Lion's Rest Hotel

Found by chance and so glad we did! Had a wonderful three nights here. They bent over backwards to make our stay the very best. Fabulous clean and comfy rooms, gorgeous food and superb atmosphere. And a great surfing lesson with Lucky! I really hope to be back! Thank you, all of you!

We absolutely loved our time here! It was so chilled, friendly the staff were lovely and worked really hard! Where our every need was catered for! The special curry made by Dinesh was out of this world! Our 9 year old can now stand on a surf board thanks to Lucky’s excellent teaching and patient manner! Highly recommend 5 star rating!

Reviewing restaurant only as we did not stay there (but it looked nice from the outside, right in coconut beach). Had great seafood pasta there.

Loved it! We felt felt welcomed and accomodated for, the staff were excellent and the food was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The location was nice as quiet and perfect for experienced surfers with a break right out the front, yet close enough to other breaks for a variety of levels or conditions. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it, can't wait to come back next year!

I love local Sri Lankan food but sometimes you need a break from rice and curry. I have tried a few other places looking for some decent salads etc but Lion's Rest is the only place that has impressed so far. It is a hotel but the restaurant is open to anyone. The staff are friendly and welcoming and really make sure you have everything you need. Funnily enough they actually did the best take on a Sri Lankan breakfast (Dahl, coconut sambol, coconut roti and string hoppers) I've had so far. Vibe is relaxed but the staff don't miss a beat.

Reviewing the restaurant only, as we did not book accommodation here, but we would have if it was within our budget, and we ate here every single day. As far as I can tell, after a bit of trial and error around the Weligama area, this is the only establishment that knows how to make a goddamn salad. Literally have not had a bad meal, the food is reasonably priced and the menu is pretty vegan friendly. The Sri Lankan breakfast was the best so far, the juices and smoothies are fresh, the beer is cold, the coffee is hot, and the service is great. Lion's Rest has a really good vibe, and somehow for such a small place it never feels crowded. Highly recommended.

Great cosy place with perfect rooms, awesome kitchen / food, very nice staff and instructive and therefor recommendable surf lessons with Lucky.
