Reviews of The Portofino Hotel & Marina, a Noble House Hotel 4*
Great place family friendly.
Had a wonderful, romantic time. Wine tasting and lounge superb. Staff very friendly.
Great experience all around! Outstanding hosts, comfortable rooms overlooking the water & within waking distance to a lot of great places to eat and drink, if not dining at the hotel. Highly recommend! Will return again!
Wonderful customer service across the board!
A wonderful place to relax and take in the beauty of the ocean.
Ocean and marina views. Many great restaurants in walking distance. Walk to Redondo Beach Pier and beach. ’
Great wedding venue, visited a few weeks ago!
Well kept resort in a fantastic and safe location. Top notch staff always willing to go the extra mile for their guests. Pet friendly 🐾
Great weather and beautiful views.
We had a wonderful stay at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach over Thanksgiving. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and the view was awesome. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect. I can't wait to go back. I love this hotel!
I stayed there for a wedding. It was nice but a little far if you wanted to go anywhere since you had to walk around the marina. The biggest problem that I had with it is that I was charged a self parking fee of $32 a day and did not have a car. After many calls and messages I still have not received a return call or refund. For such a nice hotel I find this lack of customer service unacceptable!
Great location. Average rooms. We had an altercation with a young man in an adjoining room. Tried to break into our room at 1:30 in the morning. A battle between us. Security was not very helpful. We changed rooms. We expected some compensation for our horrible experience. Nothing has come as yet. Called manager several times with no result.
Would never go there again.!
Beautiful experience. I love this place and will return.
My wife, our kids and my father & mother in law rented a room here in 3rd floor. The place is clean and very peaceful inspite of our TV is not working in our bedroom, we need to watch TV in the living room and the Wi-Fi we cant connect to our devices inspite of we paid suite fee room. Mrs Nilcri & Mr Mike Massey.
Loved the balcony view, listening to the seals & birds. Awesome view & being able to ride the bikes. We loved it there.
Beautiful view & atmosphere will come back.
Ocean View Rooms are Breathtaking. A Very Romantic atmosphere. We will be back.
Voted! ❤️ quick and easy. Friendly people.
Friendly host and staff. Very clean and beautiful. Comfy and cozy.
I was great. I like the view of the Marina.
Sublime. On the marina, close to so much, bike rental available to get you up the strand. Excellent service, well appointed, historic, and super comfy beds. The sea lions might wake you up here and there, but it’s part of the charm.
Awesome place! Will come back here.
Very friendly Staff! Great views from the rooms! We will definitely be coming back.
We had a lovely dinner at the Baleen restaurant. The food was delicious, the wine great,
and the staff was lovely. I would eat there again.
Just checked in and do far so good. Bartender prepared a great drink.
Amazing staff and location.
Don’t even know where to start. Portofino was the best reception venue. First of the hotel staff was amazing for the 5 days that we were there. The catering staff was insanely helpful and made sure they did whatever they could to make our day perfect. The wedding staff/coordinators were amazing to work with and made everything so easy! Everyone loves the venue, the staff, the food, and everything in between. We are very thankful that we ended up booking our wedding with The Portofino Hotel and Marina. Our stay exceeded our expectations and so did the whole wedding process.
Serene, classy and upscale hotel. Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from our third floor suite and truly enjoyed the sea lions who sang to us during our stay. Will definitely return next year.
Great atmosphere and view.
Very quiet serene and calming. The staff and the food are great.
Lovely scenery, comfortable rooms wonderful service!
This hotel is amazing! On the water, great views! Beautiful decor through-out. Nicely decorated and the MOST comfortable beds and pillows! I have stayed here more than a dozen times and I keep coming back!
Loved The Portofino! Had a fabulous brunch this past Sunday! Oysters on the half shell! Delicious!
The staff was great! Nice place to relax and unwind.
We stayed there for an overnight for my hubby's surprise birthday weekend. Surely, they surprised us with a complimentary bottle of wine & a beautiful ocean view room. Service was superb. Dining at Baleen Kitchen was an extra yummy experience.
