This is, honestly, one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. My girlfriend and I were down for Japfest car show at Castle Combe and, as it's an early start, decided to stay the nights before and after. The hotel is a beautiful old building situated at the top of Chipping Sodbury 'high street'. The owner was welcoming and friendly, chatting to us about our visit, advising about the town, and showing us around the hotel and the room. The room: Surprisingly for an old building, the room was pretty big and full of character, it really felt cosy. It was well equipped with a good freeview TV, dresser, wardrobe (with proper hangers! ), plenty of tea and coffee, mains sockets by the bed (something on which many of the chain hotels really drop the ball), and lovely decor. The art choices, not just in the room but throughout the hotel, show real taste rather than the generic flower splodges a lot of places seem to throw up! Parking: The hotel has no parking of its own but there is a lot of street parking which is free (see my photo). If you arrive later on a Friday or Saturday evening, you may struggle to get in here but there is a free public car park 5 minutes walk away anyway. Internet: In the (very thorough) welcome pack in the room was a Wi-Fi code and the internet speeds were great. In this day and age it astounds me how poor/expensive hotel Wi-Fi can be, so this was a refreshing change. Bed: The bed was, unfortunately, a little soft and me being much bigger than my girlfriend tended to mean she was rolled into me by gravity! I didn't get the best nights sleep because of this but it wasn't terrible either. Bathroom: Again, great. The shower was powerful and hot and the whole bathroom was very clean and modern. Breakfast: This was the jewel in the crown. Everything cooked fresh to order, all sourced from local butchers and grocers, and included in the price. Delicious. We will definitely look to book here again next year, it's a wonderful hotel run by people who clearly take pride in the place. Best of all, when booking, I put a cheeky note in the comments to ask if there was any chance of a hob nob. On arrival we found that, with the tea and coffee in the room, was a big box of hob nobs! Awesome.
