Reviews of Magnuson Hotel Clearwater Beach 2*

It's a mom and pop place. One of the few still left on Clearwater Beach. Great if you don't want to stay in the bigger more expensive hotels on the beach. Has a nice pool for sitting and having fun with the family, and watching the kids play. Everything is within walking distance. The beach is rite across the street and the restaurants, gift shops are all next door or a few doors down. They have a small but quaint ice cream shop right on the property. With hand made ice cream, made fresh daily. Awesome for when you leave the beach at the end of the day. Especially, on those steaming hot and humid days that Florida is famous for. Convenient all the way around. Perfect for family vacations. Especially if you're traveling on a budget. The place is a little old and somewhat on the rustic side. Some of the rooms could use some paint. But, it's well worth the convenience.

Looks can be deceiving. My first room the safe was broke so couldn't lock up valuables, My second room had a unclean bathroom with black stuff on toilet and floor, the third room had bed bugs. My credit card was charged twice. The location was good, the pool looked nice.

Andrea Humsik

I would have given it 5 stars if the pool was open past sunset and breakfast was more than muffins and juice. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Location is great.

The place is dated, but very clean. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Pool is large and goes to 9ft. Rooms are large. Location is excellent. Continental breakfast is included, but thats just a muffin and juice. Can't beat the price for what you get in this location. Overall it beat our expectations.

I just stayed a week at the Magnuson in Clearwater Beach. It was a great vacation. Hotel was very clean & staff were great. It has great views, excellent location & is reasonably priced. Will surely stay there again.

The hotel itself was clean. It has a pretty nice pool. Even if you book with them they still make you pay $15 a night for 2 people with an extra person its $25 a night which is kind of outrageous. Especially if you're staying 3 nights or more. Other than then I'd say its worth the price. Would book again

This place is great! Kathy at the desk is amazing, Ralph the maintenance man and a great guy as well. Stay there with the family every year. If you go to stay in the room all day then you can nitpick everything. We stay 10+ days each year and won't go anywhere else. For 200+ a night stay across the street! We go to see the beach and only rent rooms to sleep not live. We never had a problem with any employees or maid's. See you in October Kathy. Z family. We always get 3 rooms on the 4th floor. Love it love it. See you soon.

Rating it a 5 because of the maintainance man. Our AC ran out of antifreeze super late at night and he came over to fix it, extremely friendly guy. Wifi doesn't really work which is a bummer. But other than that the rooms are good a pretty. They're also really big.

The gentleman at the front desk was very nice. We weren't a huge fan of having to pay for parking on top of already paying over $100 for the room but it wasn't that big of a deal. The first room we were given was AWEFUL! It smelled terribly of cat pee and mold. It sent my allergies into full effect within 5 minutes. My fiance went and discussed the room with the man at the front desk. Although they couldn't refund us, he did upgrade us to a much better room, however after our first impression being that room I had a hard time sleeping without checking for bed bugs and such because the first room was so gross. We skipped on breakfast because of the lack of cleanliness. Over all… just ok by the time it was all said and done

The Magnuson Hotel is the one of the most affordable places at Clearwater beach. I have read not good reviews about it, but personally I was satisfied with it. What you can expect from 2-3 star hotel. Room was clean, hot water was all the time, furniture was okay. Breakfast is just snacks and yogurt. Also it has big yard and pool with chairs. If you're student and you want to get vacation at cheap price this place is for you. The best thing about hotel is the location — the beach was in 2-3 min from hotel.

Terrible customer service‼‼ I booked a room over the phone for my daughter’s prom night. When she went to check in they told her the reservation was for the previous night. Not only did they turn her away they also charged me for the entire amount! When I called they said it was my fault. When I asked them why it couldn’t have been their fault they said because they don’t make mistakes. I’ve worked as a hotel manager for many years at resort properties and this isn’t how to treat people.

