The front desk staff was very nice and accommodating. The place is old and kind of run down, but clean. Close to shopping. Sonora is a fun little Highway 49 town and the Big Trees are up the road. For the money this is a good place to land.

Clean comfy digs and a pool. Right across the street from the fairgrounds. Maybe an easy mile to mainstreet.

The breakers popped twice for my room. The power was out for only a brief period of time but it happened. Half of the electrical sockets in the room didn't work. Regardless the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location of Gold Lodge is like a mile a way from the highway. Rooms are pretty shaded by the trees around the property. Service was good.

Rooms are pretty run down, need remodel, and I locked my key in the room and was not able to locate an employee to let me back in.

Room was satisfying but for the cost, maybe a little upgrade on the key in door affect. Price is probably higher based on it being veterans day weekend.

This motel is not horrible, but it's not the best either. The beds are comfortable and the linens and pillows are soft. The rooms are smallish, but that's not an issue. The staff is very nice and accommodating if you are patient and understanding. I saw people walk up to the desk and get all snippy (they probably had something go wrong and that's understandable, but you aren't paying much for these rooms, don't expect five star treatment) and so the staff was less accommodating. The bathrooms seem to be the only thing that hasn't been updated in this motel. They give of a terrible smell that does unfortunately waft through your room. We had two rooms on this trip and both rooms had this problem. The breakfast is passable and what you'd expect of a "Continental" breakfast. To the people saying that this motel is unsafe in any way, they are liars. There are many different types of people staying here from different socio-economic backgrounds, but never did I once feel unsafe. The lot and grounds are well lit and there's always staff present. Overall, it's a toss up if I'd stay here again, but it really isn't as bad as some are trying to lead you to believe.

Stayed at this hotel during the Detwiler fire and pretty sure they raised the price on us, websites had $89 a night we were charged $144 a night. Bring something to kill all the flies in your room and a clean set of sheets. The same people that hangout at the park nearby are the same that live in the back rooms.

Decent rooms. Nothing is terrible or falling apart, but it's not the most amazing place. It's what I expected for the price. Perfect for a quick stay or base camp for future travel. Wonderful service, the staff is very friendly. I would stay here again.

For the money, this is a great choice. We will return. It was obvious the owners are making efforts to upgrade the place, so ignore the old reviews. We were staying on the backside room 40, and though the room was small, it was clean with new carpet, the walls and ceiling had been retextured by a craftsman, and repainted using modern colors. Granted, the air conditioner was old and the remote was lost so we had to stand on a chair to turn it on and off, but it worked great! Real flowers growing in redwood boxes outside each room. Hopefully they will invest in more seating outside, as benches were shared and moved around by all of us staying on that side! Kind of funny really… We stole the bench, then somebody stole the bench from us, so we stole it back. Them someone on the other side stole the bench… All done in a highly secretive manner! The people working the front office were super nice and came to our aid right away when we had a need. I loved the feel of this cozy, older motel.

Way to expensive also I was charged $20 per night per dog which I had two. Crazy … No shower handle for the cold water and when we informed the front desk they mentioned they had known about the problem!? Lots of trash behind dresser and even had to kill a cockroach. Yuck so room was in the back had zero service. I would not recommend this motel to my worse enemy!

Mold in the toilet and in the bathroom shower and sink floor area, floors were dirty, bugs on the walls (spiders), walls were damaged. There was a bent curtain rod with a sheetlike curtain and there was a shower cap under the bed. There was a toothpaste cap in the sink drain, room smelled like cigarette smoke (even with no smoking signs) and the laminate floor was splitting. The "breakfast" was coffee and milk only. I was told this place had been renovated. Gave it one star because you can't post without a rating.

Found a dead bed bug in my bed the following day, as well as some blood stains on my sheet. I contacted management about this and they refused to take responsibility. No refund or amends were offered. Disgusting.

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. It was dirty, it was disgusting. The floor felt like years of human skins cells and oils, it's probably never been mopped. There was dirt and grime everywhere. If they did a health check I'm confident it would fail. Beware.

