Staff were rude and unhelpful and incompetent. Wouldn’t recommend won’t be returning…. Although the other Montcalm 10 mins walk away was lovely.

Very disappointing, obviously living on a reputation gained some time ago. No room service no minibar, no tea cups, cheap instant coffee instead of the advertised Nespresso machine. I’ve stayed in better Formula One’s, at least they perform as advertised. Not 5*, definitely not worth £300+ a night!

Awful service awful food ' trapped here for 10 days at least and given their grading they could do better.

Charged twice, emailed them, phoned 4 times, still no refund, very bad experience. £370.00 out of pocket — BEWARE.

Close down? Without doubt the worst experience I've had stopping a night anywhere. I've had more pleasant stays in a hostel. Rooms very unclean. Maintenance issues. Poor customer service. Lack lustre decor. Lack of luxuries. Amateur staff. Unhelpful duty manager. A full formal complaint has been sent via email, to which I am still awaiting a response.

Had a very comfortable stay at the hotel during my quarantine. Extremely friendly staff, very co-operative. Everything I needed beyond the basic necessities, was always just a phonecall away. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable though and sound proofing could be a bit better. Other than that, they catered to my baby daughter's dietary requirements and were very considerate of her need to spend time outdoors. My experience was much better than the online reviews I had read. Food was always delivered outside the door on time and it was always warm and delicious. There was no shortage of water. Any supplies I needed were delivered promptly at my door. The security team was also very amiable. I'll definitely stay here again if I get such a chance.

Disappointing… covid — 19 quarantine hotel centre. The room I was given looked short of a luxury prison. Very small basic room, single glass on windows, can’t even see outside whether it’s day or night — drafty room. Food menu is basic Asian — Indian, no variety. I was given small juice that looked like baby juice — high concentrate juice which tastes nothing like orange juice. They can’t even deliver food to rooms on time — total rip off for quarantine facility given we paid £1, 750 for 10 days (£175p/d).

The staff we’re absolutely amazing! We were treated like royalty from beginning to end. Nothing was too much trouble! The staff were so attentive without being intrusive. The room and hotel itself were both stunning and in a great location. The bed was super comfortable and the touches like heated flooring in the bathroom, mood lights, extensive mini bar and sky TV really put this hotel above many others we have stayed in. Would absolutely recommend and will be coming back!

Currently staying and it’s been pretty special since we walked in to the reception area. The staff are so helpful and friendly, they have gone the extra mile to ensure we’re having a pretty epic stay. A special mention to the ladies from the Guest Experience team who’ve blown it away with how they’ve arranged things for us. This will be my first of many stays at the Montcalm as they’ve gone above and beyond.

A great hotel steeped in History with very attentive staff!

Literally everything was wonderful could not recommend this beautiful and friendly hotel enough. Fantastic location fantastic staff … beds to absolutely DIE for I mean just go to sleep in them. A warning though you will be in mourning once having to leave. What an amazing experience every little detail was thought out about an anniversary visit and it was just stunning! I have left 5 star reviews on everything I could get my hands on regarding the hotel and it will be the only place I stay at in London ever again.

We got a good deal for a Sunday night here and the 5 star experience made a lovely change. We stayed in a club room, the bed was wonderfully comfortable and I liked the rainstorm shower. I did my best Fred Astaire singing impression. (You might have to be old to get that one)

This is our fourth stay here. We always had standard rooms so this time we chose a superior one. It looked nice overall but when we went into the bathroom, there were pubic hairs all over the place. After mentioning it they sent in a cleaning lady who vaccuumed for 30 seconds, then left again. The bathtub doesnt drain well, the shower glass looks disgusting. We are extremely dissapointed in this time's service and will be the last time we chose this hotel.

Amazing hotel for comfortable stay. Perfect location in the city and accessible to tube. Particularly liked the way the bed is made every night and with a tin of mint is very thoughtful. Though the check in took a while, thanks to inflow of guest, hence cant blame the front desk as they did what best they could. Staffs were courteous and friendly. The breakfast was great with plenty of good options to choose from. The omelet made to order as per taste and requirement. Overall great hotel, excellent location, amazing breakfast and awesome staffs. Best wishes.

