My husband and I had a lovely meal at the golden lion! Our burgers were so delicious, top quality and full of flavour. Great wine too and brilliant service, thank you golden lion for such a great evening, I would highly recommend.

Highly recommend The Golden Lion Hotel special thanks to Caroline who helped organise our post Wedding Celebration Party. Nothing was too much trouble and the evening was a huge success thank you so much. The food was lovely and the function room hosted our party perfectly. Friendly welcoming staff in a cosy quaint environment, busy yet no queuing. Sunday lunch was delicious plentiful tasty filling and well presented. I had the Roast Beef — 3 good slices — (opted not to have Yorkshire Pudding — carb cutting) ; with crispy Roast potato, my wife vouched for the smooth mashed potato, with Cabbage (Summer & Red), Carrots (Cauliflower Cheese which neither of us chose but looked nice & creamy), as much gravy as you like. Various sauces (horseradish mustards etc. Stuffing balls and nice hot plates. Was full by the end of this course £14+; could have had a delicious looking starter (Leek & Potato Soup, Smoked Salmon Blinis or a vegetarian option (£17+ for 2 courses). I opted for a Lemon Drizzle Cheescake with cream and Strawberries whilst my wife went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, loved it — light fluffy cream cheese subtly flavoured mmm…. (£20+ if you could manage 3 courses). Low ceilings though at 5’11 I was okay my 6’3 Brother in law might be challenged until seated lol.

Went here recently after a recommendation to try their vegan options and were very pleasantly surprised. Welcoming and friendly staff, a good choice of food and drinks and excellent food at fair prices. Local village location and atmosphere. We'll worth a visit!

A meal for 3 the place was very quiet but took a long time for our food to be served I sat wondering how bad it would be if they was busy? Staff are friendly enough and welcoming the food was very good but maybe a tad over priced which I don’t mind if the service is good. Just let it down a bit.

Nice little pub in quiet location served some great food. Very nice for a little Sunday drive and stop in for lunch.

I went to the golden lion on saturday the 18th of august with five other people and we were very disappointed with our meal. We only ordered two starters which were the scallops, when they arrived there was three scallops but actually one scallop cut across to make three so they were really thin and the pea puree was cold (if it was supposed to be then I apologize). Luckily it tasted lovely but I felt a bit conned. The main course, I ordered liver, when it came (one hour and ten minutes after we ordered) it looked really nice so I tried the mash potato and it wasn't even luke warm so I asked the waitress to take it back which she did after a couple of minutes she brought it back so again I tried the mash and there was no difference apart from the fact that the plate was so hot I couldn't touch so i'm guessing that the chef thinks that putting it on a burning hot plate will heat the food up. Three of the other people in my group had cold mash as well but said they would put up with it. Also the veg on there dishes were cold as well. All you ask for when ordering a meal is for it to taste good and be hot. Everything everybody ordered tasted lovely but apart from the fish and chips one person had ordered everything else was cold or just luke warm. As there only about 20 people in the restaurant I dont feel this was good enough and our bill was 140 quid but that did include drinks it seemed a bit poor. As the food tasted ok our score is 5 out 10 Thanks.

This is a regular place I go with the family for the Sunday carvery. Staff are friendly and the food is well cooked with usually 3 choices of meat and a good selection of vegetables.

Food and atmosphere was great, but service was slow.

My husband and I have been coming here for a few years now for Sunday lunch in the summer time which usually came to £12 each and was very nice lovely staff. This time however was completely different my husband had fish and chips which were very nice I had a mushroom square pasty with a medley of veg cappuccino and 1lager. This all came to £37 which I thought was very expensive. I did email to ask had they got the price wrong but I got no response. So unfortunately here is my review. I feel the new prices should of been explained as they price it now on a two course or three course. I only ever have the main meal. So if I was charged for a two or three course they should have said that and made it clear. They didn’t.

Spur of the moment decision to have a meal here. Chose the carvery which was very nice. Staff friendly — if in the area would go again.

Loved it here. The people were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks menu. We were staying there on business but would happily stay with work or family. We will be visiting this hotel again.

I cannot rave enough about this place. My husband and I go as often as we can for their Sunday carvery and it is out of this world. The meat is cooked perfectly and there's always an incredible array of vegetables (cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, leeks in white sauce etc). The Yorkshire puddings are always cooked to perfection and there's always crackling to go with the pork. The service is wonderful and all the staff are warm and welcoming. For £13 it's an absolute bargain! Definitely worth a visit :)

We had a lovely stay here last night for a wedding at another location. Staff were very pleasant. We had a four poster bedroom and spa bath it was bliss! The room was quiet… perfect. The breakfast was excellent. Definitely recommend a stay here. Would like to visit again to try the evening meal the steak cooked on volcano rocks sounds amazing. Thank you again.

Would definitely stay again. The twin room we had was a little dark (as all the furniture was very dark) and it felt a bit claustrophobic, but having read a review where someone had mentioned the same, I was expecting it. However, it was very clean and there was everything we needed. Lovely clean white linen and proper size bath towels… excellent! The shower was a bit temperamental (room 113) and the light didn't work over the bathroom sink, but, overall, and considering it was one of the hottest days of the year, we were very comfortable. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly… reception, bar and restaurant. The food was excellent… apart from my burger which was disappointing. I'd asked for it to be pink/medium, but it was very well done, and tasted and looked very dense and processed… but everything else we had was very good. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and would definitely choose you again… and would definitely recommend.

Pleasant staff, very good service and a nice sizes room with a modern bathroom. The food in the restaurant was perfect. I made a reservation for 4 nights, but could only stay one.
I regret, because this country side hotel gas it all: flair, good looks, and fine staff. I recommend!

Even though we were the only ones in the restaurant, the service was slow and pretty sporadic. Our son's burger was still raw in the middle and bloody, asked them just to recook the burger only — he ended up waiting another 20+ minutes. To be fair they had cooked him a full meal again. The chips had obviously been fried in the same oil as fish as that was all you could taste. My "parmesan encrusted" chicken was chicken covered in a rubbery cheese and not that pleasant to eat. Our youngest son was sitting on a bench with seat cushions that weren't attached in anyway. He slipped off and banged his head. When we politely suggested to the manager that maybe attaching them with velcro etc — he basically fobbed us off. It was supposed to be a family treat that really wasn't that nice and quite dear for the portion sizes.

We live local and must say we have always had good service and food at the pub whenever we go. Staff are always friendly and chatty. We tend to go late evenings when it is not that busy.

Because it's not that great.

Another 5 star plus for our stay can't fault anything thanks guys and girls for another fabulous welcome for hubby and I see you soon.

Very Friendly Pub Cavery lunch very good quality. Must admit I was not impressed with the Golden Lion price for large glass of Soda and Lime. When I checked my change from £5.00 I had 0.55p so the drink cost me £4.45p Glass of Tap Water next time.

Waited over half an hour for our meal and then got a small helping. Not amused. Had some nice meals in the past so not sure why we suddenly got treated like second rate citizens all of a sudden.

This is our second visit to the golden lion. Our room was clean and comfortable and the ambiance in the restaurant was really good. The chef should be congratulated. The menu was comprehensive and superbly presented as well as being delicious. There will definitely be a third visit.

We found this very welcoming and tranquil place to stay. Def come back again. Food and service excellent.