The room was perfect and the patio was an amazing place to sit and listen to the sea lions. The live entertainment in the lounge was also very nice. The restaurant was fabulous!
My rating would actually be 3.5 stars (not a option on this rating scale) Excellent location on the water, specially if you are a boater or enjoy boats. Hotel is nice, but shows its age. Some rooms smell musty (a person in our party said “mothballs”). Staff is friendly and grounds are kept up nicely. Did not use the pool, so I can’t speak to that. A/C works… but just, and rooms tend to feel muggy (maybe that’s why there is a musty smell in some). Would I come back? Yes, but my expectations for a future visit would be based on my recent experience. This of this property as a Caribbean waterfront hotel (and all that entails, good and bad) south of LAX and reasonably accessible. If you have to walk from one end of it to the other, it’s quite a long walk. Would easily be in a top ten recommendation for this specific area of S. California for an on-water location.
The housekeeping staff and the valet parking staff are really very good. The front desk however seems lacking in the coordination of services and guest relations. I requested additional bath towels that never came that day but the same request the next day was filled immediately. No a/c in the halls. Room a/c barely adequate.
I had such a wonderful experience at this hotel! I went on a whim with my sister and while we were waiting for our room, they managed to give us a room facing the beautiful sea right in front of where the seals talk! Lo. Anyhow, it was such a gorgeous view and quite breathtaking. I love nature and animals, so it was just perfect! You can also watch thd gorgeous sunsets here! So relaxing and tranquil — you can just open up the windows, hear and see the seals, pelicans, seagulls and birds. It's quite beautiful!
Rooms were comfortable, clean, and quiet with a pleasant view of the water. Staff were friendly, there is a decent restaurant with nice tapas on site and it was only a short drive to plenty of other dinning options. There is a small bar in the lobby seating area which I highly recommend visiting at the end of your day, the bartender was friendly and used his mixology skills to make us some awesome cocktails. I would definitely stay here again.
Honestly I didn't stay at the hotel as it was a bit expensive mid week, but I did eat at the hotel restaurant Baleen. Food was delicious and half the menu was in a tapas/small plate format. Dishes were good; lobster mac, truffle & parmesan fries and a cheese plate. Entrees such as the Miso glazed salmon and the diver sea scallops were amazing but the hanger steak was a bit of a miss. Service was on point as well. I would return but hopefully they'll have the hard cider they offer on the menu and it won't be out of stock.
I stay at the Portofino hotel regularly for work. The location it's beautiful and peaceful. I have the marina view from my balcony and it's fabulous. The room are very spacious and comfortable. Staff is always superb. There's a small gym and a swimming pool if you don't want to go to the beach and you can rent a bike from the front desk if you want to go around. I would highly recommend.
Booked a room for our pre-anniversary and it was a beautiful room, nice bar, great view of the ocean. We had a lovely day only to be interrupted in the evening by a phone call from the front desk saying their card reader had an error and the room deposit (not the payed for room) hadn't gone through. My husband had to beg the front desk to come up and grab his card to run it because it was night and we were already relaxed in our room. After some time of talking they finally came up and got the card. Honestly feel like they should have just waited until morning to get the card and not bug their guests who were settled in for the night. Beautiful hotel, but staff needs a lesson or two on curtesy.
I have filmed parties and weddings here over the years and it's always a lovely place to be. It seems to have its own weather environment because it could be sunny all over LA and foggy here. It burns off eventually, of course. Parking is validated-free for events. There is a flight of stairs that enables you to walk down to the sea wall and watch the boats pass through. The "No Fishing" sign appears to be a suggestion. Easy access for wherlchairs into the ballroom.
I attended a musical event that a friend was playing at. We were seated outside along the marina. There were plenty of seats. The waitress service was great. The music experience was intimate and away from the road. We loved the experience and will definately come back.
