Excellent hotel. Lovely staff, great food and comfortable lounge areas, plus good bar alongside.

This Hotel is situated within the secret garden of the Lake District, a location that is the key to brilliant dynamic elevated walks upon some of Englands richest landscape and rewarding views. Such majesty is reflected within the woodland walks beside the river of Borrowdale. Then after your flight of adventure you return to a hot bath with food of such quality it underwrites the hotels bespoke characteristic of excelence. From which you go home. 'Fatter and fitter'.

We have stayed here at least 7 times. Staff lovely and helpful. Maybe a tad expensive but hey ho we are worth it.

Brilliant hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Set in a amongst a beautiful landscape with many walking routes available and easy access to Keswick Village. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Just had an excellent stay at the Scafell Hotel. Modern, clean room, excellent breakfasts and evening meal and helpful friendly staff. Fantastic walks straight from the door.

Excellent beer and lunch at the Riverside Bar at the Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite after a two day trek over Dale Head, delicious. My favorite stopover in Borrowdale. Bar staff are great, cheerful and always friendly.

Very welcoming walkers bar with a huge open fire, great place to aim for at the end of a cold soggy lake district hike.

Riverside bar had roaring fire and was fairly busy. We sat by a window overlooking the river Derwent. The barman was helpful and chatty. The coffee was a good sized cup and they provided extra hot water and a spare cup to accommodate my sister's need for weak coffee. Accompanying the drink we had reasonable scones with jam and cream. All at a fair price of £14.40 for 3 people.

Got married there, great venue. Parking is limited. We have revisited the hotel on a number of occasions.

Walkers bar did very good food. Nice warm fire and was busy both nights I ate there.

Good walkers pub with decent pub grub and effluent service. Beer selection small but ok if you like ale. Not much in the way of pale ale and ipa types.

Absolutely loved it. The staff were the best.

Excellent location, wow! hardly any choice for vegetarians, only 3 choices with all of them including goats cheese, im sorry but not every vegetarian has to suffer the smell of goats cheese… cant they have been more creative with their vegetarian choices? what about simple arrabiata pasta? vegeburger, pizza, a vege curry? so much choice … but no they had to stick to some rediculous vegetarian choices fit for local sheep… Room, very clean, well done! NOISE… ALL NIGHT I HEARD EVERY WORD THE UPSTAIRS COUPLE WERE SAYING AND when the front door to the annex opened every 4 minutes, OMG… THE DOOR CREAKED LIKE THERE WAS OIL DRILLING GOING ON… I didnt sleep all night… YOU NEED TO SOUND PROOF ALL THE FLOORS… service — excellent, cant complain, all staff were very helpful and friendly. i would definately stay there again, but wouldnt eat there, I would go out somewhere. Sleep, well due to the fantastic location, n the middle of mountains, I am so addicted to that tranquil hotel, even with the faults…

Very welcome couple of points in the Riverside bar after a long walk on a hot summer day. Friendly staff and customers.

We visited the Riverside Bar after a day walking in the Borrowdale Valley and we were very pleasantly surprised. Great food and lovely local beers. Definitely worth a visit.

A few ales from Cumbrian breweries on offer, such as the Snek Lifter and Thirst Quencher which were decent. The gammon eggs and chips was decent and a good size portion but they were out of a few dishes when I visited. It was quite busy on the Saturday I visited around 7pm.

Hospitality and food were excellent, beautiful setting but unfortunately let down by our room. Dark, drab and full of damp on the walls.

Would a great place, warm friendly and superb. I would hesitate to stay here again, I arrived wet and muddy and they could not have been more welcoming. The evening meal was lovely too. If you are this way on stay there.

I love the Riverside Bar, the food, the ales, the staff, the best pub ever and ever. For the last 3 years we have visited one per year in June the Lakes, and we love it, we have stayed at Kilnhow. The Lakes is the more beatiful place around the world.

My wife and I had a short break at The Scafell Hotel just last week, 16 to 19 Aug. Can't say enough about how good this hotel is. Quite often there is usualy something to grumble about but we couldn't find anything at all. The location is stunning, although we stayed in the annexe by the riverside and had the lovely sound of running water but the best views I would imagine, are from the main hotel looking out at the fells. The room was very spacious, not often found in Lakeland hotels and the bathroom wonderfully decorated with a full size bath and shower over. We weren't hiking but I should imagine had we been, a soak in this bath at the end of the day would have been bliss. A good quality TV with plenty of channels, a huge bed with a nice firm mattress, plenty of clothes space for easily a weeks stay and very well decorated. NO nast y niffs or pongs either, just a nice fresh smell after the cleaner had been in. The first night we just ate in the Riverside Bar, very busy between 6:30 and 8:00 pm with families and walkers and all dressed accordingly, not a suit and tie room this but very lively and busy. The staff in here were, rather strangely, all male and quite young but their work rate was amazing and despite it being very busy, we never had to wait long for our food. The portions are huge, we had the steak pudding and at £10 was great value for money. The second night we ate in the main restaurant which has a set price for either single, two or four course meal.

For the last fifteen years we have visited the Lake District twice a year with a goup of four other couples and we have stayed at number of hotels during that period. We have stayed at the Scafell on five occasions, for weekend breaks and have found that the Scafell is the best hotel of all the hotels we have used. Each weekend has been excellent, the rooms are large, well appointed, clean and comfortable. The restaurant manages our group very well and the food is well above the standard which one expexts in the Lake District. Our group has booked a return visit in September, need I say more.
