Amazing location, food was great.

What a beautiful hotel. Stunning location, lovely friendly staff. Very warm welcome. The food is gorgeous. Great place for a relaxing weekend in the lakes. Room is gorgeous too. Will definitely be back. The only thing I would say was not perfect was, there was overhead shower. Bath was lovely with a beautiful view and handheld shower, however I definitely would have preferred a overhead shower option.

I love staying here, the staff are always friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and every single one has an amazing view. Last but not least… the food… I still wonder how the chef doesn’t have a Michelin Star!

We have been coming here once or twice annually for about 7 years now and wouldn’t stay anywhere else in the Lake District. The setting is superb, the staff are wonderful and the food is amazing. Looking forward to our next visit which will be later this year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We've just got back from a very enjoyable stay, excellent food, very friendly and helpful staff and magnificent views. So very peaceful and relaxing I can thoroughly recommend a stay here.

On the plus side, the hotel has all the ingredients to be fabulous… it is in a great position, the dog-friendly rooms are ideal, having their own private access directly into the secure garden with super walks from the door The lounge has lovely big windows to take advantage of the beatiful views and the food is fabulous. Sadly though this hotel desperately needs a complete refurbishment, the decor is tired and tatty and the level of cleanliness is very poor… certainly not what you expect when charging premium rates.

When we entered the hotel to ask for the possibilities of having a cup of coffee we friendly where invited in. Seeing a beautiful dining area and feeling the warmth of the whole house, the friendly staff and a GM working hard to give the guests the best service and that homely feeling.

I’m a little loathe to recommend you because then other people will come and I might have to share you. What an amazing hotel, what a team and as for the food wow. We stayed for a weekend and didn’t want to leave — ever. Thank you for the ever changing views out of all the windows, the memories made and the best nights sleep I’ve had in months. Will be back without a doubt. Highly recommended.

Great hotel, friendly staff and a absolutely amazing food.

Staying here for the second time. It’s surrounding are lovely, plenty of different birds to see. The food is excellent with a good variety to choose from. All the staff are very professional polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend staying here for a peaceful relaxing escape.

We came with friends who were regulars at TBG, but this was our first visit. We were all booked for 3 nights on a DBB basis. We had booked a standard room and on arrival my wife and I were taken to room 22. Once there we were told it was always a hot room and that a mobile AC unit was in the room for us to use. These units are very noisy and have to vent thru a flexible pipe to an open window. After a while in the room we discovered the reason why the room is always hot — hot water pipes within a raised boxed in duct with air vents to allow the hot air to escape (into the room). The raised boxed in duct ran along side the bed about 5 foot long as as well as being an unnecessary source of heat was in our view a dangerous feature. We raised the issue just before dinner and after breakfast the following morning we moved to a much nicer room — 2 grades higher than standard, at no extra cost. We were of course grateful for the upgrade but disappointed that only one member of staff the following day showed any real sympathy to the problem in room 22 and stating the room is not really suitable for a couple, but better for a single person. The bathroom was also very small. So if you intend staying at the hotel make sure you avoid room 22. The restaurant staff were very good and the meals excellent. A fixed menu with several choices and each day a different menu of daily specials. Location excellent, but unfortunately we didn't have much sun to enjoy the hotel garden.

A very comfortable stay after being moved from a room definitely not meant for 2 people, cramped and not comfortable. Next room very comfortable and spacious. Staff approachable, friendly, helpful and efficient. Really enjoyed the food, the standard was fantastic, great choice each day in addition to a great seasonal menu. Had a chat with the chef too, a very personable man who chatted after our meal. Thanks for a great stay in a beautiful area of the UK.

We've just had a wonderful stay @ this gem of a hotel — it is set in the most beautiful and peaceful area and the views are stunning. The staff are friendly and good humoured, whilst also professional and efficient. Particular thanks to Michelle, Tiema,? Ozil (young dark haired lady) and a very cheery young Hungarian chap! Stunning geographical setting with pleasant facilities. I imagine the dining is first rate. Not dog friendly.

What a hidden gem this is — so peaceful & tranquil also very accommodating it was excellent & food was to die for. Staff were very friendly & accommodating specially as I’m Coeliac & most choices on the menus could & were adapted for a gluten free diet — staff had a good understanding of cross contamination etc & for first time in a long while I felt completely at ease — after the first choice off menu I never had to ask again & breakfast was same + had gluten free toast would highly recommend & will definitely be back.

After a delightful first leg of our walk from Hawes End, stopped for tea here. Lovely setting, well appointed hotel. A great choice for a little luxury.

It’s the special location that marks this out as THE place to stay not just in Borrowdale but in the whole of The Lakes. All the rooms (yes all of them! ) look out on the fells and are spacious and superbly appointed. The whole place has a feeling of seclusion and you feel you’re right alongside all the flora and fauna — a deer walked right past my patio door this morning! The food is amazing and the friendly and efficient staff and service top everything off.

My favourite place to stay in the Lakes. The lounge is the most wonderful place to relax in comfort with amazing views even in the rain. Food is excellent and they had no trouble catering for my gluten free needs.

Just had a one night stay in the Hotel with our two little Cavalier, what a lovely place. All the staff were polite helpful, nothing was to much trouble. T he room was gorgeous and the food second to none. Once again can I thank the staff, from reception, cleaners, resteraunt staff, the Bar staff everyone for making it a wonderful time.

Just back from an excellent weekend at the Borrowdale Gates. We've been twice before but this time took my mother, the kids and their partners and I'm pleased to say they all enjoyed it as much as us.
The location is spectacular with views of the fells — Castle Crag looked as Tolkeinesque as ever. Super food — the Cumberland breakfast is to die for — and the staff are so friendly and helpful.

Fab hotel nestled in middle of Lakes. Stumbled across this hotel while walking on a very rainy July day. A warm welcome, great food and perfect coffee sorted us out before continuing our soggy travels. Highly recommended.

Best food in the whole of the Lake District. Very good service. Great rooms. Lots of great walking straight from the hotel. Very good drying room for wet kit.

Having booked a long weekend here that we were planning for June, we unfortunately had to cancel. We booked in March and cancelled two day later. When booking I gave my credit card details and was told these were to "hold the room". Upon cancelling I was told that I would be charged £100 deposit. This was mentioned AT NO POINT during booking. I am sure this hotel is very comfortable, but with customer service like this I would never visit.

We greatly enjoyed an overnight stay here on our way to the Highlands of Scotland. The welcome was warm and the location of the hotel is amazing, with fabulous views all round and a peaceful, tranquil setting. The hotel itself is comfortable, with lots of relaxing spaces and a great view from our bedroom. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, with the Cumbrian breakfast a particular highlight. Recommended.

This is a relaxing haven in gorgeous countryside. The food is superb, the staff are lovely, with nothing too much trouble. It is worth every one of its four stars. Highly recommended.

To be fair. Food is great but didn't feel comfortable with staff. Generally room is quite a good condition. You're going to sleep well here.

This is a stunningly situated, family run hotel. I have stayed twice, and thoroughly recommend it. It isn't cheap, but nowhere in the Lakes is. It is, however, excellent value for money. The service is friendly and efficient, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, with wonderful views over Borrowdale. The food is very good indeed. I shall be back.

Visited with a one year old child and my mum, who is disabled. The hotel is in lovely surroundings and the rooms and food were superb. However what really made this place stand out were the staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Was mums first holiday in years after a long illness and we couldn't have made a better choice.
