An absolutely beautiful hotel in San Francisco. I love it’s unique character and attention to details. The doorman is very friendly and attentive. The rooms are elegantly decorated and are exceptionally clean. I definitely recommend staying here.

Very intimate room, great location, extremely hospitable and courteous staffs.

My daughter and I enjoyed drinks after an afternoon of Christmas shopping. The other fibers seemed to enjoy the food. Service was excellent.

The staff is amazing! We were treated like VIP from the minute we pulled up! I casually mentioned to the manager that it was my boyfriends birthday and when we got back to our room we had champagne and a special birthday dessert and card! We will definitely return!

Taj Hotels are my favourite because of the hospitality they offer. Of course the rooms, food and amenities are great but what attracts me the most is the hospitality and attitude to look after you well and this is why I am here :)

The hotel is great. Great location right next to Union Square and all the shopping. We took the subway here from the airport which cost $10 which saves a lot of money too. The room is nice. Great bed. Great cleaning staff too as they do a great job putting it back together every day while we're gone even going as far as folding clothes our clothes. Staff overall has been extremely nice. My main complaint is that they charge $30 a day for incidentals. This is a tonne of money when converted to Canadian (approx. $200 more on our cost to this trip) for services that could never cost that much (coffee and muffins in the morning. Water bottles in the room. Gym which we never used. ). It was also never mentioned anywhere when we booked this place and honestly, we would never have booked here had we known. That alone has left a really bad taste in our mouth as we had no choice in paying it or not when we checked in. The Wi-Fi is free apparently but when you log in, it says it's going to cost $12 for premium internet but the front desk said to ignore that. When we booked, it was clearly written that internet is free as that was important to us when choosing our hotel. Overall it's the hidden costs that this place fails to mention that keep me from giving it 5 stars. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was amazing. It's a Michelin star restaurant so expect great food with higher pricing. We did not eat dinner there as it was outside of our budget.

Lovely atmosphere and the bathroom and room were first rate. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The service in the bistro and bar was not great, but the steak was excellent.

Stayed at the Taj Compton Place for 4 nights. Nice vintage property well kept and classy. Staff were all wonderful. Housekeeping impectible. Doormen very welcoming. Food was out of this world! Had a wine from 1932! Just staying and eating here could make a nice holiday. Highly recommend.

Wonderful white glove hotel in Union Square. Great service. Also a wonderful Michelin-starred restaurant. Can’t speak enough good things about this hotel and how pleasant it is.

I knew I had to write a review. Last night we met friends that were staying here. We all had dinner at the Bistro/Bar area. James was our bartender and waiter. Might I say he was precious, kind, patient, talented, funny, gracious and made the best Strawberry Martini I have ever had in my life. The food was amazing, we had the aged steak, followed by Creme Brulee. Just delicious. We will go back again. Thank you James for being such a special and talented server.

I cannot say enough good things about the Taj! The service and staff in every area of the hotel was suburb! It starts with a warm welcome from the doorman and ends with a friendly goodbye from the doorman. The front desk was patient and very understanding and accommodating when our debit card was declined and we had to call the bank. We asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and they took their time to locate something for us. Our room was absolutely lovely! The bed was warm and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and had a big tub that allowed my wife and me to soak together after a long day of walking and sightseeing. When we finished, bathing robes and slippers were waiting for us. We had this cool window seat overlooking the street below. We enjoyed sitting there with our complimentary coffee and muffins and watching the busy people below. To our surprise, the window opened allowing the cool refreshing Pacific air and the sounds of the city in. It’s the little things that make a difference! When we returned to our room after being out for the day the maid service had neatly wrapped up all of our power cables with a tie. We did not eat at the restaurant, but dining room looked amazing we just ran out of time. We did have cocktails in the bistro, and they were delicious! Location, location, everything is within walking distance.

Loved this hotel. All of the staff are excellent. Rooms are very comfortable and clean with great amenities. Location is very convenient. I will definitely return next time I'm in San Francisco.

Great experience! Loved the people, especially Dan! The food is spectacular and the atmosphere is great. Right in the center of San Francisco’s Union Square! Easily accessible shops like Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the Apple store. It’s also a 2-5 min walk to Chinatown. The Hotel is easily seen from the street. The rooms are nice, and the bathrooms are very clean and nice. Only complaint would be the beds which aren’t the most comfortable as they are a bit small. Overall a very good experience would highly recommend!

Be careful when they charge "Miscellaneous fees" — you probably wont use any of the services that are classified under that heading, but you will still be charged. Servers are a mixed bag. Some were good, others were pathetic. When it came to loading bags into the car or the doorman helping to open the doors (when your hands were full with bags) we were treated pretty much non-existential or invisible. Basic courtesy that we expect from Taj (or at least why we pay a premium for it! ). Sent an email citing the charge, but havent received either an acknowledgement or a reply. Bottom line — if you expect great service, you will be disappointed. You are better off being at Hilton (significantly cheaper) or Hyatt (much much better service).

Amazing Michelin star, non-pretentious experience! Great options for vegetarians. Interesting flavors, excellent presentation and yummy food! We came here once to celebrate our pregnancy and again to celebrate our healthy baby :) both times for lunch, which unfortunately, is not offered anymore!