Beautiful hotel, from the waterfall wall in the lobby to the heated floors and towel rack in the bathroom. This hotel was more than I expected, and the staff friendly the room was spacious and quiet. Oh I almost forgot to add the Spitafields street market on Sunday was amazing. Tons of unique finds and a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

This place looks lovely from the outside but don’t be fooled! The rooms are dark with windows that don’t open and things that don’t work. The bed is lumpy and the pillows are hard. You get wet turning on the shower and the towel racks, door hooks, sink and tub were built for Giants. I couldn’t reach them! Breakfast is a total ripoff and there is nothing to do in this part of town. The final straw is the pretentious or lazy attitude of the reception and waitstaff. Housekeeping and the Bellhops were super nice.

They stay here was perfect! The hotel is modern, clean and beautiful. The room was spacious, very well decorated and equipped. Really looks and feels like luxury hotel. The underground is about 5 minutes walk away, and very close to all the attractions. But the best thing about this beautiful hotel is the wonderful staff. The reception was friendly and welcoming and even gave us complimentory wine! Highly recommend this hotel.

Giving them one star is charity. Horrible communication between the hotel and the clients. Locked out of rooms with no notice even though they had multiple ways to contact us and had been given corporate payment information months in advance. Avoid this place at all cost.

I don’t recommend staying here. The airport transfer ripped us off by GBP70 because they said we were late (the driver only gave us 30 mins from landing to clear customs and collect baggage and then charged us for making him wait — total scam), the rooms aren’t particularly nice and are very dated (for over $500 per night), they charge a service AND plate fee on top of room service, they wouldn’t process and approved refund for an early check out for my colleagues until I had to escalate it and ask every day for 4 days after my colleagues had left, and the staff aren’t very friendly (not all — some are). This is possibly the worst experience in a hotel I’ve had frankly.

Wonderful hotel! Exceptional value for money. Beautiful building and setup, really friendly staff. Super comfortable room and bed and great facilities. Will happily return and highly recommend the hotel!

The Hotel sucks! 1 star Maximum. It is not clear how to get to the room. First go through the zero floor, then the elevator to the first, then to the right on the Caribbean, then left on the Caribbean, then down the steps, then the Caridoow, then the elevator to the 2nd floor, then again on the Caribbean… And it's real! No exaggeration.
The room is not even a 3 star.

Would definitely recommend & looking forward to staying here again. Our room was upgraded & after being escorted there we discovered a complimentary bottle of wine & birthday balloons after my wife had mentioned it was my birthday! Lovely surprise & made our stay even more special! Staff couldn't do enough for you, we used room service, food was lovely & arrived quickly. Bed was huge & very comfortable. Thank you Montcalm we look forward to staying with you again!

Very comfortable bed and pillows. Hairdryer is fantastic, not the usual low powered hold your finger on the button hotel model. A bit of a rabbit warren. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very clean and comfortable room good size bed excellent shower and washing facilities. Only down size I had to take 2 different lifts to get to my room it was a bit of a maze. Continental breakfast was a bit disappointing not a great deal of choice. Choice of coffee's was not good and served warm. Would use again only for one night stop over purely for the fact it was close to work.

Really lovely hotel, slept like a baby on the very comfortable bed, staff were friendly & the breakfast was great quality — it’s the best place to book for the Barbican.

This is our third stay here and as usual it was a wonderful stay. We have very fond memories of staying here, this was the first hotel we had stayed in when we first got together and had a gorgeous room with a brick ceiling.
The second year was for my 30th and our recent engagement. Staff went out their way and upgraded us to a wow suite with prosecco and chocolates and a lovely card.
This year we returned to celebrate our anniversary and was disappointed with the standard of the room allocated, the room was not as nice as pictures made out and after our previous stays and gorgeous rooms it left us feeling downhearted, the team were made aware of our feedings and couldn't have been more helpful In rectifying this. We were moved into a Barbican suite with prosecco and chocolates. It really made the stay so special. Thank you to Alice and the team at Montclam Brewery for making it another memorable trip. We will of course be back same time next year for more celebrations. Xx.