Very rude staff. The woman at the front desk didn't even bother to look at us while we were checking in. Worst staff I've ever seen. Also, don't pick up this hotel for the free "breakfast", the options consist of three giant bowls with yogurt, pudding and gross cakes in ice THAT'S IT. There is not even a designated breakfast area, it's just in the front desk. They shouldn't let them advertise it as breakfast. Rooms were clean but extremley outdated. The Wi-Fi barely works. Location is great.

Abe Ibarra

This hotels front desk is soooo insanly rude. I called to ask a quesion and I get yelled at for asking it. Definately would not wanna deal with them.

Derek Keeton

We had a wonderful stay. The location is fantastic. All three gals at the front desk were awesome, especially Michelle. Thank you so much.

If I could put no stars I would! The hotel staff was terrible! I shouldn't say all of them because I spoke to a very nice lady when I was in a sticky situation and needed a hotel. But when she left I had to speak with another guy. I was with 3 other people and 3 out of 4 of us were 18. He started yelling at us telling us we better be quiet and not have other people in the room and was discriminating us just because we are young and it was spring break. (I'm 18 and not a crazy kid at all) so he was wrong for that. Anyway, he refused to give us the room after knowing one friend was 17 and started yelling at us refusing to give just me and my friend a room. And accused us of lying. And was very rude. I work in customer service and I don't care how bad the customers could be you do not talk to them that way. There are way better hotels you could stay at. Do not choose this one.!

Overall a very unpleasant experience. The rooms were dirty and many of the appliances were broken. On top of this the management staff was extremely rude, being probably one of the least helpful and most unpleasant I have ever encountered. My advice is to book absolutely any other hotel in Clearwater

Older hotel, overall clean, just had an incident with a stranger UNLOCKING MY DOOR and if I hadn't had the lever lock hooked, he would've barged in. Called to inform the front desk that other cards must be getting keyed like my door. A little while later, same guy started banging on my door! I slide the night stand away from my door (added security from earlier attempted entry) and open the door to some foreigner who evidently was confused with his room assignment… is staying right next door. I gave him the stink look then slam my door, called the front desk again to get their keying and this foreigner straightened out… this all occurs between 11 and 11:30 pm. Room okay but block all doors and have your brass knuckles handy.

My family went to Clearwater for the first time right around Christmas, we stayed in the suites, the view was amazing, the staff was so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to book our next stay

Hated every minute I stayed. Was celebrating my 21st at my favorite beach and got locked in a bathroom twice and after they took 45 minutes changing the knob, my mother got stuck. Bottom step fell apart. My main doors handle fell right off. Cockroaches behind the bed. Rude ass staff during the day. Parking in their own lot is not free. Space in the room was the only nice spot. I requested a beach view and literally viewed other rooms across the pool. I demanded my money back and got one night back, which was $140 by the way. Stay away.

Do not be fooled as the location of Magnusan Hotel on the beachfront if you have not been there. Located at 421 S. Gulfview BLVD, Clearwater Beach, FL. 33767 is 14 miles from the beach. They lead me to believe when making reservation I would be staying on the beach front, however when I arrived I was 14 miles away from the beach. Please note, the magnusan hotel on the beach is located on 229 cornado ave. Clearwater florida!

Stayed here for just 1 night as a small get away near the beach. We loved it. It is an old hotel and you can tell they are renovating it. It is not a Hyatt by any means but it was clean and comfortable. The beds were impeccable and the bathroom as very clean. It was the best nights rest we have had in a long time! You literally just have to cross the street to go to the beach and Pier 60 is walking distance. The staff was SUPER nice and they gave us a free parking pass and even extended our pass the next day (after check out) so we could walk to breakfast and then get our car. Had they not done that, we would have had to pay for parking for breakfast. We will definitely be back.

Richard Rich

5 star for the staff but the rooms need help. Although very clean the smell of cat was bad. But right next to the beach awesome view and great savings. If all you need is a bed and great staff for good price Magnuson is it.

