Just got back from a tour with Traven and Patience. It was one of the best if not THE best excursion I have ever been on. Even my husband who rarely gives a compliment, kept saying how much he enjoyed it!

Great accommodations. Really nice staff. Extremely clean as well. We had a semi — private room and it was perfect. HUGE bathroom with amazing shower.

No hassle, comfortable stay in Hilo I've camped at Arnott's many nights over the past 2 summers with groups of almost 30 and they always have everything we need for a comfortable stay. The facilities are always clean, the staff is knowledgeable of the island, plenty of seating in common areas and the TV room is great for watching Moana! Thanks for always host us!

A great home base to discover the Big Island from. It is a backpacker's lodge, as well as a hotel. The staff is great, and very knowledgeable, and the rooms are clean. There are cooking facilities, fridges, and A/C. Parking, Wi-Fi, coffee, travel info and hospitality are all included, and there is no "resort" fee. I stayed in the "Deluxe" room, which had private bath, and a "lanai" (porch). It was simple, clean and quiet, and inexpensive. They offer lots of activities, or give info so you can do it yourself. I went on the star gazing trip to Maunakea, with Tia, who knew about the culture, ecology and history of the island. She was great. It rained, and the stars were not out, but got some great photos of the sunset with the observatories in the clouds. The Hilo-side of the Big Island is a tropical rain forest, so it rains! The trip was moderately priced (considering it is Hawaii: gas is $4.00/ gallon! ), and included several stops along the way, in a big 4X4 van.

Don't do the sunset/star glazing tour! Waste of time and money. Only got to see sunset. Too much overcast. The visitor station even closed due to no visibility. I understand theu need to make money but they only delivered on half of what was promoted. We emailed them to see if we can get a small refund since they clearly didn't deliver what was promoted. They responded with you got to see the sunset so that is good enough. WTH? KARMA will come back around. I hope these place goes bankrupt. No joke. Terrible way to conduct business. Who ever does the customer service needs a reality check. You suck! Only get1 because of Tia the guide. Otherwise I wish I could give a negative points. You all have been warned. And yes I will copy and paste this review to every review site I can find.

Tourist only. Must have tickets to leave Hawaii or no stay. Legal or discrimination? OK looking from outside but… Greedy fools. Run like motel otherwise whether tent camping or motel part. Might as well go to a two star motel. BIG on their opportunistic tour guide service. $$$$$$ Rent a car, do your own thing. Camp at parks.

Clean accommodations and professional staff. This is a very fun environment, meeting people from all walks of life. Staying here is what you make of it. You can lay in bed all day or chat it up and make new friends from around the world. Rates are very reasonable and there simply isn't a better option for the money if you're staying in Hilo. Close to the airport and walking distance to the port. This is my third time here and I'm always satisfied with this choice. I dont even look for other places anymore. Bonus: there are some of the most beautiful hidden beaches in walking distance about a block away.

Very clean rooms, super friendly and competent staff. I like the location a little outside of Hilo near the beach in front of the beach in front of the beach-I like the best! Very quiet. With the rental car, accessibility is not a problem.
Top equipment also in terms of TV/s books (I didn't use them, but if you really don't know what to do anymore, it's taken care of here. )

Awesome Mauna Kea tour with Lauren! The summit road had been closed almost all week due to bad weather but we crossed our fingers and the road opened the day before our booked trip. We met Lauren and the 4WD bus at the visitor centre and while we had a 2WD car that couldn't have made it down safely anyway, I'm actually pretty glad we took the tour rather than doing it ourselves in a 4WD car as the road up is really bumpy and very long. Lauren was super informative and a great driver and we had all the time we could have wanted at the summit. 10/10 and we came home with some great photos.

Booked two tours with ARNOTT’S. Thanks, ARNOTT's made my fantastic trip experience. My tour guide David and Sally both are awesome tour guild, knowledgeable and made the tour trip so much fun. Unfortunately, the weather is bad, and I don't have much time to reschedule my tour for another date. David tried as much as possible to maximize our tour experience. Definitely will come back for Mauna Kea Summit tour with David again.

Great Place to Camp in a Tent with Showers, Laundry and Shared Kitchens. Rooms are Clean and inexpensive with Kitchens. They offer Adventure Tours and Bike Rentals.

A fantastic, budget friendly place to stay. Rented a semi-private room (shared bathroom and kitchen). The staff were friendly and helpful with lots of open shared areas.

We camped. A little expensive for a campsite (you pay per person and not per tent). The facilities were nice and the other guests were low key but friendly.

We stayed here for 5 nights as “campers” but still had full access to all facilities (kitchen, laundry, bikes, outdoor showers, bag storage, TV room, lounge, games etc. ) The girls who worked here were all very nice and helpful. The facilities were nice and you’re in keaukaha which is where all the best beaches are! We rented bikes a couple days and they weren’t awesome (no hand breaks) and had to be back by dark but that’s about the only thing that wasn’t perfect with the stay.