Very dirty room. Cobwebs and dust al over. The carpet was disgusting and looked like the it hadn't been vacuumed. I checked behind the bed for bugs and, although I didn't find any, the baseboard and carpet behind the bed were the dirtiest I've ever seen. We felt very uncomfortable sleeping and walking around in the room. I wouldn't stay here again and I definitely don't recommend it to anyone.

The staff were very pleasant but the outside grounds had broken furniture, old mattresses, bags of garbage lying around the rooms in the back. The room wasn't much better. There was new linens and bed but the curtains were basically just sheets, in the bathroom the facet for cold didn't work at the sink and in the shower the cold water was completely broken. There was also huge cobwebs and spiders everywhere. Won't be returning.

They service was aweful and the staff was extremely rude. I made a reservation for one night and they tried to charge me for 2 nights at check-in. When I tried to fix the problem the lady up front ripped up my reservation and threw me out. I'm never going back and you should avoid it at all costs.

We stayed here in April 2015. We were traveling from Mammoth Lakes to Yosemite National Park. We ended getting lost on the way, and our familys friends just wanted to rest up. So, with no internet out in the sierras, we stopped at the Gold Lodge as it was the only hotel we saw. The Staff was nice, there was a young girl there who was nice. BUT, when we got in the room we were so surprised! It smelled horrible, I think the windows hadnt been opened in ages! We were so tired all we wanted to do was sleep! When we get to our bed, the sheets had holes in them, as if someone had flicked a cigarette on there. They also had some yellowish stains, so disgusting. We had to go out to the main front desk, and ask for new sheets. No way in hell, I was gonna sleep on those. We ended up just sleeping on the sheets, didn't even use the blanket as it smelled bad. The lady was nice, she went to the back and got us a new set of sheets. We slept with the windows open, trying to sleep through the bad smell. For breakfast, it was alright. Milk, juice, some donuts, coffee etc. 3 stars for breakfast. Will not stay here again though!

It's an older hotel, but my room was very clean and fresh smelling, clean bed and floors. Was able to stay there with my pet. The price is reasonable, and whenever I need to be in Sonora again, I will stay there. Ilse ryan

When we first got there the price was 11. 00 more than we were quoted 2 weeks prior, the receptionist said that she forgot it was a weekend (when I booked it 2 weeks prior) so the price goes up. We get in the room the carpet was filthy made my feet dirty when I tookoff my shoes. The next day when we were gone the maid refreshed our room only left 2 bath towels, I had to get wash clothes, cups and toilet paper at 9:30 that night. Then the receptionist wrote the wrong date on our reservation so they keep bugging us to pay another night. Oh and when we checked in they wrote our credit card number on the back of the card (the entire number) and had someone elses name on it (had to correct) and last but not least it was 106 degrees outside but couldn't go in the pool because it was green and slimy.

My family and I stayed with the Sonora Gold Lodge and we were thoroughly disgusted with the room. The floor was so stained and smelled sooo bad, I think the carpet is at least 20 years old. The beds were filthy, the actual mattress was very dirty. The bathroom floor was caving in around the toilet. We thought it was going to fall threw. The towels were very stained and sheets dirty. The a/c is held up by duct tape and no knobs to change the settings. The pool was green and gross! They advertise a pool and spa but they were both closed, and look like they had not been used in years. There was no soap, or shampoo available as well. The room smelled like it had something rotting in it somewhere. Also, when I called I was told a lower rate than the one charged on arrival. I think it was because all other motels were sold out. The bathroom window had no screen on it and I could not open the window for air. It is very obvious that the rooms have suffered neglect for many years. The water was luke warm at best. My child ended up sleeping with me with the lights on to try and prevent getting bit by bugs. We would have stayed somewhere else but all was sold out and it was a family emergency. I would NEVER stay there again or suggest it to anybody I know. The customer service was the only positive thing. The manager explained the owners were getting ready to remodel the place, I suggest they bull doze it to the ground and start all over.
