Like all the other reviews (which we checked before booking) it's a basic BUT very clean and very well maintained place. What more would you want for the money. Its in a great location. Loads to do all walking distance from it.

Decent value for the price. Family run. Little things like the odd hole in a sheet aside, it's a decent place to send the night. Coffee is in the lounge. Our room had a microwave, small fridge, hair dryer, air conditioner, and heat lamp in the bathroom. The switch for the air conditioner was on the wall behind the desk, hidden by the lamp shade.

The location is perfect. It's close enough to downtown to walk or to take the Nike bikes that are nearby. It's nothing fancy, but it has good Wi-Fi, it's clean, and has functional air conditioning.

It's way nicer than it looks on Google but still slightly sketch, through the good in a pinch if you need a place to stay for a night or two but I wouldn't stay too long,

Ideal location in downtown area under 200$ but not a hostel. Microwave and fridge in room but no coffee maker. Shabby but clean, free parking for guests.

Exactly what we needed for our visit. Easy and convenient to check in and perfect location for the sights.

A good night's sleep after a wild party. The bed was clean, everything worked. My only complaint is that they were working on their pool, and it was noisy. But, I mean… that is to be expected when a company is working on their facilities.

Location was ideal, as it was a short walk downtown and had bars and late night food right next to it. Room was clean and cozy, although I wish they provided toothpaste. Service was accommodating and friendly, and even upgraded my room free of charge.

The best discount hotel in Portland. Anything better would be $50 a night more, and I'm not paying that.

I tried to book a room here for my boyfriend who was going to pay in cash, and I was going to leave my credit card on file for any incidentals. For some reason, the owner would not let us do this. I explained that he was not from this country and doesn't have an American bank account and still he refused and would not tell us why.

Extremely friendly staff, buuuut this is the loudest place I've ever stayed. Ever. I'll be up all night for sure the walls are paper thin, I can hear EVERYTHING. The train has come by twice, the person above me and next to me at watching TV, the other one next to me is having sex or watching porn loudly, and there it sounds like construction below me. You can hear, horns, sirens, yelling, and bass all night long from the road and sidewalks along with the late night busy traffic. Kinda shaddy that it's so full and the parking lot is basically empty but whatever, Portland. It's comfortable if you pack your breakfast, dont mind not having your coffee until you're checking out, bring ear plugs, and don't mind walking to the bathroom sideways.

Very friendly staff. Clean room. Shower, no bath. Very noisy part of town, with very little soundproofing. Older building, but not a bad hotel. Would stay again if I am in town by myself, but my wife couldn't deal with the noise.

Great stay. Basic but clean and comfortable. Desk staff very friendly and helpful.

Not too far from downtown. Clean. Smoke and odor free. The innkeepers are mature, helpful and friendly. One spent time discussing the best options to get to the Portland Airport.

It's alright if you need a place to sleep for the night. It's easy to tell that there was cheap contractor work. The lobby was nicely done but the rooms were done cheap. The room I stayed in had a nice king sized bed and a newer looking cabinet with some drawers with a microwave and mini fridge in it. The problem was here was about a foot of room to walk in between the bed and cabinet to get to the bathroom. The bathroom was small and the shower was claustrophobic and the venting fan didn't work. There was a closet area that was recessed and had about 3 feet of wasted space to get to the coat hangers. The room could use a better use of the space it has.

Great location. Rooms are very clean, but dated. Beds are unexpectedly comfortable for a budget hotel. Staff was very friendly and efficient.

Location is great for conventions and expos. Room was nice. The only issue was the sound leak from outside of the room. You can hear conversations outside of your room from the other side of your room.

The location of the hotel is awesome. It's near almost everything we want to to visit. Lots of restaurants and bars and stores. The only downside to this place are the rooms. Even though they are nice and comfortable you can hear almost everything that is going on in the rooms around you. The noises of the fridge and the heater at night didn't help either. Still an awesome location and place. Well maintained for the most part.

It was fine. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and professional, if not 100% helpful; we had an issue with the bathroom door knob not closing because the latch was stuck inside itself (which was not resolved over our 3 night stay, we had to put the trash bin against the door to keep it shut when in use), and when we wanted to borrow their printer there was some trouble logging into their computer (they didn't know the log in and the person who did know didn't answer their phone). They WERE able to help us when we forgot our safe combination, however, which was appreciated. The room was quite small, and the shower was pretty dismal to look at (the tiling was very poorly done). The walls are paper thin, you could hear someone breathing if they were outside your room door, and this coupled with the fact that the building is downtown made it a restless couple of nights (and there was construction going on right across the street to top it off). The room was clean and the cleaning crew came by to maintain it, the bed was pretty comfortable, and the heating/air worked well, but definitely not worth $105 a night, and internet was spotty.

I'm generally a some what picky person but for the price, location and generally helpful additude I would book again in the future as well as suggest to other's.

Our room was old and outdated. The bathroom was not very clean and the shower stall looked nasty. There is a nightclub next door and parking is difficult to find.