We added Airconditioning and now double glazed windows near parking areas so all guests get a great nights sleep.

Fantastic tour to see the sunset on the summit of Mauna Kea and subsequent guided exploration of the stars near the visitors center. Our guide, David was very knowledgeable, professional, interesting and passionate about this beautiful island and it's people. Would highly recommend.

Great little spot to stay. Comfortable places to lounge, cook, eat, etc. Phone calls and such are in specific areas so no worries on listening to that. Outdoor showers are always nice. Wi-Fi is quick if you need it.

We have stayed here twice now, 2016 and 2017, both time we splurged for the deluxe room with private bath, the communal kitchen, and both times we absolutely loved It! Everything is no frills, super clean and comfortable. The new A. C. Units are super, but you can't beat the outdoor tables, breakfast and coffee are so serene. We witnessed some good ol tropical rain 1 day, and high surf all weekend, complete with pounding crashing waves, you can hear it from the room! We will keep coming back year after year. Eventually we will go on a tour.

What you can / cannot / should / must do peaks at you from every imaginable corner. However; this business is run with a very good heart and a firm structure, and offers tremendous value for the $$ you spend here. My group of 4 used the campground for two nights. The amenities included (fully equipped kitchen, hot shower, TV room, board games, free parking, Wi-Fi, lounge with dining tables or sofas) made it a luxury stay on a tight budget.

We enjoyed the place, Best location to many. Beaches. Clean and practical without frills. Enjoyed the birds in the pond behind us, a full orchestra Definitely recommend it.

Great place to stay if you're on a budget and looking for the cheapest possible option which is camping here. You probably could camp in one of the beach parks near here but you risk being bothered or fined or something. Here you get Wifi, TV, a place to meet people, a hot shower, laundry access, a safe place to leave luggage, etc. Not luxurious but significantly more so than outright camping.

Did the trip up Mauna Kea for the sunset and star gazing. Our guide, David, was so knowledgeable and, more importantly, passionate about the mountain and the island. Relaxed and fun tour, highly recommend.

Great place with exceptionally helpful staff and access to a serous of small beaches all within walking distance. Private room was a little small and it was a shared shower/toilet/kitchen but you should only be there for snoozing and morning snacks. Has camping facilities too should you have a tent with you. Bus stop right outside if you are without transport.

Wanted to say my fiancé and I had the best experience! Went on the Mauna Kea Summit tour and was hands down one of the best days of my life. Lauren was our guide, she was great! Very knowledge and kind! Love.

Great location really close to airport and easy to find (still recommend car). Friendly staff and handy facilities (bathrooms and showers for campers are outside and semi-private). Kitchens are closed at night for campers though, so keep that in mind if you need food or drinks after 10pm. Also booked discounted Mauna Kea Tour which was amazing with our stay (thank you Lauren! )

Great campground with a nice atmosphere! It is a little bit more expensive than other campgrounds, but the facilities are great. You pitch your tent on a grassy area, there are warm showers, free Wi-Fi and washing machines.

Great budget friendly place to stay, especially if you camp. I camped out two nights after a long travel day from San Francisco. It's $16 to camp out in their yard but comes with pretty good Wi-Fi is a large patio/table area. Outdoor warm showers and toilets with a small kitchen to use. Close to beach and nearby park. Far from town but you can easily catch the hele on into town and back if you don't have a car. Good stay :)

I made reservations with myranda. She asked for confirmation of arrival receipt and departure receipt. After that I was allowed to book my night. There's a fridge and microwave in you have your own kitchenette. I would definitely stay here with a companion or a friend. It's like a shared studio. The young lady that I shared the room with seedbed extremely responsible. There were a lot of frogs and flying termites when I was there. I guess it was mating season. Myranda is a good conversation and she makes you feel at ease. There was one flying cockroach that came in when I opened the door. Go figure. The hostel is really quite, nice and relaxing. Great location, its rural.

Stayed two nights (in a luxury room), was hardly there because of all the things to do on the island. Room was well appointed and clean. Kitchen is nice but it's also easy to get to lots of different restaurants. It's quiet. Only reason for not five stars is the bed was a little hard for my preference and they had body wash in the room but nothing to wash hair (I packed super light). Staff was friendly but we didn't see them much because we weren't there much. I'd go back.

WARNING : They are thief! Do not make a reservation to this hostel. We made an online reservation and we had never been contacted as the website mentioned it. Thus we went camping but they billed us anyway. We tried to discuss the issue with the manager but he was rude and disrespectful. Nothing was reimburse so we did pay 70$ for absolutely nothing… Trust me, do not go there or you might get rob just like us.