Great view. Nice good. Good service and everything. Overall a great place to host an event. There was a weird smell in one part of the room though.
The hotel was beautifully decorated, our room was clean and the staff was always helpful and kind. The free bike rental is the best part! You're only a mile from Hermosa Beach and a little farther from Manhattan. It's fun walking down the marina out front and watching the crabs and skates in the water. The sealions out back can get quite noisy but they're fun to watch! Loved this hotel and will be staying here again.
Excellent place to stay if you want to get away from LA traffic. I love the fact that it's right near the beach and some food places. They also let you rent complimentary bikes which is awesome. And if you're lucky you'll get to see a car show at the beach.
Excellent hotel with professional service and guarded and protected area. The rooms are very nice and tastefully decorated in a marinaro style.
The prices are in line with the competition against which however this hotel offers better services! Cleaning at the top!
This was by far the best experience we have had to date at any coastal hotel. The staff was pleasant and the service was impeccable. The room was exactly as advertised which was a very pleasant surprise. I will be coming back many times in the future. Wonderful experience.
For the price — I expected a better experience. We didn't have a bad time. Loved the location. Seemed super busy at the front desk always, and we weren't able to check in early — or at our check in time. Finally got to our room about 4:40. Found the toilet loose, and it would bang against the wall when you stood up. It worked, so I didn't complain — I just expected more. Some cleanliness issues with the whirlpool tub as well. I don't usually pay that kind of money for a hotel experience, but we wanted something really nice. It was just an okay experience in a great location.
A beautiful hotel with an amazing view! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I reserved 2 rooms, both of which were upgraded. My kids loved to watch the sail boats and sea lions off of the balcony. The beds were heavenly and the jetted tub was a perfect addition. Thank you for making our family vacation an experience that we will always remember.
The room itself was very quiet and large however the attention to detail was lacking. Paying over $250 per night I expected a little more. The amount of "extras" around the room for sale, like a mini bar and wine bottles was a bit tacky, and there was no extra blankets anywhere in the room. The bed only has a sheet and a light comforter so when I got cold in the middle of the night there was nothing extra. There was a small fridge however it was so full of beers and wine that have probably been in there for months that there was no room for our leftovers from dinner. I think it was a beautiful location, and quiet but not worthy of a 4-star hotel rating.

Very nice hotel in a very good area of Los Angeles. Clean rooms, helpful staff, and very good looking hotel (decorations). Be adviced the parking cost extra per night.
The Portofino Hotel & Marina is our favorite stay in the Redondo area. The rooms are spectacular, the views are gorgeous. If you stay here, make the right choice and grab an ocean view room — both the sunrises and sunsets from your balcony are delightful. There is great dining at the hotel restaurant on the Marina as well as other options within walking distance.
I was here recently for a friend's wedding reception. We got there a little bit early and had a pleasant time at the hotel bar. All aspects of the venue were great for the reception.
Had a Friend visiting from the United Kingdom and wanted her to stay in a safe and beautiful setting. We loved this property! Loved hearing the sea lions at night. We left our patio door open and she requested the bed closest to the windows to take a peek out and see them! The restaurant across the parking lot was great for breakfast and a nice spot to share drinks and catch up on Life stories and happenings. We would have loved a bigger pool (for the size of the property we were surprised it was so small, but the ambience and service in the Hotel is exquisite so it all worked out nicely. We both thought it would be a nice place for a wedding or a fun escape for a couple. But as friends, we had a nice time too.
I went as a guest for a wedding. Parking was free which was good. The food was very good though the portion was small but that is underdtandable because they had to feed a lot of people. The area in which the ceremony was held had a view of the rocky pier which was not too great.
The staff was incredibly nice and professional. We had troubles with our key and lock but they were so helpful and got it figured out. Our room was lovely and clean. They have options for in room mini bar and snacks. Bicyle rentals are included. Our balcony was lovely. The bathroom had plenty of room and the toiletries were nice. I liked that they were in big bottles to save waste. One thing to note is that self parking and valet parking is the same cost of $27/ day. I would recommend this place for anyone but especially for any couple wanting a nice get away.
