Under construction so no, restaurant, breakfast, channels on TV not working, no facilities like gym, no water or bar to purchase beverages, so all-in-all not done at all…

Besides the novelty of being the former city hall of Binghamton, that's the only strong point of this disappointing hotel. I strongly recommend to avoid lodging here. My biggest criticism is their ADA noncompliance, as the building and rooms aren't accommodating for the disabled. The bathroom has only a standing shower without a full enclosure and toilet which is too low to the floor. The AC didn't function (hotel staff provided an oscillating fan). The bed was too elevated, which resulted in my partner having to sleep in a chair and I on the floor. The hotel staff did their best to remedy our issues. However, it just wasn't worth the valuable money or time.

So my wife convinces me a five day visit with her mother is a great idea if we stay in this cool historic building that has become the Grand Royale Hotel in Binghamton, NY. We entered through the back door clearly labeled as an entrance and walk into construction horror. Dust clouds, carpet rolls, etc. We get to the front desk to check in and everything from that point showed a real lack of care by the staff. Our room reflected that — water damaged ceilings, broken tiles in the bathroom, TV's that didn't work and one of the weirdest layouts. We had to call to get toilet paper after the half roll we started with ran out. Now, it may be that ongoing renovations will make this place what it could be physically, but the staff needs some renovation also.

It is in definite need of some upgrades but it is very homey. Lots of problems to start but when we actually did get there on our second night reserved it was ok.

Let me start by saying I’ve never written a bad review for a place before. This is the first time I’ve thought it was truly necessary to do so. My friends and I come to Binghamton every year during the first weekend of March. We typically stay at the Grand Royale because, while it is a bit run down, the previous owners were hospitable, the location is great, and the price point was pretty good. However, under the new ownership, while they have begun to market the hotel as a “resort and spa, ” the place was under serious renovation when we arrived — dry wall, dust, and construction materials everywhere, the bar completely empty, and the common areas completely unusable — none of which was mentioned by email or on their website. After check in, when getting to the room, we realized we were given the wrong one, a much smaller, cheaper room than we had paid for. When we looked for the employees to resolve, no one was to be found for a half hour. We dropped our bags off at the wrong room we were given, couldn’t use the broken toilet in the room, and missed our dinner reservations. The situation was resolved later that night. In the morning we awoke to find that we had no hot water. When this was brought up to the manager, she listened to my complaint while watching a Mariah Carey video on full blast on her laptop. Hours after asking her to call me on my phone when the situation was resolved, I realized I’d never get that call.

This hotel is like a grand old lady. There are remnants of her former beauty but she has cracks and blemishes now. I enjoyed myself emensly. Sure, I couldn't figure out how to work the microwave and I got locked in the room for a few minutes… but the place is clean and comfortable and more importantly it has charm. Faded, cracked charm but charm none the less. The staff was great. The hotel is right downtown and within easy walking to shops and food. It was inexpensive and would be good for a longer/working stay.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and I really like it. Mr. Benjamin at the front desk was so helpful with quick check in. He even made a call to Mr. Kishore (the Owner) to upgrade my room to a Deluxe King at no extra charge. I will definitely be coming back here next time.

I had family members stay there. The hotel located in the business section of Binghamton. Surrounded by Arts and Eateries. The staff at The Grand Royale Hotel were very accommodating in helping my family members with suggestions and recommendations of places of interest. The hotel is in the process of an upgrade, but remember Rome wasn't built in a day. Kudos to Benjamin & his staff for there involvement in trying to work at bringing up royalty back to Binghamton.

First we were given a room that someone else was already staying in. Once we got a new room, we noticed the following: Minimal hot water in sink. Hot/cold switched in sink. Door lock broken. Blood stains on sheets. 2nd key not working. Wallpaper peeling. The list goes on. Seriously just don't stay here. Pay the extra cash for something better.

Me and my friends had a great time staying here It is in all around great place and the people there are top notch. Especially the owner, he is a one of a kind gentlemen.

Besides the beautiful facade of the building and location to everything, there is little redeeming value. Beds were lumpy and one bed frame was so broken everything lent to one side. Shoddy​ craftsmanship everywhere. Barely kept up to any sort of standard. Not to mention the whole lobby and elevator smells like a hamster cage. Even the morning coffee, is more like brown hot water. If you're past your college years, do yourself a favor and go to a real hotel. Whatever profit they're making is clearly not being reinvested.

Stumbled across the place by accident late at night. The architecture and ambiance of this former city hall is wonderful. The staff are awesome. The rooms are not Ritz Carlton but I didn't expect that. It's a renovated city building that has been revitalized. I loved my room. It was spacious. The water pressure for the shower was excellent. The room was clean. It listed the Keurig as an amenity in each room there was no Keurig but there was fresh hot coffee at the front desk at all times. In all fairness, I didn't ask them for the Keurig. I'm sure if I did they would have brought one up. Will definitely be back. Kudos to Salim the manager on duty when we checked in, excellent customer service.

