The hotel was very quaint, staff was nice and helpful. Bathroom was very small if you are a tall person or bigger person I would ask if they have other options. Very close to union square and AT&t park. We would stay in the area again but different hotel.

Got back to visit this amazing hotel and it’s still awesome. The Italian retaurant, FINO, is still killing it as well. Great little place. This hotel gives the quaint old time feel for a couple. It’s clean, has great history and you can’t beat the morning floor breakfast. Fruit, bagels, pastries, coffee and OJ right outside your door. Top notch.

Shouldn’t even have 1 star. Absolutely diabolical, way over priced, filthy, run down and patronising manager. Wouldn’t recommend.

Great value, friendly and helpful front desk personnel. European, quaint feel. Breakfast has value to grab a pastry on the go with some OJ (nothing wrong with that! )

Very nice hotel with a vintage feel at a great price point. The hotel staff were very nice and accommodating. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is for the fact that the room can be a little noisy at times with the plumbing etc.

The Andrews is a good bargain and has a lot of character. The parking isn't great, but it makes up for it in nice rooms with food and coffee available on every floor every morning. There's a lot of good options got food and entertainment within a reasonable walking distance from the hotel, including plenty of restaurants, China Town, amongst other things. One particular problem: all of the windows open into very weird "shafts". Inside of these "shafts" are everyone else's windows… so if you do open them and so does anyone else from the first to seventh floor, you can just very clearly hear them doing whatever they're doing, which was kinda odd. Still, for the price, you really can't beat it.

The Andrews hotel is a beautiful hotel with polite and friendly staff. The room was clean and a decent size. They also offer some unique amenities, like a compliment glass of wine in the evening and continental breakfast served on each floor. The only negatives I've experienced are the lack of a fitness center and there only being one small elevator (which did go out during my stay).

Just an update after my review was hidden … Grade A dump, anyone giving more than 2 stars clearly works in this health and safety hazard.

It is a 3 star hotel, very cosy. Although it's not very big, it was good for me. The staff is very nice and worried that your stay is good. Being small, breakfast is served in the hallways, so you can go out in pajamas, take what you want to eat and enter to have breakfast in your room.
The location is very good. It's just blocks from Union Square.

We stayed there this past weekend. The staff was incredible. The location is a block away from the train station to Manhattan. The beds are firm but ridiculously comfortable. Frank was so kind he drew us a path to get the most out of our day in the city. We will definitely stay there again. It was also affordable. They offer a valet service for 14$ a day. Much more cost effective than the meters.

If you are looking for a unique hotel experience and want to experience culture within such an amazing city, this hotel is for you. It is THE boutique hotel stay you are looking for. Instead of staying at a Marriott or Hilton, open yourself to the possibility of staying at a hotel that is an exciting part of your trip instead of a mundane necessity. The Andrews Hotel IS the boutique experience. I loved every minute of this quaint hotel. The service is exceptional and the location is perfect for a business and/or pleasure stay.

Just finished my second visit here. Perfect location, good value for money. Rooms, especially the bathrooms are very small but clean, beds are very comfortable.
Free complementary wine in the (excellent) restaurant which is attached to the hotel.
If you don't want to stay in a chain hotel but prefer a building with some history this is the right place for you.

A classic, small and antique place. Reception is friendly, rooms are neat and overall feel is warmth. The lift is v small and rooms are v small too. I loved the front lobby which was more of a sitting lounge. Not your usual hotel but a nice den to dwell in for a night or two when you are traveling on a budget. Not kid friendly.

This quaint hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of several sights and sounds of Nob Hill. Though the room was small, the bed was comfortable, and the radiator was strong enough to keep you sweating on even the coldest night! The bathroom in the room was also a bit cramped, but it looked like it was recently remodeled, and the water pressure in the shower was great. The hotel itself was clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There is also a complimentary breakfast which is a plus, but I did not get a chance to try it so I cannot comment on it. If you're looking to stay just a few nights, this is an excellent choice; I would stay here again.