Location is good, nice looking vintage structure, marina views are terrible really, amenities are very poor. (Paid Wi-Fi?!?, no free breakfast option besides lemon water. Fitness center is minimal and tiny, as is the pool. Paid parking when it's just not necessary, plenty of free parking all around, and plenty of space in their parking lot. ) The night staff… not so pleasant. I can listen clearly to conversations in the hall, or room next door. The lounge space in the lobby was very pleasant. The staff later in the day, was much better.

I really enjoyed our stay here. The whole staff provided great service and the room was very comfortable and cozy. The room service food was unbelievably delicious and we were able to enjoy it on the balcony. I would definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.
I went to this hotel for a wedding. The venue is small but very pretty because it's right next to the beach. The food was delicious and the venue was very clean. The bathroom was downstairs, which was slightly odd, but it was fairly clean. We had to pay $12 for parking because it was for a wedding, but it would've been like $17 for regular parking.
Good location, quiet at night. Provide good shampoo and lotion. Very good room price but come with needs to pay over-night parking fee. House keeping serves are very noisy from 8am (we stayed 3 nights, every morning was very noisy)
We went to a wedding on a Sunday afternoon. It was nice. The ocean view was great. All the waiter were super professional. Food quality was okay. You cannot complaint more. Overall it is a nice place for wedding or mid use event.
I had prepaid for a room, and upon arrival was alerted that my credit card had been frozen due to fraud and could not be used for the incidentals deposit. When I attempted to use cash for the deposit, I was told that was not permitted, and that they could not refund my stay or offer a credit. They essentially stole the price of a one night stay with no apologies.
Came here for a wedding reception and it is such a beautiful location. There was at least one other wedding going on at the same time, but unless you went outside you wouldn't know it. The night went very smoothly with only a couple hiccups (wine/wine glass related). I would not hesitate to recommend this location for a similar event.
I had an odd experience here. The "marina" room they put us in had views of the parking lot and had a connecting door to very noisy next door guests who woke us up early. So we requested a different room. In my haste I forgot a nightgown in the first room. Oddly housekeeping said they never found the nightgown even though I was sure I accidentally left it. Did they steal a pregnant woman's nightgown? I just feel like I could not trust the house keeping or staff here again. Otherwise the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable and the hotel is in a great location.
Beautiful hotel, and it is an amazing location. The only thing is the rooms are kind of expensive and they are not very big. But everything else is top notch. Went to a wedding here and the food was good and the location was just beautiful.
A set of good standing but big bemols in the service mould missing towels not terrible view in the DRC not to mention the thermal power plant has less than 100 m. Otherwise Redondo beach is pleasant.
Small pool for the hotel but Free bike service!
Great hotel at the marina. No sand nearby, but lots of water. There are free bike rentals and you can also pay to rent some kayaks and other toys next door. The pool was disappointing for such a nice place, but the main "living room" near the lobby and the hotel room were great. Recommend for families and those who enjoy boating. The area isn't as crowded as other places in the LA area.
My 18 year old daughter and I stayed here 7/29 through the Fourth of July. The hotel was lovely! The Decour, the rooms were very clean and very nicely decorated. The staff were very nice and helpful. This hotel offers bikes! FREE! The only negative comments would be they needed full length mirrors in the rooms. Parking is $27 per day which is a little high. Also we paid $45 for two bowls of oatmeal and two bowls of fresh fruit. A little pricey for that. Otherwise the views are great it was an awesome experience. We would definitely stay here again.
I love the location. Walking distance to the pier. Staff are very friendly. The complimentary bike are very useful and enjoyable especially with children. The room is nice. The cons are nothing is free. All the mini bar and goodies are highly priced. Scared to touch anything in the room, they might charge us. The only thing that is free is Wi-Fi and in room coffee. For a high priced room should have at least complimentary parking and breakfast.