Randomly had to stay in Binghamton and picked this place based on the building. My wife and I checked in using Expedia and upon arrival to the hotel the manager upgraded our room to a suite. Room 608 was awesome. We had a very good time there. The room was clean, the sheets smelled very fresh, the jacuzzi tub was unexpected but a very nice experience, the bathroom was clean and upon morning realized we had an amazing view through the atrium. Some of the hotel styling was dated (very 70's) but still very nice. The manager had no problem letting us park a pickup truck with a tow dolly attached in the parking lot. I can't speak about the free breakfast since we ended up leaving rather late in the morning. Very conveniently located to a few nice restaurants. I will definitely be staying there again when we visit family up there.

If I could give 0 stars and leave a review, I would. This place was disgusting. I saw mold in a few places in the bathroom, the toilet was dirty from prior use and wasn't cleaned prior to my check in, the bathtub was also dirty, the suite had an old rug smell throughout, I mentioned my concerns to the staff at the counter and he appeared expressionless but said he would send up housekeeping to clean. When housekeeping came up, they didn't have any cleaning supplies, they simply asked "what's the problem? ". I then pointed every concern, which I believed would be obvious to members of a cleaning staff. They then took some tissue off the toilet roll and wipe some of the filth from surfaces and then said "see, now it's gone" The didn't use cleaning supplies, they literally wiped filth from a surface with a piece of tissue and considered that "enough". I was beside myself and just refused to sleep in a mattress where the standard of cleaning is that low. Since it was clear the room was cleaned prior to my arrival, I refused to sleep in a bed that, for all I know, was slept in by prior guests and never changed or cleaned. This place was the worst. This place should be inspected by health inspectors and shut down until fixed. By the way, there was mold in the bathroom, that is just gross, unsanitary and they owners need to take a hard look at their business strategy if they want to make the grand royal a success.

Great people are really kind felt real confortable here there are bars and good places to eat all around the area too.

The worst. This place was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in. Mold on the shower curtain. Stains on the bedding and floor. No on sight maid service. Had to go buy our own cleaning supplies to clean the bath room. And. When you expressed your issues they didn't act as if they even wanted to talk to you… they did change the shower curtain after 1:00 pm the day after we complained. They did say they would adjust our bill & took $25.00 off I paid $10.00 on the cleaning supplies I purchased alone. I do not recommend staying here until a lot of improvements are done…

Incredibly weird hotel. The owners were hard to work with, my deadbolt didn't work, saw ants in my bathroom, and they fired their best employee and made him keep working a few extra days. Not to mention they recently built a nightclub in the basement that makes sleeping on the second or third floor actually impossible. Would not recommend.

Stayed at this place, in there presidential suite. Staff is extremely friendly. Had some complications with the Room, And their managers resolved immediately. Will definitely stay here again. And highly recommend this place to my friends.

This hotel is very old and not well maintained. It's very hot in hallways and elevator. Our room had towels with what appeared to be blood in them. Staff was reluctantly helpful. Staff didn't know the answer to any questions including if HBO was provided. Binghamton is a charming lively place, but stay somewhere else.

This is the worst hotel I've ever been in my life. I wouldn't call it a hotel honestly because the value of what you get is even less than what you get in a motel. First the staff doesn't know the basics of customer service, it took 25 mins to get to our room because the key wouldn't work, after two trips to the front desk for attempts to try new keys they finally sent someone to unlock it for us, throughout the back and forth the staff was very cold, unempathetic, and unapologetic. When we finally got to our room we discovered that someone broke into the room before as the internal lock was broken off and the door chain was ripped out! We felt unsafe as what would stop someone else from breaking in or even the same person, so I went to the front desk and said politely and displaying worry: "the lock is broken in my room and I don't feel safe staying in my room, please give me a different room. " The staff said:"people get drunk and do crazy things sometimes, no one is going to break in, we are fully booked and if you don't like it you can leave. " It is new years eve and I had 10 friends staying in the hotel to celebrate around the town as a group so I didn't want to leave my group and decided to block the door with a cabinet. Some of our rooms were not clean, and the shampoo and the lotion containers in the bathroom in some of our rooms were half used and the toilet paper roll was too, so I really didn't know if I can trust using the cups they have in the room.

Interesting hotel with an old world charm. Room was comfortable, big bed, a little on the firm side, but clean. Front desk service was friendly. Free Wi-Fi was fast and easy to access. Keurig machine in room along with mini fridge and microwave. Bathroom was clean, but there was a strong cigarette smell in the bathroom that would not clear out. Breakfast was a little lackluster. Overall, well worth the price of the stay with the Groupon that I had.

I stayed in room 407 on the forth floor. This hotel is extremely under maintained. Floors, walls, and ceilings are dirty. The 4th floor had water constantly dripping onto the carpet which by the end of my stay had soaked the carpet dripping now down to the third floor. The elevator is in dire need of maintenance. The rooms are extremely outdated. The back drops for the lights in the hallways are just pieces of thin plywood cut into shapes which are themselves very poor. I've seen many places where wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The gym is only a cheap treadmill and an old elliptical. The "Free" breakfast is a waffle maker and watery orange juice. I would not recommend this hotel for extended stays. Though if you need a place to sleep it can suffice. The rustic look is all that this hotel has to offer.

