We stayed here for our wedding weekend with our 3 children. We stayed in one of the most expensive suites. We were not informed when we booked that the suite looked over the square and is surrounded by noisy bars and restaurants. We were kept away all night by music, people shouting, bin lorries, delivery lorries etc. We were told we could downgrade to a smaller quieter room with no offer of any refund. Breakfast is pretty basic (similar to that in an Ibis or budget hotel) nothing special. Considering the cost a very disappointing experience overall. The staff were not particulary gracious.

Whether you’re visiting or doing some business, this is a great little place to stay. The staff were really friendly on arrival and the room extremely comfy — even on a warm day. The bar down stairs was fun and there’s also a restaurant opposite. Definitely recommended.

This is a place where you'll want to spend some time. The nibbles are surprisingly inexpensive, yet taste so good and are enough to split between 2 people if you get a couple, and of course, while the cocktail list is not extensive, they are so unique with stunning and unexpected flavour combinations. The staff are super kind, and the atmosphere is cosy and reminiscent of a slightly zany grandmother's front room (consider it a good thing).

Nice bar spoilt by not so great service. Ordered the house bourbon and ginger ale — fine. Boyfriend ordered the premium bourbon with a coke. It arrived just with ice as "it only comes on the rocks. " paid 20£ for 2 drinks with a superior attitude.

Such a beautiful interior with a ‘peaky blinders’ feel. Knowledgeable staff who can advise and provide you with an understanding of the different types of drinks on offer, the cocktails come in small glasses but they pack a punch so enjoy slowly. Comfortable and beautiful inside. Perfect hideout to catch up with friends or on a date. Beautiful location for weddings photographs and private parties.

Love having a quiet, civilised cocktail here. The cocktails are well made and the service on the ball. Book in advance… although easier to get a seat these days than a year ago.

Classy, clean room with retro feel but modern reliability. Awesome!

Nice place and really great staff… cool for an evening with friends especially if u are looking to have some conversation with ur drinks.

Wonderfully appointed hotel with a classic but quirky take on interiors. Fantastic service and really lovely bar / restaurant downstairs.

One of my fav places to chill. They're festive and currently serving an absolute gem… a mix between a hot Toddie and a mulled cider! Ask the barmen or waiter for this special ;) it's not on the menu.

Nice location, inside is a bit quirky. My visit was part of a work social occasion, but the service was good, food and drink was nice. Very close to Farringdon Station and is easy to get to. If you have limited mobility and use a wheelchair, then it may be a issue.

Decor is fantastic here. Slightly kitschy but very intricate and you feel like you’re in some sort of posh mansion thrown back a few decades ago. Drinks are 11£ each for the cocktails and reasonably tasty — but nothing that “wow” either. You’ll wanna come here because of the ambience and the random knickknacks everywhere. Even the bathrooms are kinda cool.

Excellent cocktails and really lovely staff. The kind of place that will always do it's best to accommodate you even when they're busy.

The food was very good — we ate around 3pm so it was good to find a place with a full menu and open kitchen at that time. Also able to get a table outside but inside looked cool and relaxing too.

We went here for birthday cocktails and loved it. The inside decor, music, the clothes the waiters were wearing really added to the theme (which I would describe a bit as 'great gatsby'). The staff were super polite and attentive, I wish other venues would take note and use this as an example of how to do good service. It's hard to find this anymore. Five stars!

Attended a private function in the Games Room and everything was great. The staff were all friendly and attentive and the food was excellent, especially the fish.

Lovely for a quick snack and cocktail. The parsnip crisps are delicious as are the scotch eggs. They have three different types, the blood pudding one is my favourite. They also do tea pots and lots of tea flavours but I would ask for them to keep the teabag/leaves in because when I had my tea it was very weak. The parsnip crisps are super delicious and so are the cocktails! Very cosy so definitely worth a visit or several visits! :)

I came when it was probably an exceptionally busy time of year and you could tell that was the case from the staff. We were disappointed with our cocktails. I've heard good praise for this place but failed to be impressed on my visit. That said, the setting does give me hope so I'll return when it's less busy.

Was blown away when I first stepped into this bar. It's a fantastic setting for a drink or too, really well decorated. See for yourself!

They do nice brunch food but the place is set up for cocktails really — the tables aren't really made for eating off! Cozy interior.

Cool little bar with a rather eccentric decor. Nice and inventive cocktail list, you are advised to book in advance.

I haven't tried the hotel but the cocktail lounge bar is truly nice. Great cozy atmosphere and marvelous cocktails.

Incredible cocktail bar! Absolutely loved this place, the staff are super clued up on the drinks list and happy to take the time to explain anything you may have questions about. Drinks are delicious and especially on Saturday afternoons you can easily find a seat, chill out and take in the lovely Victorian style decor and make friends with the local taxidermy. Downstairs you'll find a hidden ping pong table too, so don't forget to give that a go after a few drinks.

I wish I lived there. Opulent and whimsical decor, with classy staff who take their cocktails seriously! Interesting taxidermy collection too ;).

Cool little quirky cocktail lounge hidden away at the back of the square. Most things around this part of the city seem to be closed on weekends and bank holidays but this wasn't, and was a welcome escape from the rain! Cocktails were short and strong and the decor is a kitsch/vintage. Fine for a date or girlie situation, but not the kind of place you'd bring the lads on a night out.

TSL got swept away at Zetter Townhouse – a great hotel bar in St Johns Square, Clerkenwell.