We went to Florida for 2 weeks stayed in various hotels this was the worst one by far. Ceilings were practically caving in from water damage. The sink was stopped up and the staff was extremely rude. I would not recommend anyone stay here. Warning: do not stay here!

This hotel is literally falling apart. The bottom step on the concrete staircase fell off. Everything is rusting out. Our room was clean but had no decorations on the wall and the bathtub had been painted. We also heard someone try to forcibly enter our adjoining door in the middle of the night. The beach is ridiculously crowded and filthy. Broken glass and garbage everywhere. It also stank like sewage. Will never come back to Clearwater again. Panama City Beach has far superior beaches. We had to pay for parking even though the Magnusen website says limited free parking for one vehicle. We were very disappointed and left two days early.

Roman Mamnev

Room is clean but smelled like smoke. Broken door handles. Cheap breakfast. You have to pay $15 for parking.

Brian Lollar

Conveniently located, friendly staff, clean rooms, sparkling pool.

Lily Polzin

Had a great time. The rooms were clean. Nice restaurant next to it.

First when we come, there is construction. Mess all over. Breakfeast is cheap. Staff is not helpful or respectful. Too old. Maids are okay. Tub clogged 3 days — no one unclogged it! BEDS ARE SO BAD! IDK if you can even call it breakfeast. Its like a cheap motel. I would cry if I was in a standard room. Sink leaks. Pool is small. For all the people here. LOUDD! Old lift. It takes forever to get to 4th floor. You could hear the elevator in our room. Sagging rust. On the refridgerator. Discusting. In the pool — on the sides like where it says 4ft, etc. There was so much filth that I could write with it. Channels are bad. Internet can't even work. Only good thing was the beach was like 1 block away. Discusting and dirty! Door is falling off of bathroom. Bathroom and carpet have stains all over. We thought the upgrade we got was going to be better than standard and I assume it was but still. Great view but construction is in our way. We could barely get out. They were in front of our doorstep. Staff stares at you like your from mars. TAKE MY ADVICE — NEVERRRRR GO HERE! The front desk staff upgraded us for $10. Had rain so beach was a LITTLE dirty. We saw a Manatee. I found a pearl under the sand. Everything was pretty much terrible. Gift shop was WAY overpriced. EXAMPLE (REAL) : There was a cup for drinking in the $1 store. They were selling the EXACT SAME thing for $10! Unreal. Staff was rude and unwelcoming. Maids were nice. Noisy. Elevator at midnight was loud.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I don't agree with some of the others complaints, pool is available, room was spotless, view of the beach was simply amazing, minus a few palm trees, but by no fault of the hotel. Its located directly across from the beach, and minutes from the Pier. There was an outside odor, but not to the point it's unbearable. Soft beds, new flat screens, and a good breakfast made our stay that much more awesome! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the water around here is a lil sketchy but that's no fault of the hotel. I'll definitely be staying here again as opposed to others in the area.

Joe Salazar

Pool not in service. Room old and dirty. Should've looked elsewhere.

Charlotte Cantrell

We never had to get in the car for our entire stay. There are tons of places to eat, immediately next to the hotel. Frenchy's and Crabby's for sea food, and there is a great place for breakfast and pizza for dinner. And of course, there is MacDonald's and an ice cream place. THE BEACH is across the street, which is the actual GREATEST part of this hotel. LOCATION to food, shops, and the beach was immediately next to the hotel. We got the 2nd floor family suite and enjoyed the windows on both sides of our room, as well as 2 beds so our kids had their own beds. Frig and microwave included. Raymond at the front desk was amazing and friendly.

Zoran Zdravkovic

Great location. Place is a dumpy! I'm not very picky but I would NOT stay here again. Place is somewhat dirty and smells. Dirty mattress in hallway all week. Room number fell off door and stayed on the floor all week. The garbage wasn't emptied before we checked in and the door handle would come off every time we opened the door. The pool area is not bad and the beautiful beach is right across the street but I would spend the extra money and stay someplace nice. Look at my pictures.