Fairly decent hotel offering. The location is fabulous and close to Liverpool st, the Barbican. The rooms could definitely do with a refresh though. The reception area sets standards fairly high and unfortunately the rooms don’t match up. Lovely staff and an excellent breakfast.

Very comfortable and simple. Staff was helpful and friendly. Room came with a free local mobile phone which is amazing. And a free bottle of wine which is tasty.

It was an amazing experience spending New Year in London, the hotel was lovely but furniture as a little tatty in places. And I could not sleep on the bed as it was way to soft, room service was reasonable in price and staff where more than helpful. Rooms were very small for my liking but nice enough decoration but not as tidy as I previously mentioned. All staff where happy to help with everything you needed but the work being done and needed to be done let it down a little.

Very disappointing for a 5 star hotel… Definitely NOT worth the price paid.

Service: 5 Location: 4. Yes, it’s close to the underground but takes in the end forever to get to to the city center. Facilities: 3. Overall it looks really nice and fancy. But we got a room with broken toilet and shower. The room may be too little if you are going for several days. I did expect a bit higher quality for the Montcalm.

Hotel looks lovely, room was nice but a bit on the small side. Only thing that lets it down is the single glazed windows, which I guess can't be changed. We were away from the road but still got woken by the dust carts at 7am. Route to our room was through a serious of corridors and different lifts, all added to the quirkiness. Staff were always pleased to help. If I'm staying in this part of London again will be taking further visits.

Nice rooms, if not a little on the small side. I was travelling on my own for work, and it was more than adequate. The breakfast had a good selection, and was of acceptable quality — it's on the expensive side, but that's fairly standard for hotel breakfasts and you pay for convenience. If you want something cheaper/better then there are a few other venues within a 10minute walk. Location is great and it's only a 5-10 minute walk from Barbican or Moorgate tube stations. A few minutes more and you can easily be at Liverpool Street.

Really nice hotel. Very helpful staff. Room is good with some nice features such as underfloor heating in the bathroom and a free mobile phone that you can take out with you. Bed was a little uncomfortable which was disappointing and the Wi-Fi was solid but quite slow. Shower is good with rainfall or handheld options. Breakfast very expensive if you want it as an extra. Would happily stay again, but there may be better options out there.

Very central location. Extremely helpful staff. Solid English breakfast in very comfortable environment. The rooms are extremely well furnished and maintained. They have everything you could possibly think of except one thing… they are lacking in space. The rooms are small as are the beds. I would stay here again if traveling alone for a day or two but any longer would feel too cramped.

Love this place, really nice staff, good service, only reason I didn't give 5 is cos this time my room had some faults and I had to move. Generally I'd strongly recommend this place.

Good location for a city centre stay to be close to the sights but also in a reasonably quiet area. We drove and parked nearby at the barbican centre. Room was good size, clean and nicely decorated. Bed and bedding were excellent, best sleep in ages. Didn't make use of bar or restaurant so cannot comment. All staff very friendly and helpful.

Excellent room. Well equipped with nice extras like good toiletries etc. Complimentary smart phone provided with inclusive unlimited national and international calls. We didn't use it, but a thoughtful addition for international travellers.

Not too expensive, but it feels it. I love the decor, and the service is impeccable. The pub, the Jugged Hare, has excellent food. The room is comfortable, and modern.

A very POSH hotel. Excellent service. Even mirror heat to avoid foggy bathroom mirrors… unfortunately only suitable for 2m or higher people.

My husband booked this and we were not disappointed. At reception we asked if our room was a quiet one. The lady on reception was very honest and said it probably wasn't. She took the trouble to switch rooms for us which was greatly appreciated. The room allocated to us was very tranquil. The service we experienced during our stay was second to none, however, we didn't eat breakfast there or eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that.

I went for a company conference. The venue is quite nice. Not the best I've seen but still quite good. It would be 3 stars if it wasn't for the staff, so well done for them and the recruiters.

