance and other languages. I love you guys,