The service is exemplary at this small, charming, Victorian hotel near downtown San Francisco. While the hotel is decidedly 'low-tech', the value, comfort, and location certainly outweigh the benefits of a plush $400/night hotel that you can find only a block away. The Andrews Hotel offers family-run style attention and all of the basic amenities (a light continental breakfast, an in-unit bathroom with shower, and even a free glass of wine every evening). The rooms are small for a family, but perfect for guests that will only be in for the nights. Unfortunately, the rooms also feature very thin walls, making nearly any noise on the floor audible to most rooms. A flushed toilet is a dramatic ordeal when it awakes you suddenly and causes you to jolt upright out of bed. I had no problem with the cleanliness of the rooms, although some guests have suggested otherwise. Overall, understand that this is a five-star experience, given that the price was on par for a two — or three-star experience. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, it's not even a Marriott, but it is a beautiful and charming place to stay in San Francisco.

This was such a great place from the welcome as you enter till you check out. Our room was the corner room and had a great view. The restaurant downstairs smelled amazing, we didn't try it but the aroma was great. The location was perfect, not far from any of the public transportation and centrally located if you don't mind walking.

I stayed at the Andrews Hotel for 4 nights recently while I was in town for a convention. The room I stayed in was a "Petite Suite" and just lovely. Everything about my stay was great, especially Mary, who works at the front desk during the day. Mary and her staff were so polite and nice that I really felt like I was coming back home when I returned to the hotel each day after the convention. The only drawback I ran into during my stay was that it was cold in San Francisco and there wasn't (to my knowledge) any way make the room warmer at night. This is a seriously charming hotel and I would definitely stay there again if I have the opportunity.

El Fino. What can I say… when I want an extraordinary meal served by the BEST staff, without the dread of pretentiousness or outrageous pricing, I gladly travel 100 miles from Sacramento, pay the bridge toll, fight through traffic and park in the Union Square garage to walk 5 blocks to this restaurant on the ground floor of the Andrew's Hotel. Their specialty drinks are well-crafted and unique. But it's about their food! Each bite is a symphony in the mouth. A bad meal does not exist here. The serving staff operate as a family. Each has a well-developed intuition, essential to good service. But here, it is more. They are psychic! Tell them a little about yourself, and they will recommend a meal THAT WILL suit you WITHOUT FAIL. El Fino IS my favorite restaurant ever since my first visit. It has been patronized by Presidential first families, and foodies alike. Reservations are STRONGLY recommended. Business to business/casual attire. Dinner for two, with cocktails, appetizers, wine, and main course will run between $80 & $140, which is a bargain for the experience.

Clean room, nice bed. What you expect for the price. Bathroom small but didnt really matter to us. Breakfast mostly just sweets. Free glas of wine.

Location is the best feature. It's an old structure, lighting is very poor. Breakfast is very basic, just fine.

It was a decent experience. The woman at the front desk the morning I checked in was a bit abrasive and I could see how some would not like her. The rooms themselves were a little small, quaint, and we'll put together. But the beds were a little old and worn-out could use some new beds. Biggest beef for this hotel was the the cost of the room. I felt it was definitely overpriced and could have been a $100 cheaper.

Stayed 2 nights. Room was small but clean. Bathroom was extremely tiny. Bed was comfortable. No air conditioning but stayed in a corner room so we had a cross breeze from the open windows. Parking is $52 per night. We dropped our rental car at Budget across the street from the hotel and took public transportation, which is walking distance. We would stay here again but would definitely stay in a corner room for the cross breeze.

Rooms are small but unlike other places the bathroom is in your room. We had a queen size bed that pretty much filled the room besides a couple small pieces of furniture. The bathroom is also very small. We expected some this, being downtown. Staff was friendly and gave us a complementary glass of wine from the in building restaurant.

Clean rooms though they are on the small to tiny side. Linens appeared to be very clean. Staff is attentive and friendly. The hotel is within walking distance to great shopping and dining at Union Square. Fino (Italian) restaurant in the lobby is amazing!