Nice hotel. Great location. Older design with narrow halls and slow elevator. One star removed for old LCD TV's that don't have HDMI inputs (might work with a DVI to HDMI converter. Note that fridge is completely used with mini bar so you will be out of luck if you were hoping to use the fridge.
Came here for a wedding, venue was great. It was a hot day but cooled down over the evening. The outdoor ceremony area is very cozy (with sea lions chiming in from afar at times) and the indoor reception has large windows all around looking out at the port. We saw a wonderful sunset! Food was actually quite delicious and service was on par. Restrooms are downstairs so you have to climb a little.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I have been to over 300 hotels in my lifetime because I travel and this is the absolute worst of all. We got there at around 2 am and there was nobody there to help us with our bags except this one really rude Mexican guy that worked at the valet. We get to the room and I discover that there is alcohol FILLING the mini fridge. I couldn't even fit my water bottle in there. I know how these things work and if you take one of the drinks out, it charges you. I had to go out of my way to contact housekeeping and get them to get rid of the alcohol in the fridge. After this, my family (2 kids, my wife, and i) went to the restaurant across the street for breakfast. It turns out that this is the ONLY restaurant IN THIS WHOLE RESORT. You'd think since they charge so much they could afford to have a couple more restaurants or at least one with GOOD FOOD. The "breakfast buffet food" was as cold as the time I went to alaska. The coffee was so light it was practically just plain milk! later, when we get back to the room, I find that the lazy housekeepers took the alcohol out of the fridge but put it in A BAG instead of taking it out of my room. I also discovered an ugly brown sea urchin on my bead. My daughter thought it was the cutest thing, and she wanted to bring it home. I didn't mind because I though it was free.
Booked this hotel for a business stay for my wife in the LA area. Looked nice upon arriving. The hotel is a little older but seemed well kept. This was until about 3 AM when water started leaking from the ceiling onto the bed. She was told they would switch her rooms, but it never happened. Apparently they simply stopped the leak from above. To add to it, one of the managers on duty harassed her by continually inviting her to dinner, offering to pay for it, calling her room at night to try and get her to come "hang out" with him, and finally gave her his number on a piece of paper in case she needed any "personal attention. " We are married and she was completely appalled at his advances. We will never be back here and would recommend others to stay away. To top it all off, all the extra fees ended up costing us $300 more than the advertised rate for a three night stay. Stay elsewhere.
The portofino hotel and marina is a gorgeous hotel with a lovely staff. The rooms are large and well supplied. The ac and lights are controlled by sensors that can tell if a doir is open or if people are in the room, allowing them to turn off to save energy. The staff is warm and inviting, ans willing to helpwith any concerns. This is definitely an establishment worth visting.
Lipstick on a pig. This is a very old hotel with a nice view but paper paper thin walls and poor to mediocre service. Our room was right next to the laundry room and cleaning service began at 7 am with loud banging on the walls and outside of the room. Every time a door shuts its slammed or thrown shut by housekeepers. The cleaning seems to stop early too because at 3 pm we left and returned at midnight and still wasn't cleaned. For the price I would stay at a Westin or a W because this place is very poorly managed. We asked to change rooms and the front desk guy was very sweet but he didn't help resolve the problem or even apologize probably because management hasn't trained him to do so. The only place to eat breakfast is at their overpriced restaurant where the food takes forever and comes out cold. We were here for a wedding and one of the girls at our table had a live worm attached to her sea bass. Some improvements need to be made to justify the price of this place or they should lower the price to $100 a night. If you're coming to relax stay elsewhere.
If you stay in a room on the west side of the Portofino Hotel you'll enjoy a nice view of the inlet/ocean and the boats/boards cruising by. The room I stayed in had newer carpet and paint throughout, however, the ceramic tub had rust around the drain control and the surrounding tile needed some repair work. The bed was comfortable and everything one would need in a room is available. Overall, it was a clean, attractive room close to beaches and the South bay coastline. Redondo Beach is a good distance away from the 405 freeway, and that may be good or bad depending on your plans.
