Beautiful 1780's home turned into a BNB just minutes walking distance from historic downtown Charleston. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large high ceiling rooms. Very clean.

Amazing historical bed and breakfast. The character of the house was exactly what I imagined. Breakfast was tasty, fresh and homemade. Close to everything downtown so we walked everywhere. Super friendly ghost on the third floor. We will be back!

The staff were wonderful! So helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was yummy with a good selection. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend!

Ordered some hot dogs and the came out cold, told the staff and they acted like they didn’t care. Won’t be back. Sorry south slope! Psh.

The personnel are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed afternoon tea, and the best part to us is that they are dog friendly. The room is nicely furnished — we stayed in the carriage house. There are Keurig coffee pots in several locations, very nice for a chilly afternoon.

We were greeted by Tyler who made you feel at home. Beautiful home tucked away but close to everything.

Quiet and peaceful! Attentive staff and clean rooms. I adore the homey atmosphere, they definitely have a hidden gem here. Great area for shopping and fine dining.

Great location, helpful friendly staff. Most importantly the BARKSdale Inn is very dog friendly. Lots on nice Bed and Breakfast touches (beware of the cookies, they are very good). Nice Breakfast served until 10 different things each day. They also have a little appetizer from 4 to 6 in the afternoon. We stayed in the cottage house in the back. Nice size rooms and coffee service in hallway as well as in the main building. Free parking in a town with little of it. Had a great stay.

My husband and I stayed here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Blair was awesome and very helpful the night we checked in. She gave us lots of tips for the surrounding area. The young woman in the morning for breakfast was awesome. She was very attentive. I would love to stay again.

My husband and I love this place. Truly representative of southern hospitality. Great location. Park your car for the stay and everything is within walking distance. If we visit Charleston again, we will stay here again.

The location is great and the staff is very helpful. Parking included in the stay was great Our room was very small and not very comfortable. The breakfast could be a better. Not as good a selection as another inn we have stayed in before. Overall, good, but not great.

Cute house, helpful caretakers, a bit creaky if you want your privacy, but hard to beat area and nice breakfast — they also have the time which I was unable to try. Overall a good value for the money.

The Inn is extremely cute and the entryway and lobby is very well maintained. Friendly staff as well. We loved that our dog could join us at breakfast time in the lobby. Only issue was the sim lighting in the room, the bed which sort of sinks in the middle and bathroom flush and shower which needs a bit of updating.

This was a lovely place to stay and great location. Comfy beds and great breakfast. Staff were really friendly too. The only thing to complain about is the noise! You can hear everything as our room was by the front door and could hear people coming and going very early in the morning. On our last morning there was a dog whimpering constantly outside the front door.

A lovely B&B. The room was clean and a had all the conforts you may expect. The air conditioner worked very efficiently.
The inn's manager ms Taylor, was gracious and very accommodating effortlessly. She and her aides were making sure that everything was alright. The breakfasts every morning had fresh sweet fruits, cereals, breads and sweets, the coffee was great. There was always fresh lemonade and a cool pinot noir on the afternoons. My wife and I have good memories, we'll be happy to come back. Thank y'all!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very quaint and charming. It was nice to have personal service and service. The breakfast and afternoon snacks added to the experience. The location is wonderful, as well. Thankful that pets were also welcome! ❤

We booked a room at the Barksdale House Inn last week. We had to pay 193$ for one night. When we entered the main house we smelled mold. The dining area had cereals on the floor. We had room 13 at the carriage house. Felt like a rip off. We couldn't get a connection to Wi-Fi, cause the modem was at the main house. The place was louzy and humid. The bed was really awful. Bad matrass, paint of the headboard was gone. In the morning there was no hot water available to shower. When arriving at 10 for breakfast those same cereals were still on the floor. Never again. For those 193 dollar we could have stayed in a decent and comfortable room somewhere else Think the management really needs to try their rooms and beds themselves…

Location is great. Right off of king street and various bars and restaurants are within walking distance. Room was ready promptly at 3pm. Afternoon sweet tea and small snacks are served at 4pm. Breakfast is also provided 730 to 10am. Coffee tea berries yogurt cereal eggs and bacon. Great service. Staff leaves at 8pm but you are given a number should you need anything.

Love this place. Located on a quiet street but within walking distance of everything. Breakfast is filling and with plenty of options. Our room was number 3 and was cozy and comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

By far the best place I have ever stayed in Charleston after visiting regularly for 15 years. Staff was absolutely wonderful, food was delicious, house was absolutely gorgeous. Not one single complaint! The staff evem encouraged us to bring our dog on our next visit. Will definitely be making this a regular place to stay.

Warning! Do not stay here! While here it appears our luggage had been pilfered through while we were out by cleaning staff. Now missing, are items that cannot be replaced! Waiting to see if the inn management is going to assist with making an attempt to identify the person responsible. Update: So far, no one has returned our call to inform us of their findings after searching our room. I will keep all posted as this progresses.

Lovely staff, excellent snacks at tea hour, truly enjoyed the history and experience.

My fiancé and I went here in the Spring of 2016 and we can’t say enough good things about this place. First of all, the hospitality was like nothing we’d ever experienced: afternoon tea time with sherry, homemade continental breakfast, scented towels, and so much more. The staff was so friendly and the rooms were very clean. It was really cool to stay in this historic inn and I have already recommended this place to a few of my family members. The location is superb and really close to the fun parts of Charleston. This is true Southern hospitality. I’d give it an 11 out of 10.

I have been staying at the Barksdale House for many many years. I love Charleston, SC and everything that it has to offer in the downtown area, and one of my favorite parts has been staying at this B&B; however I have watched this hot spot slowly decline over the past few years. We recently stayed for the Spoleto arts festival in early Summer 2014. Upon arrival as we walked in the back entrance we noticed shingles were missing from all around the walkway beside the fountain, it was easy to trip, and someone just left the shingles stacked in piles next to the stairs. The garden or lack there of hardly existed, much less was in its prime. We stayed in room a small red room on the 3rd floor. Upon walking in our room everything seemed dingy and there was a very musty odor. Curtains were tattered, boards in the bathroom looked rotten, paint was peeling off the ceiling, inlay and chunks were missing from the ornamental wooden bed frame. The air conditioning unit in our room barley worked, and the one on the floor below us ran so loudly that the whole floor shook. The room did have a refrigerator, but if you turned it down low enough to keep your beverages cold it made a loud squealing noise. A refrigerator was available in the "community" kitchen, but they have now started locking up the kitchen at night. Also if you were expecting breakfast in bed that is also a thing of the past.

The Barksdale House Inn is a great bed and breakfast in old historic Charleston. It's a charming building with lots of character, and the fact that it's pet friendly but still clean is extremely important to us. I overheard some conversation between employees that would indicate that they are in the process of working on some updates and improvements, which is great to know. Like any historic home, it has some quirks like squeaky floors, dim lighting in some places, etc, that might bother some folks. Just know that you're not staying in a newly built or renovated hotel — it's a historic building. That comes with lots of character and comfort, but not a lot of quiet. The staff was friendly and as helpful as they could be, but I think the owners don't help them to be as good as they could be. With more information, resources, and service training, they could be even better. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday was excellent in January of 2014 when we stayed — a nice selection and quite delicious.

Not what we expected. Bed not so good, morning staff rude. Just wanted coffee and they made a big desk about breakfast and their day started at 7:30.

Very lovely home and staff. Perfect location, easy access to king street and lots of restaurants. Wonderful value. We will be back :).

Great location, very clean, tastefully decorated and a good breakfast with stone ground grits. What more could you ask for. I highly recommend the Barksdale.