I went in to eat at Fino restaurant located inside The Andrews Hotel. The food and staff were both amazing and attentive. Our table was in a weird corner between the front door, the hostess stand, and the hall to the restrooms so that was a little crazy but other than that it was an overall good experience.

Right downtown, reasonably priced, and lots of things to do all around. Friendly staff, and very easy to book an online reservation.

The hotel is clean, the rooms are tidy and well-maintained, and the use of space is certainly efficient. The front door to the lobby locks (unlocked with a key card or by the front desk), which is great for deterring the many transients in the area. The room does not seem to have air conditioning, though there are windows that vent to allow for air flow. The bathroom is so tiny, however, that you have to tuck your knees under the sink to use the toilet. I'm only 5'10", and if I were any taller I may not fit. The shower is just large enough to barely turn around in. Moderately expensive even for SF given the space, but a generally nice building with pleasant staff.

Rooms are clean, a little on the small side and not much windows. However, for the price and location, it's a good hotel.

Very unique hotel. The rooms are extremely small. Parking is $34 a day! The hotel is in a nice location downtown if you want to walk around down there. If downtown isn't your think, I would find a hotel more on the outskirts of the city.

The bed was terrible and the hotel was loud. The plus sides are that the staff is nice, the location is good and it is relatively cheap.

Nice boutique hotel. Vintage elevator! Why 4 stars? : -No A/C in the rooms. We were in a heat wave and it was painfull -Bathroom is very small : you can literally brush your teeth over the sink while sitting on the toilet bowl.

And the restaurant Finns I believe, was Amazing as well. Never had such good ravioli so we liked that there is a restaurant attached to The Andrews Hotel.

Very old school, feels like the 50's. Nearly impossible to park in the area ant the valet parking is awfully expensive.

If you love boutique, European type hotels — this is the place for you. It was built in 1905 and it's not like staying in the "cookiecutterchaindoesn'tmatterwhatcityyouarein" hotel. Complimentary: bottled water and soft drinks in frig in room, wireless internet, wine at five in the lobby, lovely continental breakfast. There's also fabulous fine Italian dining "Finos" in the hotel. All in the center of downtown! I loved it.

My wife and I stayed at the Andrews Hotel for three nights in September. We were very pleased with it. The guys at the front desk were very helpful. Since we stayed there for one night when we first arrived in San Francisco, and then two further consecutive nights a few days after we returned from Sonoma Valley, we had two different rooms. The rooms are all small, but certainly big enough for a couple. The beds were very clean and comfortable. Our first room felt a bit smaller than the second one, because the bed in the first room was in a bit of an alcove. We preferred the second room just because it felt slightly larger, but both were fine. The continental breakfast on each floor is a very nice touch; and the complimentary wine in the attached restaurant at dinner time was great. The hotel location is superb — just two blocks from Union Square. A great base for a visit to a wonderful city.

We stayed here beginning of Oct 08. Excellent location close to Union Square, cable cars. We were able to walk or cable car everywhere from this location. The hotel is old and imho what you would expect from an older hotel. Small rooms however nicely detailed with private shower bathroom. Staff were friendly and allowed bag storage well after checkout — even allowing us to return after a jaunt in the Napa Valley and just store our bags (while we shopped and killed time waiting to return to the airport). Across the street was a great little Sushi restaurant, and also close on the corner of Post and Taylor a cool little bar (Owl bar) for after dinner cocktails. Value for the money.

I stayed at this hotel in May of 07 and it has its charm in its history, espcially with the old elevator, but it looks as if the place hasnt been redecorated since the 1970s and was done by my grandmother. Our bedroom was very small and I felt like a rat in a maze just trying to locate the bathroom because the room was so small and shaped very odd. When I got there, the hot water was non-existant. It was also very loud and not a very good nights sleep. This was one of 3 San Fran hotels I stayed in on my trip, and it was my least favorite. The man who checked us in was drunk and smelled heavily of alcohol. And their breakfast is a basket of bread set on a table in a common area of your floor. It was good bread, but I was hoping for a bit more. My husband and I laugh about it now, but we wouldnt stay there again.