I joined my husband on a work trip here with my 8 week old daughter. The rooms are comfortable and clean but by far the best thing about this hotel is the wonderfully kind and helpful staff. The staff treated me and my little one like queens, carrying the pram and opening doors for me and personally escorting us to breakfast. In a busy place like London where a lot of places would find a crying baby such a nuisance I was so grateful for their kindness.

Great central location & a really modern polished room. The continental breakfast on the first floor was good but choice was limited. Staff were friendly & attentive & I would definitely return.

The service at the Montcalm at the Brewery was outstanding. We were upgraded and a special birthday treat left in one of the guests rooms which was such a lovely touch. The staff just couldn't do enough to make our stay as comfortable and special as possible including a complimentary breakfast — we felt like vips.

Room was small but very comfortable. Now the rest: Nice view of some scaffolding and piles of rubbish. Reception staff were absolutely miserable, unhelpful and exceptionally difficult to deal with. All parts of the 'administration' for my stay (pre-payment, receipts, where to eat breakfast, checking-in, checking-out, how I could access my room after 10pm) were completely wrong and took ages to sort out. I was in a party of 7 people in 7 separate rooms, and each of us had to deal with the same issues despite repeating ourselves again and again. Even the management took ages to sort out the utter chaos. Definitely wont be staying again. The hotel is a maze. If you are staying the the south wing good luck finding your room after 10pm!

Room seemed small but had a small kitchen included and a large en-suite bathroom as big as the room. Room service was quick and I'd recommend the mushroom ravioli.

We stayed for my birthday on Saturday night. Upon finding out it was my birthday we were treated to a room upgraded and stayed in a WOW suite. The staff were incredible, very friendly and helpful. Would absolutely stay again.

Unfortunately not as good as my last stay. The staff were good as always, lovely bunch, very friendly and very helpful. However the power went down in the early evening which although outside of their control meant checking in was a challenging and they didn't seem to be able to give any guidance on what was happening, when the power would be up and what the process was if the power did not return. I also found that the room I had although nice was very noisey as it backed onto to main road. I am sure this was a one off and will certainly stay again just in the instance it was not the best experience.

The room had several heating options, including heated bathroom tiles! Perfect for winter. The hotel staff and service was professional and the location is close to two stations and near the key business hub of london, so great for business travel. One area of improvement would be the room service — not very good quality at all, pasta dish inedible.

We just spend 4 nights at the Montcalm at The Brewery and it really was one of our very best experiences in a hotel in London. The staff is extremely professional and welcoming, they allowed us a much earlier check-in (due to the jet lag of a flight from New York), and a free upgrade to a fabulous club room. The shower/bath combo with the rain shower and hand-held was most welcome as were the robe, the products etc. The mini-bar was even fairly priced and also had room in the fridge for our own things. And the turn-down service was great as well. The layout is a shade confusing as they have kept to the actual architecture of the brewery but we sort of found that part of the pleasure and individuality of the place. We did not sample the rather over-priced restaurant fare but there were other places nearby as the location was so convenient for work and touristy things. And the bed, what a relief. Finally a great bed in London. We'll be back in the new year.

We have just had an absolutely wonderful weekend stay at the Montcalm. For friendly courtesy, professional care and warmth of welcome this hotel is unsurpassed. Service and amenities have been outstanding, so quiet and so comfortable, and nothing has been too much trouble for all the staff we encountered throughout our stay. One can truly relax in London at the Montcalm at the brewery — apart from its central location, it is quite simply a superb hotel. We would like to say a particular thank you to Megha Singh who was outstanding, making our stay so very special, ensuring our comfort in every respect down to the smallest details. She is a genuine asset and heads a first rate team. We have already arranged our next visits!

Overpriced and pretentious. Staff were friendly but this wasn't nearly enough to make up for the lacklustre atmosphere and room. Ad described the room as having a 'city view' – well we had a view of a concrete wall. Best thing about it was the glass wall between the bedroom and the bathroom so you can watch your partner having a shit (which I did). Do not recommend for new couples. Or anyone, really, unless you like that kind of thing. Also we were recommended to go to the Jugged Hare for dinner, which was just terrible and should not have been recommended.

