My wife and I stayed at the Elms waterfront cottages this summer and as soon as we entered we were unhappy with the extremely poor construction of the unit, which was rickety and flimsy, and the stove had much dry spilled old food beside and under it, and since we decided to leave early, because the place was extremely overpriced, the owner was quite upset and very visibly avaricious. One of the beds had a broken post and the wheel had only been propped up to appear intact, when my wife was on it it fell on its side — she ended up sleeping on the futon. When we left, immediately the email address we had given him began receiving hundreds of spam mails and we are certain that these people sold our email address to spammers to make up for their perceived loss of our stay. We also have since then begun receiving dozens of unsolicited catalogs and spam by USPS, and we also suspect The Elms as being the one selling our address for that. We have never before been spammed like this. We remember thinking that the main selling point of this place is the lake, and their website is very pretty and misleading. But know that if you stay here, you are at risk of having your information sold to spammers, and you will pay way too much for a very poor and dirty place to stay. We are generally the kind of people who don’t give negative reviews, and won’t complain for things we know aren’t deliberate, but we do wish to warn others of this place, because the website it has can fool others like it did us. If you might be needing lodging in the area, we suggest at Saratoga Springs the Gideon Putnam (where we ended up staying) is marvelous and much less expensive.
