Went in with two friends — one visiting from Canada, who wanted a real New Mexican margarita. We sat at the bar, tried to order drinks, but the waitress had a problem with my ID. It did/does have a slight crease in it, when it went through the washing machine, but I’ve never had any problems with it anywhere else (airports, bars, etc). She told me she couldn’t serve me, but agreed to ask the manager if he could make an exception. She was very nice. The manager, on the other hand, was not. He told me my card was “suspicious”, and demanded to see everyone else’s IDs. Theirs had nothing at all wrong with them — one from Canada, the other from New Mexico, like mine. When he came back, the manager said he refused to serve any of us drinks, and then promptly walked away without another word and before I could get even a word out. I’m 25 — I understand, I look young, though not THAT young. If he had a problem with my card, because of the crease, I would have understood. He could have been polite about it, told us it was simply the policy, and I would have gotten an ice tea or something without a fuss. I get it, you have to be careful. Instead, he was not only horrendously rude for insisting I was using a fake ID (seriously? At a classy hotel bar? And insisting the manager look at it? ) but he kicked out me and my two friends, publicly embarrassing us and leaving without a word. There was nothing wrong with their cards whatsoever, and mine has never been a problem before or since. I have been to this establishment before with family, with the same slight damage to the card, and never had any issue. I will not be returning, and I hope the owner considers re-educating their staff on how to handle this situations. Very disappointing.