My first dinner at a Michelin 2 star Indian restaurant. I chose the vegetarian option and all the 7 courses were brilliant. The choices of sauce and spices brought a new perspective to fine fusion Indian food.

Easy to find. Food was good. Service was mediocre. Expected more explanation for my meal. Other than that I had a phenomenal time. Felt thoroughly taken care of.

Wonderful rooms, mattresses of the most comfortable of the planet I would say, I lack more variety of food in the bar.
It is a place to go as a couple or family, not to party with friends.

We have stayed in many Taj resorts and the experience here was less than optimal compared to the others. Taj hotels are known for excellent personalized service and we expected the same here. Unfortunately it did not measure up to what one would expect. The rooms are immaculate and wonderful (small, but that is to be expected in San Francisco). However, a few bad experiences soured our stay. The restaurant staff did not seem friendly and seemed rushed. At checkout, we were charged for minibar usage even though we had not touched anything in the minibar. We were charged about $70 for beer and wine that we never used. Not sure if the housekeeping staff mistakenly charged our room instead of someone else's, but that is not acceptable at a 5 star hotel. I had to fax some important documents urgently and the front desk employee on the first night was more than willing to do it and made sure that I got confirmation of it. I had to fax a couple of more documents the next morning and another person at the front desk told me that it would cost $3 for the first sheet and $1 for every subsequent sheet. It's not about the charge, but the inconsistency in their policy. The first employee went out of his way make sure I got things done, but the second employee seemed like he was being bothered to do something.

Lunch menu was awesome. Worth the price. Service was rush with no patience. Waiter seemed to focus on getting the job done than giving you good service. I had been going to their dinner service. It has been become less impressive. So decides to come for lunch. Good value.

I was visiting a friend's room for a few hours. My friend had lost their room access card and when she entered the front desk line, the doorman came in got the replacement key process going. The service there is prompt and the employees seem to be willing to play multiple roles. The rooms are very nice and large. The furniture is all high quality and the bathrooms are luxurious. The room my friend was in had a view of the Christmas tree in a courtyard across the street, which was a fantastic view.

Great taste, delicious food, service was perfect. They also gave us a complementary dessert as it was our anniversary. Each food item was unique and ingredients were so fresh.

Taj hotels are always great. Service is perfect. The Indian touch helps! The Taj Campton Place Hotel is in a great location at Union Square in San Francisco. The Taj Campton Place Restaurant is also great — try their vegetarian tasting menu — incredibly creative food. The room was comfortable, bed great for sleeping, and bathroom spacious. Staff were friendly & helpful.

We made reservations for 9:30pm, and enjoyed the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the service. Until waiters started asking us "are you still working on this? " which is SUCH an annoying question, and SO inappropriate for such a high end venue! We come to a place like this to enjoy, not to be rushed! If staff wants to go home by 11pm — don't except late reservations! If you DO except late reservations — let your guests enjoy what they pay for! Before we were done — waiters started collecting table cloths from neighboring tables, set for next shift, and clearly exoressing how much they all wanted us to leave already.! This behavior is Sadly very typical for San Francisco, but we did not expect it in a place that charges average of $250.00 per person! It kinda destroyed the experience for us.

Everything was amazing! We have stayed at two different Taj Hotels and have been blown away by the outstanding level of service during each stay. A little planing before hand at each property with the concierge put the extra special touch on our stays. They are welling go the extra mile! You just have to ask. A very special Thank You to Nick and the staff. My new wife (we were on our honeymoon) became ill during our stay and had to taken to the hospital. Nick called the on call doctor, came to our suite to insure we were ok, called the Ambulance, and made sure we had what we needed when my wife was being taken down by the EMT. Heartfelt care and service! When we travel and there is a Taj Hotel, we will always put them at the top when considering a place to stay.

We had a wonderful meal here! The dishes were each plated so elegantly and had lovely connections to unique aspects of San Francisco. The picnic in the park was by far the best presentation.

It is quite expensive (~$200/person after tax and tip). But the experience is worth it. The food is all amazing. The service is impeccable. The pacing and portions are on point. If you are looking for a fancy evening out this is a fantastic choice.

Coming from India, I know that the Taj Group is one of the finest hotels in the country. I've been celebrating my birthday every year for the past 3 years at the Taj Campton Place (my girlfriend found this place). They have the best Indian/Californian Fusion cuisine at a 2 Michelin Star Restaurant. If you go with two or more people, make sure you get their Vegetarian Menu for a variety! Some of the dishes are fantastic and worth trying. We have decided to make this a tradition for many more years to come! We've been amazed by the hospitality and creativity of Chef Srijith Gopinathan.

If you have been to India and visited Taj hotels there, Campton Place is definitely not as grand or elegant. The main restaurant was closed so we had drinks at the Bar and Bistro. The food was good and reasonably priced but the space was tiny and the decor was not that great. The main restaurant looked a lot nicer.

This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at in SF (and I've stayed at a lot of them). The rooms are not only clean, but emaculate. The beds are just right. The couches are comfy. The staff are top notch.

