Excellent service by Agustin, the best mixology of the hotel, is the best that the hotel 👌🏼💕 has of service.

The attention of the staff leaves much to be desired. At reception the service is the worst. Two days battling for towels because they don't have enough. In general I do not recommend many details. The only good thing is that it is close to Fifth Avenue.

This is an amazing resort! most of the buildings are in a beautiful lush jungle and as you walk towards the beach it opens up into an incredible view of the ocean! The rooms were clean and just perfect for our family of 4. We enjoyed the TV in our down time and appreciated all the programming offered. I can not say enough about the hard working people here! Everybody always greeted us with a smile, always took care of us no matter what and were willing to help make our trip the best vacation we've ever had. I wish I had caught all their names but it truly was every last staff member. Restaurants: I read some really terrible reviews for the Italian restaurant. I'm not sure why, the food was fantastic. We went 3 times during our 7 night stay and we tried almost everything on the menu. Not one item disappointed us. Our favorite was the Risotto and filet. The buffet offered a variety of foods. Even my pickiest eater (only eats fries, nuggets, burgers) found things she liked. The Mexican restaurant was also good we just ran out of time to fully enjoy it. The icecream parlor is a must visit. Homemade icecream/ sorbet everyday between 4-6. Also, the snack bar was a life saver inbetween meals and the tacos they serve at night are the best! Last but definitely not least! Matias at the Reef Marina helped us book our first ever snorkeling tour! He was incredibly helpful and kind. He was really good at teaching the kids and joking around while doing so.

The worst experience at this shady hotel! Especially transportation is a joke. Tyler at the reception desk does not care at all, especially when transportation was already booked AND paid for… Do not recommend to anyone!

My family of 13 and I loved our week here, the resort was stunning and the staff were super fun and welcoming. The activities were entertaining and great for my whole family. Make sure to tell Horacio that he made the trip extra special and always put a smile on my face when I would run into him🥳 I will be coming back in the future! 🤩

Definitely wouldn’t recommend had the worst experience there…. The food was nasty, pool wasn’t cleaned enough, check in was horrible, and definitely understaffed I can go on and on…. Thankfully me and my family know how to make the best out of terrible situations.

I would not stay there again, the quality of the food is not good, lack of staff, and the one there is no good attitude, lack cleanliness in general the hotel is dirty, the internet does not work, they leave much to be desired. I am happy to return home was an experience that I would not like to repeat again.

We spent some unforgettable days, the people in very friendly, they looked after us wonderfully.

Best advice when arriving: they bring you to a desk to explain the map of the resort, but they offer you a day pass, massages, anything you want to visit their other location, it’s a SCAM. It’s part of the Lending Club’s way to get you over to Coco Beach and make you sit through a “presentation” about timeshares. Martin told us we never needed to show our debit cards or IDS, he said simply just flashing them would do when entering Coco, such a calculated lie. They wanted to see our ids and cards flat on the table as we entered. They make it seem you will enjoy breakfast and then talk about the hotel, but they assign you someone to eat with you, it was not relaxing at all. We wasted our first day on vacation with the intention of hearing about their sister resorts faculties, to be drilled about our finances and what we spend on vacation. We were told we could say no after the presentation and walk away to enjoy our massage and day pass, when we said no we were yelled at, and asked why we even came. We came because we wanted to learn about the sister resort, not to waste our first day and listen to their hotel currency and 30 year time share. We were told the people in the lobby make money off you for getting you to accept the presentation, the coworkers at coco beach trashed their employees at reef, calling them money grabbers and liars. They told us nothing is free and it was a lesson to be learned. They began to get accusatory for us wasting their time.

I definitely do not recommend it, their food, dinner is the same every day, the service is not good they lack courtesy, attention, hospitality and variety in food.

Comfortable, economical, accessible, excellent service of the work staff, very nice beach, excellent buffets, good quality of abitaciones; highly recommended to spend the holidays!

This is our 7th year staying at The Reef Playacar. We absolutely love it! From the moment you get off the shuttle you feel like your at home. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Several staff members remember us from our past visits which makes us feel valued. Mary, Antonio, Paulino, Felix, Octavio, Humberto (just to name a few of the excellent staff), we look forward too seeing all your of your faces next year! Muchas gracias amigos!

Very relaxed atmosphere. Felix at bar Nico was incredible. Always smiling and made sure we were relaxed. Rooms were always tended to, and supplied with all we would need.