The food is very pricey and they don't provide a complementary breakfast. But everything else was amazing and it is within walking distance of alot including a boardwalk and beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone unless they had a tight budget.
Beautiful hotel, stayed in one of the deluxe rooms which was not only spacious but gorgeously decorated. Yummy coffee available in the morning. Lounge area is lovely with a view of the ocean, they had live music in the evening. Really liked that they had complimentary beach cruisers available to hotel guests. My husband and I spent a whole day biking along Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach. Bike path is easy, be sure to take advantage of that earlier in the morning before they run out!
I have stayed at this hotel 3 times and I am about to visit this upcoming summer. I first stayed here when I was 16, I came to LA for my 16th birthday! This hotel is beautiful, great location and AMAZING staff. They treat you like royalty. Either side of the hotel you stay on, you will get a beautiful view. I mostly love the fact that this hotel is out of the LA busyness. I love downtown LA but I would not want to stay in the midst of it. This hotel is perfect. FUN TIP: Rent a bike and ride bikes along Redondo Beach. I do it every morning. Great way to get fresh air, exercise, sight see and find a good restaurant along the way to eat at! Will NEVER stay anywhere else but here in LA! :)
My reservation said ocean front room… When I got there "they didn't have any left" then to top it all off… The AC didn't work in the room… Totally miserable stay. Management needs to know… Because the location is awesome… They just need to keep up the place more.
Fabulous hotel! Sarah took wonderful care of us to make sure we had a gorgeous ocean view mini suite. The hotel's decor is stunning, nautical, in soft blues with beautiful moldings. Beds are comfy with plush duvets and lots of pillows. The food at the restaurant was excellent, too. We'll definitely come back and stay longer! Loved going on the balcony in the morning to see the sea lions and people paddle boardin. I'll be trying that next time!
Stayed here Sept 17-19. Excellent hotel. Hotel staff went overboard to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Claire at the front desk was outstanding. She first noticed that we were booked for two queen beds and asked if we would prefer a king sized bed. She proceeded to get us the king sized bed and also got us an ocean view room. Beautiful place, views and hospitality. They really are top notch! Will for sure come back. Can't thank you enough. Portofino so much better than the Crowne Plaza across the way. We stayed there first before settling here and so glad we did. Thanks again from New Jersey!
We are from Boise, Idaho and after a 2 day stay at Disneyland we took the kids to Hollywood and then headed to the coast. We were just winging it and after checking out Hollywood, Rodeo Drive we started looking for a hotel to stay in. Well the wife found this place on the smart phone and we booked it for the night. The place is super nice and the next day we checked out after breakfast, but asked if we could still use the free bicycles even though we had checked out. They had no problem with that because they knew we had got to the hotel very late the night before. We rode the free beach cruiser bikes and my kids ended up playing on the beach and getting in the Ocean one last time before we headed back to Idaho. This is where the story shows how great this place is. My daughter ended up getting some sand in her private area and when we got back to the hotel she was in tears and even though we had checked out 2 hours ago they let us back in the room and let her take a shower. This saved her and our family because we were headed on a 7 hour trip to Las-Vegas to stay the night on the way back to Boise, Idaho. I can not tell you how much this meant to our family. I will say that the hotel building and plants around it ware amazing and we didn't have to pay for parking. Thanks again for letting my daughter back in the room! And we hope to come stay for a longer visit some day!
I arrived at this hotel about 45 minutes after landing in LAX airport. The pictures online left me with huge expectations, safe to say they were completely fulfilled and surpassed. When I had arrived, the front desk had informed us that the elevator was not working properly, so as a result they would upgrade our room to the suite at no extra charge. Kevin (the bellhop) helped us with our bags and showed us our room. He took a minute to inform us about everything interesting going on in the area, as well as food to eat and places to see. Kevin was so polite to us and made the entire stay amazing with his suggestions. The rest of the staff were extremely helpful and polite as well. The room was in perfect condition, everything neatly folded and clean. The view on the balcony was amazing also. The room service came promptly and the food was extremely good for the price. I will most definitely stay at this hotel again when I am in the area for sure. I had high expectations that were greatly surpassed. The only negative about it would be paying $25 for parking, but the quality of the hotel makes it extremely easy to ignore that.