I spent great 3 days here. It was very comfortable to stay as it has a relaxed atmosphere and nice staffs! I joined a sunset and stargazzing tour which was held by this hostel. I was really sutisfied it and I got some good friend from all around world through this tour. And, you can swim with turtles in the beach 3-5away. If you prefer to enjoy your travel in calm, just book Arnott's Lodge!

Great setting and room amenities.

A simple hostel/ lodge on the edge of town. A car is necessary to get back and forth (though I suppose uber would work). I stayed in one of the private rooms and at night heard the ocean crashing against the rocks on the beach, frogs chirping and the frequent rain hitting the tropical leaves and I still regularly think of these sublime nights at Arnott's lodge.

Aloha to the whole team of the Arnott's Lodge! We spent 6 wonderful days, the Deluxe room was just perfect! We did extraordinary activity, including the national park of the volcanoes, observatories and the stars of the Mauna Kea and the discovery of waterfall, of Wapio Valley and the masaladas landscape! Mahalo from the bottom of the heart xxx.

Very friendly and chilled place to stay.

Great little place to stay. We had a deluxe private room. It had a personal bathroom, queen bed, fridge and ac unit. They also supplied free Wi-Fi, hairdryer, and extra pillows. Nice table inside and also outside your sliding door for coffee on the lanai. Community kitchen (shared by 3 other rooms) if needed. Community TV room if you need to watch your shows. Short walk to a beautiful beach. You can't beat all this for $80 I would definately recommend this to anyone staying in Hilo. They also have many other room styles for cheaper too (dorm like setting). Friendly staff.

1. When we took a cab and arrived at this place, it was in middle of nowhere, no any obvious bus sign, and the receptionist (white, with big cool ear hole) was talking on telephone and she ignored us for at least 30 minutes, because she knew it was difficult to call a cab at that time and the customers had no way out. When there were definitely empty beds available, however, she said they were fully booked and put us into open bed, which means beds in hallway where everybody walks by. We chose to forget about this because she later acted like friendly. Anyway, we were lucky to have a bed, better than die in the bushes of darkness, what else more could we expect? 2. When we decided to pitch tent at this place, we did not have enough blankets and we did not want to add new luggage since we already had a lot, so we went to front desk to borrow a blanket, but the front desk (white, heavy set) rejected to help because blankets were for "dorm guests only" and this creep place rains a lot, and no bus on that day, so we walked 12 miles to the mall just to buy a blanket, otherwise, we would be frozen to death in water at night. 3. We put our cup on their lounge table and 2 hours later it was gone, because the housekeeper (asian, heavy set) purposely threw it away while everybody even the person who checked in yesterday knew the cup belongs to us.

My sisters and I showed up on foot after having visited their site and giving them a call to ask them about their tenting accommodations and pricing. But when we arrived they suddenly required what they called proof of onward travel, I didn't see anywhere obvious or otherwise on their site where it listed this requirement, also no mention of it when we called and said we would be heading over. The lady was apologetic and we left without issue. I can't speak to whether it's a good place to stay or not since we weren't able to stay. Anyway, we wound up walking around all night (Starbucks, laundry, etc) since we couldn't get alternative accommodations in time. They have a right to run their business however they please, they just needed to properly apprise potential guests of their requirements. I know a one star rating is harsh, but so was last night. It's in a sensible location. The rooms come with a fridge toilet and kitchen. The electronics in the lodge are old and are wearing out.

Great place, friendly staff. $30 for a dorm, $12 for a spot to put up your tent which includes access to showers and the kitchen and all other amenities.

Affordable nightly stay from tenting to individual room all with kitchens. Great tour options and discounts. However, there was thick blood spots on my sheets and roaches inside. They do have roaches spray.

I was fortunate enough to stay at Arnotts Lodge for 4 nights this month and had a fantastic time! The rates are extremely fair, lovely staff that make you feel part of the ohana (Hawaiian family) and knowledgeable and enthusiastic adventure guides. I'll certainly be back — a big thanks to Doug and his staff for making us feel so welcome and providing such great value. Can't wait to come back and visit! We experienced 3 fantastic tours through Arnotts, again at excellent value. Mauna Kea sunset, waterfalls and the lava hike. Thanks again for a terrific stay! Maholo.

This was very nice. The owner also arranges tour groups to island sites, such as Volcano Nat' Park. The bike rentals are on site and easy. The great swimming beaches are blocks away.

Arnotts lodge it was fair price and depending on the season you get flowers and birds outside. My friend and I both rented a room there and it was good we had a livving room and kitchen to use. There was also a gazeebo with a large screen TV that played movies. The swiming area wasnot even two minute walk away. I recomend arnotts lodge for those on a budget or those that don't stay in all day long.
