One thing that is a must to change about this place, is cancelling with valid reason. No one wants to become unwell with Covid and I think it's shocking that we couldn't even rebook for another date. They were all happy to do it until they found out we booked through booking. Com and told us to contact them, when I did and the guy rang the hotel to try and rearrange the dates they kept on declining even though it was stated that we were rebooking due to health reasons. Not exactly a nice thing to become ill and then be told you are losing £200 aswell. 1* service from the lady behind the phone. No help whatsoever, I wonder if I had of offered to pay their booking. Com fees if they would of been more willing to help.

Beautiful views, room was very spacious and the host was friendly and helpful. Price is definitely worth it for the location and views. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Very expensive for 1 night no food drinks expensive rooms poor. Nothing like the pictures.

I was hoping that a stay at Dale Head Hall would be lovely, as the views looked amazing. At c £160 per night with breakfast for a studio room for 2 — I thought it would be a pretty good.
Not the case though. I do like old world charm, but this disappears when you enter the hotel, with a random jumble of settees. It just feels like a community centre.
It was the room that got me first though. Cheap laminate flooring, stainless steel sink, smell of disinfectant, very dark… and dirty/worn carpet outside the room. The array of cigarette lighters outside the room where the smokers obviously congregate — didn't seem to tie in with the location or £160 per night.
The room just looked like it had been done on the cheap, and my friend and I just didn't want to stay there.
What surprised me most though, was the response of the supervisor on duty. When I said I wanted to leave, they thought it was reasonable that all of the hotel wasn't up to the same standard, as things needed updating all the time… and they couldn't do it all at once. If I had been paying £80 I could have understood that, but not £160 per night.
After a bit of arguing, I was shown another room, but this was largely the same… but with more light minus the metal sink. By this time, we really didn't want to stay there. I was then shown another room, which was actually lovely… but I'd lost all desire to stay there… as the rest of the hotel is just so shabby and I'd had to argue.

Stayed there with my eldest daughter. The hotel is lovely, staff really friendly and the views are breathtaking.

Location and views are stunning.

Beautiful atmosphere, just a 10 min drive from keswick village. Beautiful views and a stunning lake just a 2 min walk through the bushes. staff were friendly and the hotel itself was lovely, enjoyed my stay here with my daughter and partner. Quiet and relaxing.

The scenery and setting are amazing. Lovely food and the rooms are so quiet even though the hotel was very busy. I would definitely recommend it.

We love stopping at Dale Head Hall. Lovely and peaceful location and what a view to wake up to with Thirlmere 50 yards from the hotel front door. Would highly recommend the self catering cottages on site. Great location only a 10 minute drive from Keswick.

Booked two rooms for three nights. One was an apartment on the first floor. Loved their hospitality. They close at 11 pm so each time we were late, we called ahead and they made sure we were ok. Good hosts! Good scenic views! Pleasant breakfast. They even did cleaning service to the apartment! Will recommend! The pictures are of the view and apartment.

The apartments were very clean but had limited utilities. The cost was exorbitant and I would not return here for that reason.

Everything was so nice the view is amazing and the staff are very helpful and polite although it would be nice if we could order food instead of having to go out, besides that it was an amazing place to stay.

Breakfast grounds and friendliness excellent — room 16 well hastily converted lounge/Kitchen — no wardrobe or dressing mirror couldn’t move for the furniture and a shower that was feeble at best — not good at all on that front!

Great hotel with modern rooms, great views and lovely grounds to excellent explore.

Dale head hall is close to our hearts my hubby to be proposed to me here and we have just booked our mini moon here too, picture perfect location and amazing staff who can’t do enough for you, we will be returning here for many years to come x.

It was fine to stay in but for the price it was horrible. It was a strange atmosphere and very noisy. For the price most of the breakfast was MICROWAVED.

Without doubt the best view I have ever had from a hotel room! Rooms are quite big yet cosily decorated. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended when visiting the lake district.