The best Staffed and well run Hotel I have ever stayed in. Called in last minute to book a room. They hooked me up with a Honey moon Suite. Free of charge! Who does that? I have never stayed at a better hotel in my entire life. Christina and Sebastian at the front desk. Thank you.
This venue is on point. I really felt that I had a 100k wedding for 70% less than that. The staff was excellent. To be honest I barely saw them throughout the ceremony but somehow in a matter of 10 minutes all dinner was served for 130 guests. Not only that but they kept refilling my drink and my husbands drink. We never had to go to the bar. It was simply incredible. This was my dream day and they played a huge part in making sure I had a dream wedding. Plus, hello! Who can beat the stunning view. I can go on and on but I'm telling you right now. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! Not one problem occurred. They were fantastic. Shelley was the best. Kim was incredible. Together they are a perfect team.
The hotel is nice, the staff is friendly, the free bike share is cool. I dislike the extra $40/day in parking/Wi-Fi fees though.
Lovely sea view, clean and well equipped. Great value and price.
WARNING OF OCEAN VIEW! There is no ocean view. I paid for an upgrade just to be disappointed. The "Ocean view" is a view of there marina pit. It's closed off from the ocean. It's an area the length of the hotel. False advertising. Check out Google maps satellite image to confirm. Get the Marina view.
Love love love the location off the mainland! gives a feeling of added security. must have the ocean facing rooms; view, sunsets and rises, barking sealions, ocean breezes, must I go on!? location location location! beaches all around, fishermans wharf and boardwalk are awesome with great little shops and eats (stay away from R10) staff is very friendly and attentive while also accommodating most needs. the only negative I would say is the complimentary inclusions with room are sparse — no Wi-Fi, no parking, no cont breaky, etc. All added at a $$$. 2nd time here — — will definitely come back! :).
It was out first visit to LA and we stayed at this hotel for 9 nights (husband, wife, 6 year old and 4 year old sons). For the entire time we stayed there, no one in our party got proper sleep. The AC was turned off (presumably because it was December) so we had to sleep with the door open, otherwise it got up to 82 degrees in the room; but our room faced the marina and hotel entrance so, with the door open, we got all the noise from the restaurant, including noisy truck deliveries, and vehicles from the drive-way below. We therefore asked to be moved (after about 3 nights), and they put us right next to the elevator! Needless to say, it was very noisy having to listen to the elevator go up and down, day and night. And, unfortunately, we could not move to another hotel because nothing decent in the area had availability for all the nights we were in LA. I have stayed in a lot of hotels all around the world and this was by far the most horrible experience I have ever had. We also ordered room service one night and the clam chowder was separated and a greasy, unappetizing mess, which I ate a small bit of and had terrible consequences the next day. Perhaps this hotel was, at one time, a great place to stay but it is certainly no longer anywhere near that. It is not worth what they charge for it and the rooms could use some modernization. There are nicer hotels close to the peninsula that one can stay at and get better value for money and greater comforts.
We just stayed there April 27th, 2013 to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary and had a great time. We had dinner at the lobby bar, where you can see the sunset. Chris (our bartender) was great and made our experience very special. I read some 1 year old reviews before staying there that were critical of the room quality. Obviously things have changed dramatically (remodeling, etc. ). The entire staff was very helpful and went out of their way to make us fully enjoy our stay. I recommend the 2nd floor ocean view rooms. I highly recommend this hotel and restaurant as a great place for a getaway. We live locally, and after a one night stay, Peggy (my wife) said she felt like we had been gone for a week.