I want thank Alex, very attentive to all need. The house keeping staff 💕 the attention to details especially the towel artistry 😂. My favorite was the birthday cake and the elephant. Even though we live in Playa del Carmen, we spent two nights at the Reef Playacar. The facilities and beach were great. Great location. We chose the all inclusive package and honestly would not do so again. The limited food selection was not what was expected.

Amazing food and lots of varieties. I have been in mexico before but I love this place. Safe environment as well.

One of the worst hotels I have ever been. Extremely bad service, overbooked NYE buffet without sufficient space for all the guests, dirty and old rooms. My girlfriend got an allergy attack because of non-fresh seafood at the restaurant. The waiter said it’s fresh. NYE was completely spoilt. Never again this awful hotel!

Amazing resort. The beaches were gorgeous and the resort itself felt very tropical and lush. The all inclusive package included top shelf drinks, the food was delicious, the spa had many affordable options and my therapist was fantastic, all the staff and activities were off the charts. We were also able to visit the other properties near by as part of our all inclusive features. I will definitely be returning soon.

Excellent attention very to my taste, not much variety in the food I feel that for the price I could make more variety and quality, and regarding the rooms there were no coffee makers or glasses in case you wanted to enjoy in your room of a coffee and not have to go to the restaurant or the bar for a drink. That bad point for the hotel.

We just spent a week at The Reef Playacar and it was amazing. The staff were very friendly, the resort was clean and they offered a great selection of food and drinks. Best of all, the resort was on a smaller scale which allowed you to have everything within close proximity cantered around a unique rain forest atmosphere. We absolutely loved the beach and can’t wait to return!

Just stayed there for a week. A fantastic hotel, really beautiful, it's like you sleep in a jungle. The staff is extremely friendly, thank you all so much for the great services.

Very rude staff they were not welcoming or nice at all. The food was awful! The beach is nice and the rooms are very basic and the ac does not work very well the water in the bathrooms don’t get hot. The previous year we stayed at Allegro playacar and it was fantastic! Avoid the Reef at all costs!

The best all inclusive resort in playacar. Friendly staff, has all the amenities that the local resorts offer, gorgeous layout, peaceful and fun. Separate pools and bars, littered amongst a well maintained nature strip. You will experience everything playa del Carmen has to offer, walking distance to everything including 5th avenue. Beside the beach, world class dive centre with water sports included. Cannot recommend this resort enough we always return and miss it when we are not here.

No extracurricular activities. Very boring. No nightlife. No entertainment. Food Choice not good.

Beautiful resort with amazing staff. Activities with Edwardo are always fun. Edwardo took us on a great tour of 5th Avenue. We visited historic church, archeological ruins, and souvenir shops. It was an exciting bicycle excursion. We greatly appreciated the stories and the company of this knowledgable, and polite young gentleman.
We made sure to never miss the 4 PM Zumba with Richi. Richi for sure is the best dancer in Reef Playacar and the nicest young man all around. All stuff makes an extra effort to ensure that guest have a great time.
The grill station in the buffet deserves a special recognition. In the morningZ the make omelets to order and in the afternoon and evening they prepare fresh seafood with veggies of your choices, delicious.

Thee resort is very nice and clean. Cottages located in a beautiful garden. Everyone will find something for themselves here. Very nice and family atmosphere, everything is well cared for. We havent benn for a couple of years due to a family illness and we miss it! love the atmosphere, staff is wonderful, you can have quiet time or join the crowd znd the food is good especially italian restaurant! Cant wait to go back.

DO NOT TAKE THE UPGRADE you will not be happy. The villas are beautiful. It's like being in a forest. The beach it's not good for swimming "it's the mother of all seaweed". The workers are great. The spa needs better music not sure about the religious one they played and it was too loud, it will also help if they had a more experience massage therapist. If you're offered a discount or a facial, take the discount. You can put lotion on your face yourself Food was not the best. The Mexican restaurant shrimps tacos are good. Buffet lunch time it's the worst. Nothing to do at evening/night at the complex. Do not pay $150+ coco bongo disco or any other they will offer. Go into town the Hotel will take you, free! The town by Reef 28 it's beautiful and safe. Walk, shop, dance, drink, eat, live music, very fun… and remember don't drink the water and that smell that comes from the shower when you open the water… it's the water Don't drink.