Absolutely LOVE this hotel! The location can't be beat; walk to Ghibelline Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and steps to the Cable Car turnaround that takes you anywhere else you want to be in the city. Great park next to the Hotel with views of the Golden Gate Bridge… all this, plus beautiful decor and an amazing staff made our stay one that we will never forget. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to San Francisco!

Food: 5, Service: 4. I had a set menu here for New Years Eve last night, and *every* single bite was amazing! The food was artfully presented, flawlessly seasoned, perfectly textured, and so on. Basically mini works of art. And I think this was agreed by everyone in my group, based on all the "ooooh! " and "amazing! " overheard. (Actually, one small exception: The bread was cold, unremarkable, and just meh in taste and texture. ) I was, however, a bit surprised and disappointed that the service did not quite match the amazing quality of the food. For instance, several times a waiter brought a meat dish to one of the vegetarian members of our party. One time would have been an understandable mistake, but doing this repeatedly? And I can't imagine any vegetarian likes having blood-red meat placed in front of them : (. Additionally, having experienced the incredible efficiency at Manresa (where all plates were placed down on the table within a split second of each other! ), I was a bit underwhelmed with the service here. Also, the fact that a 20% service charge (vs. 18%) was added to an already (IMHO) very, very expensive bill was an additional bit of annoyance. And, indeed, a bit re the price: While I've not factored this in to my rating, I do want to note that the cost of my meal came to just over $300 after tax and tip (including one included glass of champagne).

Arrived there about 9:00 am from an early flight, and was planning on just asking if they could hold our bags until check in. The clerk at the front desk was so kind and let us check in our room early. From the moment we arrived until the second we left, we had the Ultimate stay because of everyone on the staff. From the front desk, to the door men, to the concierge and all the staff that we encountered, we felt so welcome and were most appreciative of the entire service! We didn't know our way around SF very well, and the informative front desk personnel and the concierge were extremely helpful! It's in a very convenient location, 2 blocks to Chinatown where we spent a lot of time shopping. Close to transportation, and a Starbucks next door, however we didn't have to go there. They have a nice complimentary morning coffee and tea set up, along with fresh baked goods. I am already recommending this hotel to everyone I know, and will most definitely stay here every time I visit San Francisco! I've already posted photos and compliments on all my social media, and have 5 starred this hotel! Thank you so much for making my stay a Wonderful Experience!

Absolutely amazing food! I went there as part of a company event and even if we were around 100 people, they delivered on quality. Very, very fine meal with a delightful presentation. A memorable dinner!

Once again, a perfect rating for its creative, quality food and impeccable service. We always have the vegetarian tasting menu and it is wonderful. If you want the best food and service, this is where to go. One of my best dining experiences ever! Outstanding service, ambiance, and food. This is a place to eat at for special occasions. Service: Taj Hotels owns this, and is a leading Indian hotel chain. Their service is impeccable and staff are trained to make you happy. The service at this hotel is no different. Expect the best. The staff are really focused on you and they will cater what they serve to your dietary needs. Ambiance: Nice quiet but not stuffy atmosphere. The seating area is limited. You should plan on spending 2 or more hours here depending on the # of items you want in the tasting menu. Food: The food served here is upscale, with unique items, and many items that are Indian fusion. This is the place to eat if you want to try items you will not get anywhere else. The food comes in small portions and they will bring it to you at the pace you want. The creativity and quality is great. My wife and I had the 6 course vegetarian tasting menu several times, and have no regrets. We also added some of their expensive truffles to one dish, had non alcoholic Navarro wine, vegetarian cheese, and mint lemonade. On another occasion, they created a special menu for my wife's birthday that was incredibly good.

We here with a group of 7 on a Saturday night. We had the 5-course chef's tasting menu. The food is subtly Indian and overall very good. I recommend the mango dessert. The ambiance is a little too uptight for my taste.

I've now stayed here three times. The rooms are lovely, well-appointed, and comfortable, not to mention pristine and well-kept. And the service is always super friendly. Having stayed in other, more expensive SF hotels, I'm now convinced the Taj is the best choice.

The DAT menu=a revelation. Molecular gastronomy done right, but nothing 'precious'. The chef's amuse bouche, a foam of green apple, arugula and avocado, perfectly balanced and melted on the tongue. The salmon and chicken had crisp, tasty skins and was perfectly cooked. The location is ideal, just off Union Square. Service is gracious and attentive.

I am compelled to tell everyone who reads this review that David at the bar creates the best Ramos Gin Fizz ever! David is a great mixologist and is fun to chat with, I wish I were rich enough (like filthy rich) to employ him as my own personal bartender but in this lifetime I am happy enough to visit him whenever I can. The dining room and bar is an elegant experience, I'm glad to live in San Francisco.

Still a delightful place after many changes — — with elegant surroundings, classy ambiance, attentive and careful service, and really good food. Portions are small but adequate and beautifully presented, and the kitchen sends several tasty "extras" during the course of a meal. Good drinks and a comprehensive wine list (with some reasonably priced choices) add to the nicely paced dinner experience.