During my stay my car was hit and the vehicle that hit my car fled. After making the police report the police reviewed the footage of the hit and run. It turns out the cameras at the hotel are so blurry that they could not see anything. The customer service representative admitted that the officer would not be able to make anything out on the cameras because they were so bad. The service rep didn't even act surprised or like they cared. So I have a feeling this is something that happens frequently. The house keeping lady walked into our hotel at 6:45 in the morning desire the do not disturb sign on the door and the fact that we had booked the hotel for several nights. She stood in the doorway and made sure to get our attention and say oops and walk out. When we exited she said she thought we were gone for the day. This seems very sketch to me.

Reasonable prices. Good location. It's no 5 star but was clean and decent.

This was an ideal place to stay given the price and location. It was within walking distance of all the other Portland neighborhoods, and it gave us a place to sleep. The room and amenities were as advertised, clean, if not a little outdated. The neighborhood itself was alright — a little sketchy, but relatively safe as it seemed like it was a popular spot for college students to hangout for the evening and knock back a couple beers. Would definitely stay here again.

Not a bad place overall, and most affordable in the area. Beds are not very comfortable, soundproofing could use some work, but nice staff and decent location. Parking is easy, good sized lot. Rooms were clean, but it's no Ritz Carlton. Just a simple place to sleep for the night.

We got here rather late after a flight. It was a great place to sleep for the night. Comfy beds. Delicious pizza place nearby. Cheaper than other options nearby. Fun part of town to be in.

I stayed here for two nights with my husband and toddler. We were a little anxious about the hotel because it was drastically more affordable than every other hotel in the area. We shouldn't have been anxious! When we checked in the woman helping us was courteous enough to put us on the first floor to make it easier with our daughter, which I appreciated. The carpet, drapes, furniture in the room were all updated — the only "dated" item in the room was the bedspread, which, who cares? The closet area was also the perfect place to put a pack n play (which they provided, but bring your own sheet as they did not have that). There is a large mini fridge and microwave in the room as well. The bathroom was small, and the fixtures in the shower weren't in great shape, but everything was worked just fine. Again, for like $100-$200 less per night than other hotels (if not more) I am MORE than happy to shower in a small bathroom. The location is great and it was very easy to get everywhere we needed to go on foot or streetcar. We would absolutely stay here again if we were to return to Portland.

Excellent value for the price, but nothing super special. Would recommend it if you absolutely need to stay for the lowest dollar.

Towels are a little small but it's pretty cheap and has free parking which works well for me. Second time I've stayed there.

What we paid for. Close to our venue. A little dirty, but we were drunk, so whatevs.

Looking for something cheap and in a convenient location for my plans, definitely got cheap. Could hear the people staying above us walking around on squeaky floors, talking, using the bathroom… pretty much every noise they made up there. The worst part was the shower, hadn't been cleaned from the people who stayed in before us. Hairs all over it, stuff left over from their showers. The water would not stay a consistent temperature, very hot or very cold. Like other people in different rooms affected it by using water too.

This hotel is so beyond rude and disrespect that I don't even know what to say. We had food leftover from our breakfast that we didn't get utensils for. I called the front desk asking if they had anything that we could use, and the person at the desk was EXTREMELY rude. He told me that there was a convenience store at the corner that we could use, but didn't know if they had anything. I asked "you don't have any utensils that we can use? ", where he proceeded to tell me, "I may have something here that you can use that I bring in myself. " I told him "ok"… then the awkward silence presumed, where I waited for him to tell me if they had anything. But he didn't… he just sat on the phone… where I just proceeded to tell him I'd be fine and manage. After using one of their plastic cups to try and make a makeshift "spoon" and spilling it all over (see picture), I called front desk to try and get SOMETHING I could use. When they answered the phone, they said "Yes, again". I couldn't believe it! I told him that I was up here trying to use one of their plastic cups for a spoon, and wanted to know if they had anything. While I was trying to talk to him, he asked me to put me on hold… WHILE trying to tell him that I'm eating my soup with one of their plastic cups! I proceeded to tell him that this was not ok to treat someone like this, and that it would be going online.

Surprisingly cosy and clean room. Friendly service. No complaints.

Eastside Lodge hit the mark. I was looking for something simple, and inexpensive, for a group of 4, just needed somewhere too sleep. The rooms were a bit dated, but clean. Service at the counter was prompt and to the point. The streets were too noisy on the window side of our room, so we had to keep them closed, and the A/C unit was not functional (only real con we had). The lodge had included parking, but it was full, luckily street parking was not difficult to find (on a Friday night). I love the location of this lodge. Within walking distance of cascade barrel house, Burnside brewery, and near the end of the night, when breweries start to close, the Doug Fir is just across the street. Overall a good experience. I would book here again.

Owner Shawn is very nice and helpful. Hotel is old but clean.

Nice place to crash for the weekend. Provided free parking. Not much for breakfast and extras, but still avery accommodating establishment. Staff was very nice.