We had a fantastic stay at the Montcalm. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the room that we were upgraded to was just perfect! We would definitely go back. Glen and Chrissy.

Very high standard of service, easy to see how this is a 5* hotel. I stayed for two nights (Friday and Saturday) and had a wonderful room, which was fresh and welcoming. Biggest bathroom I have seen in a UK hotel. Room service was to a high standard and good value and very filling, the club sandwich would be enough for two. The area the hotel is in felt safe and is upmarket being in the old financial hub. Easy public transport around and with black cabs aways passing by. The staff are very good, the type you feel are happy working in the hotel and are well trained. The building is interesting being a old brewery and as it is over 5 floors you never have to wait long for a lift. Looking forward to my next trip to London and will stay here again.

This affordable hotel 5 * is located in a former brewery and is rated.
The setting is gorgeous, and the staff very friendly and helpful!
There is a great fitness center in shape with a sauna, a hammam.
The rooms are luxurious: the carpet is soft, the bed is very comfortable, there is a pillowtop mattress shape memory, the bathroom is spacious, very clean and very nice. There is a large flat screen, a radio, USB ports connected to the TV and an Ipod docking / Iphone.
A safe is free available, as well as a (useful for London) umbrella, bathrobes and slippers are waiting for us!
Tea, coffee, water, fresh fruit, cookies are offered access to the Wifi is free.
Beauty products, brand Elemis are of high quality.
Finally, we took the English Breakfast to Jugged Hare, he was very full (hot and cold buffet) and very good!
An excellent experience to repeat as soon.

Decent Hotel. Rooms are well equiped and have a very good lighting concept, comfy beds and good toiletries. Some rooms have minuscule windows however and the poor quality of the materials takes a lot of the initial wow factor away again. The gym is subpar: 2 treadmills, a bike and a few free weights all in a minuscule room — hardly acceptable for a hotel of this price range. Another problem are some of the rooms which require a 5-7 minute walk from the reception area to get there — do recommend to ask for a room close to he reception, which they generally comply with when asked. All in all a comfy hotel, with not too much to nag about but the price quality ratio is disproportionate since all you get here is equivalent to a 4 star max hotel and not to the 5 stars it passes by. Good for a short stay but you can get better hotels for the same price.

I stayed here for almost $400 a night. I expected safety while I was on business. The staff here had duplicated my credit cards and went on a 10k shopping spree and left my original card in my passport bag. The staff's inital response? “Sir, did you lock your safe? Im guess you forgot to. ” After 4 slow weeks where only a threat of legal action got them moving (they were relucatant the whole way), the police were finally involved and they were forced to go through surveillance. Here's what staff manager had to say: “I am sorry that you felt the length of time taken to investigate your allegation was inadequate. We have now concluded our internal investigations and can assure you that we have dealt with the matter internally. All evidence has been shared with the Police. Should the Police require further information we will of course be share this with them. I would like to assure you that we take our guests security very seriously and we have strict procedures in place to ensure your safety. It is disappointing that these have been breached internally and I am sure you will appreciate that would not want this to happen. I am mindful of the time and inconvenience this incident has caused to you and therefore as a gesture of goodwill I would like to offer you a refund for a night of your previous stay. This was paid through a 3rd Party and therefore should be refunded to you in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. ” One night? Thank you, Montcalm.

Things I love about this hotel : friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, free tea and coffee making facilities in the room, great facilities and fantastic location. Things I didn't love : the windows in my room were really small, and the bed wasn't as big as I would have liked. Top tip : the breakfast buffet at the Jugged Hare is pricey at £22 but is probably the best full English style breakfast buffet that I've ever had. Highly recommended.

The Hotel was okay. There was, however, a window and a room exclusively with artificial light tell me not to. In the near, near an old cemetery is a good Pub. Until the Tube is about 10min, and partly by an ugly underpass. To re-book, I would not do it.