DISAPPOINTING… STRANGE ATMOSPHERE Should have been a delightful visit based on the location etc… but was a total disappointment. Room was a nice size with a good view and that's were the positive stuff ends. No one to greet us as we arrived and it took a while to find the reception, which was a small table wedged into a small hallway, this is not manned at any time and staff were hard to find. The lounge looked like it belonged in an old peoples home and the hotel bar lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. There was no decaf coffee in the room and when I asked for some I was told they did not have any but I could have some at breakfast the next day. The room was freezing when we arrived, that's when they switched the heating on and it took quite a while to warm up. We were told that the Chef was ill so they could not offer us an evening meal and that we should go to the hotel up the road to dine, it seems from looking at other reviews this is a common occurrence. The gardens that are advertised as going right down to the lake stop short of the water by quite a bit… so no lakeside walk. Sunday breakfast was between 8.30 and 9.30… so no lie in. The overall atmosphere was very odd, I did not hear anyone talk at normal volume the whole time we were there, the staff did not interact with any guests and the bar had the atmosphere of a crematorium. Alex Polizzi would have her work cut out for her at this place.

Stayed with my husband and son in a lake view room, warm and cosy and a stunning view. A tasty breakfast too. Helpful friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The best thing about this place is its location and tranquility it can offer! The building's interiors are interesting as well. The room we had didn't have a nice view but was of a good size and nicely furnished. We were lucky enough not to dine at the hotel as we were always taking long walks (Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn etc) in the fantastic Lake District area. Breakfast (included in the room price) was more than descent but nothing special. The location was absolutely wonderful as the hotel overlooks the lake. Conclusion: Recommended but can be improved.

Lovely views from a pleasant room 2. Nice old building with gardens right up to the edge of the lake. Set back off the main road so not too easy to spot.

It's good for a little stay. The rooms are a bit small but I was ok. Nice breakfast and yeah. I like it.

Kinda reminded me of Fawlty towers, but not in a good way. Setup is a bit odd and the rooms are in definite need of a refresh. I would say that it's ok for a stay, but is not good value for money. Didn't try the restaurant but breakfast was ok.

A thoroughly delightful hotel, located next to Lake Therlmire in the beautiful Lake District. It enjoys a most spectacular view of the lake, and it's private gardens are a peaceful haven. Only birdsong and baaring lambs will break the silence.
Upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome to this family run establishment, and when we asked for a change of room to accommodate a lakeside view, this was quickly put in place.
During our 4 night stay, we enjoyed a delicious and well presented breakfast every morning; options included cereals, toast, cuassaints, a full 'English', and salmon and poached eggs. Great value. Amazing location. Comfortable room. Thoroughly recommended.
Note: We were almost put off by some reviews on Trip Advisor. Read them all, not just those written after a rainy day and a row with the spouse! Enjoy. We'll be back, that's for sure.

Super place … friendly staff and owner … Awesome location.

Comfortable well-kept rooms with a variety of tariffs and excellent views available. Excellent breakfast, free Wi-Fi, Sky TV. Calm and peaceful, perfect for great walks or just to get away from it all. Party of seven, we had no complaints about our long weekend over St George's day.

Far away the city. Enjoy the calm.

We stayed in the Armboth holiday home in the hotel grounds: A good base for a Lake District holiday. Comfortable accommodation with the basics provided. Lovely views of Thirlmere from on the other side of the hotel with easy access to the local Thirlmere paths. The hotel restaurant was not available to us but there is a reasonable pub just a short stroll away. Was lovely to walk along the drive and then straight up to the summit of Helvellyn. Keswick is a short drive away and offers a good selection of supermarkets, restaurants etc. I would recommend getting the boat there walking round the shores of Derwent Water.

The best thing about this place is the location and tranquility — it cannot be bettered. The interior is nice too. The room we had had a nice view and was a good size and nicely furnished. One of the reasons we chose this because we were led to believe by 'best loved hotels' and 'Johansens' that this was a food lovers place to stay. We feel completely misled. The food was awful. Prawn cocktail for starters — barely NVQ level one and not a locally sourced ingredient in sight. There was only two choices, the other being melon! The main courses were equally disappointing — overcooked salmon and overcooked chicken with watery unseasoned 'quenelles' of mashed potato. One dessert was homemade. We felt totally ripped off. The wine was good though which helped.! One can do so much better for the money — a real shame. In conclusion:a beautiful location and view ruined by a rediculous menu and poor food and price. Stay there but only have b and b or do your homework — maybe they just could not be bothered the night we stayed.