It was clean and cheaper than most but I wish they had a coffee pot in the room. The room was very basic but like I said most places wanted an extra $50-100 more.

Great location on Burnside and friendly service. The property itself seems to be a converted Travelodge… So there's that.

Older motel with ok beds and small bathroom. Owners are nice.

I stayed here primarily because of its location near the downtown and its reasonable price. And I made the right decision. It was a comfortable hotel. There were only a few drawbacks — the bathroom was a little small — but ok; there was no coffee/tea in the room, I had to walk to the main office to get it. There was no hair dryer but the manager gave me one when I asked for it. Otherwise, good location, good price, comfortable, free parking, free Wi-Fi. (no pool, no breakfast)

Above all, the price is reasonable. The rooms are basic yet adequate. Face it, you are not in Portland to stay in your room. I would stay there again.

Front Desk staff is super rude. When asked to leave a note for the manager regarding a cancellation, He refused and accused me of trying to talk him into doing something he's not supposed to do.

Honestly, I don't really understand the bad reviews this place gets. The staff have always been nice and accommodating, the rooms are clean and reasonably priced, and considering how close it is to inner portland, it's a real bargain for those trying to stay within a budget.

Not sure if the previous reviewer called the wrong number but the staff here is always super nice and I've dealt with all three of the front desk staff and I can't picture any of them being rude with a guest. This is a basic hotel with a great price considering the trendy location where the rooms across the street reach 200+/night on the reg. As a business traveler I've stayed here over 20 times last year and have never been disappointed in what I've payed for.

I've never written on a review online in my life because I didn't feel it offered fair results and tended to skew negative, but I can't help myself in this situation. I was headed to Portland for a wedding this coming holiday weekend and needed a last minute hotel for Saturday night. I called the Eastside Lodge at approximately 3:30 p. M. On the prior Wednesday and was greeted by a nice gentleman who mentioned they had a room available. I told him I would call back within the hour to confirm the reservation. I called back within the hour only to be greeted by an incredibly demeaning, crude, ignorant and insulting operator. I explained how I had called earlier and was looking to confirm this room. He replied, "I don't have any room for you. If you want to stay two nights, I have a room. " I then replied, "so you have a room, but you don't want to sell it to me because you have a two night minimum suddenly? " At this point, he got aggressive and started personally attacking my statement and then hung up on me. I called back and all I said was "Sir, are you the owner?, " to which he did not reply. I then said, "You need to learn how to treat prospective customers with respect" and he then replied very sarcastically, "I recognize your voice. Thanks for the lecture" and then proceeded to hang up on me. Again, I've never written a review online in my life, but whomever I spoke to on the phone is an embarrassment to this hotel, city and as a professional.

I hadn't ever been to Portland before. I made two other hotel reservations and cancelled both of them; one was way too far south, the other in a seedy-looking area. After seeing the surprisingly good reviews for a fairly cheap hotel, I decided to go with the Eastside Lodge. Sure, it's nothing special. If you're not looking for star treatment, this is perfect. Rooms are clean, staff is super nice. Checkout time was 11am — — we had a 7:20pm flight and they offered to hold our stuff for us. But I really just wanted to talk about the area it's in — — no one ever does that, and I wish I was able to find more information about the surrounding area. This is place is in a really cute location. Go to Sizzle Pie down the street. Amazing punk rock pizza with names like "Gene Parmesan" and "36 Chambers. " Cute little vintage shops all over. Really close to the bridge. We walked to downtown fairly easily. We always felt safe. Close to several bus stops so you can get anywhere else. I guess, if nothing else, this is a great place for a Portland novice on a budget. Oh, also, there was no hair dryer. I didn't bring one so I had to get a bit basic with hairstyles. And extra towels were in the drawer of the TV stand. Elevator is sketchy but it's fine. My trip was awesome, hope yours is too.

I have stayed at this hotel for years. The people who run it are super nice and helpful. I once needed to go to the post office and the gentleman owner drove me over there himself when my van was broken. Just wonderful people and they make my stay in Portland better. Sure it's an older place but it's always clean and they make you feel welcome. Far far better than that hipster dump across the street the Jupiter.

Love this place. The people at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beat. So the building is old. Who cares? If you're not expecting a Hilton, then this place is perfect. Close to downtown. Ten minute walk, but you could also bike. Or walk two blocks to the closest streetcar stop. I love this place and would definitely stay here again.

Our company and our friends have stayed at this hotel every time we come to Portland. It is cheap, and the rooms are a bit dated and smelly, but overall OK. The people who run this place are simply awful. Yesterday I went to book a room, and the person was rude, and hung up on me. The owner of our company called to also try to book a room, and they refused to take his credit card, and then hung up on him. He called back and asked for them to be professional, and was told ''That they didn't want to be professional, and that they didn't want us staying at their hotel''. They just lost an entire companies worth of employees staying there, which is about 30 — 40 nights a year. Good luck Eastside, you won't be open long with rude angry people running your business.