Outdated inside and out… Not in a good way. Indifferent costumer service. Overall dirty and old appearance. Stay elsewhere… Furniture lay out in rooms is random and out of place. I had the top of the line suite… No outside window.

The night staff was very friendly and helpful. The floor I was sleeping on was incredibly warm since I imagine they don't keep the ac running outside of the rooms because of costs… But the room was very clean.

Absolutely charming: hotel has lots of character and management was both professional and accommodating, going the extra mile to make me feel welcome and cared for.

We had an amazing time at this beautiful antique vintage hotel it had a upstairs nd downstairs we pretty much stood at the suite room 609 may 27, 2016 celebrating our 3yr marriage anniversary ❤ thank u to all the staff u guys were awesome!

The event room on the 45th floor is where I was, exceptionally clean and looked amazing.

Very charming hotel with extreamly nice staff.

Was not in my room for not even 5 minutes I was disgusted! Was unhappy with my room everything was old! Couldn't sit down and relax because chairs were just falling apart. The tub was gross. The rugs stinked. The shades on the window were dusty, it's just so much to explain! Just completely gross, and that is just the beginning. Customer service there? I don't even want to get started on that. Does NOT exist at this place. The owners are VERY rude and very hostile. Never will I ever step foot in that place again.

The room key is a domino's ad, the "breakfast" is a waffle machine and powdered milk with weak drip, the bed was made with the sheets on top of the duvet instead of the correct way around, the bedroom sizes are inconsistent. The building itself is interesting (historic municipal building) and it is centrally located, which are plusses.

We got in late, I had to clean the tub because it was so nasty. I will never go back again. Waste of money.

This is my go-to hotel when I'm in the Binghamton area on business! You can't beat it. Room rates are the lowest I've ever seen and the hotel itself is beautiful! Originally this building was the City Hall. The owners are super nice and are planning on opening a French restaurant in the next couple of months. I can't wait to go back!

Close to being a 4, I'd like to give this a 3.5. Pros: Close to busses, Rolando's Diner (cheap/decent food), near many craft beer destinations, price is decent. Hotel has a unique feel to it. Cons: Continental breakfast was all carbs and fruit, no channel guide Overall this is a good place on a budget. The hotel is unique in design and the rooms are clean. I stayed on a Monday so I had no noise issues.

Stayed on Saturday night. The street with all of the clubs and bars is the same street and even on the 6 floor it was very loud. The rooms are very, shall I say, European? And the whole place was old. Finally, I was reserved a king and got at best a double.

Not in the best area, overpriced, and the rooms were small and uncomfortable. They also overcharged me for the bill. I called to have it taken care of and the manager literally yelled at me over the phone and then hung up on me. I'm still waiting for my refund from corporate Clarion. Perhaps I was just an unfortunate guest, but I would never stay at this hotel ever again. On top of that little mishap, the toilet in my room ran and randomly flushed all night, the rooms are poorly lit, and the beds are uncomfortable. Clarion should bring in someone to fix this place up, it could be amazing, however, the current management is falling behind. Just a warning to any through travelers like myself.

The hotel itself has stately architecture, but that's all it has going for it. It was dusty and dirty, the bathroom door was eskew and everytime I shut it the door hit the door frame. The breakfast was horrible. By the time we got down there at 9:20am everything was picked through. Breakfast went until 10am. The trash was piled high in the cans, there were no bowls left so I ate my oatmeal in a cup, and the coffee was empty. When we told them there was no coffeeleft the lady shook it and said, "There's still coffee in there. " My friend then said, "Try getting it out. " She pushed the button and nothing came out. She went to make it, or so we thought, but it was never reflled. So my friend did not get her coffee. We sat there for 15 minutes watching families come and go, looking disgusted at the mess they saw. No one ate anything, as we had gotten the last of the bagels and they still had not replenished the waffle mix or fruit, etc. When we checked out we saw the coffee pot with a full pot of freshly made coffee, that they never brought back the the breakfast area. I simply said, "Oh, there's the coffee. " Oh, we saw a lady and her four kids in the hallway. She told us that they put them in separate rooms on separate sides of the floor because they didn't have adjoining rooms. We had just checked into our room 20 minutes before, which was right next to the mom's room. We told her we would happily switch, but she declined our offer.

My husband and I were so pleased with our stay at the Grand Royale. We loved our room — spacious and comfortable — and appreciated the convenient breakfast and special touch of fresh cookies in the late afternoon in the lobby. We loved the location in downtown Binghamton — an easy walk across the street for casual dining, surrounded by a showcase of historic buildings with outstanding architecture, and a short walk to the Forum Theatre and Artists' Row. The hospitality was excellent.