I loved it here the room was amazing the service was awesome I like the fact that you was able to get to try new and different foods the breakfast buffet was always delicious and you always had so much to choose from they always make sure that you were comfortable and everyone was always a great help the next time I go back to Mexico I would definitely be staying here.

I love staying at The Reef Playacar when we visit Playa Del Carmen. Great place to relax by the pool or beach. Quick easy access to the beach. Lots of different activities happening throughout the day. Good food and drink options. The staff are all helpful and nice. The resort is clean. My only complaints would be the alcoholic drinks are really weak. And, at the end of the day I want to relax in the room and watch SportsCenter in English. Extreamly limited access to English speaking TV channels.

The grounds were excellent. Plenty of beach chairs and a good amount of cabanas. Since we get up pretty early we were able to get a cabana every day. There is a lot of natural beauty here. The room was modest. The bed was moderately comfortable, and the rest of the furniture is not comfortable at all. The food was barely edible. It was a struggle to find something that was sanitary and healthy. Even the Mexican restaurant (open only for dinner) had no flavor. The presentation was nice, but the food was flavorless. The house red tasted like mop water.

Nice Hotel, we had a free pass to the hotel as we lived on against it in apartments and we had a card. The hotel is very well-groomed comfortable sunbeds wide beach.

Overall a great stay! Loved the room. Service was excellent. The spa services were great as well. Dining was okay, it would have been nuce for there to be a 24/7 dining option or at least more hours for food. I cannot speak more highly of the dive shop — the instructors and DMs were some of the greatest I've been diving with and the diving itself was exceptional.

A very nice hotel that offers a lush garden if you are looking for a shady place. The Essensauwahl is good and plentiful. (especially the paella by the pool). There are plenty of loungers by the pool and on the beach. The staff is mostly friendly. The "coffee time" is highly recommended. Our room was well equipped and was thoroughly cleaned every day. We were here about 10 years ago and we liked it back then. The reception staff could be friendlier.

I went with my daughters and granddaughter. Beautiful Hotel. The staff were very helpful. All very clean. Nice rooms but would have to consider giving the rooms on the ground floor for families with baby. Except that little detail all very well. I would return without hesitation. Thank you!

The hotel is beautiful, in the midst of the vegetation and with a small cenote that makes it even prettier. The service very good and the food common to all the hotels, although there are meats and wines that do not enter the all inclusive. Highly recommended.

The stay here was with my wife last year. It was really nice and nice all over the hotel, its staff, its cleanliness, its food, its rooms and the beach; Just spectacular. Anyway, we'll go back to The Reef Playacar.

Human-sized hotel 15 minutes walk from Playa del Carmen (not lost along the main road like most of the great palaces of this coast), absolutely perfect (2 storey maisonettes), with unlimited ice cream, varied cuisine and beach at the foot of the hotel.

We get in free with our condo rental in Playacar. The staff was super nice and helpful. The facilities are beautiful and clean. And the pools are really nice. To eat, though, you have to buy the all-day pass ($50/adult and $25/small children), so if you're not going to be there all day, it's expensive, even with the free pass. And the beach itself was dirty, with small garbage and cigarette butts, etc. Left around on the sand. Not sure that was the resort's fault, but it did detract from the experience.

Paradise Place to rest after visiting Mexico as not much to see around. Only downside lack of animation especially in the evening. Ideal for families or people who want tranquility.

We wanted to spend a nice day at the reef Playacar as a premium guest at the Reef Coco Beach. After an hour we were back in our hotel.
Unfriendly staff! Especially in the bar on the beach. Suddenly it was closed. The pool bar was supposedly only open from the water side. So if I get nothing to drink at 34 degrees and full sun in a so-called all inclusive resort, then I feel fucked.
By the way, I have not seen a toilet with a glass door like here at the "Beach Bar" around the world. Respect.

Awesome Place to be. There is no comparable resort in playacar. They didn't killed the rain forest, instead they built the houses in the forest and connected them with a wooden way. Also really friendly and nice service staff. Great food, european kitchen, but Mexican kitchen too, and world class chefs. This is the place to be of you want to visit Playacar.

We enjoyed our stay at The Reef. It’s a good value for the price. It’s not five star but we enjoyed our stay. It’s beautiful and a great location. It’s walking distance to the ferry to Cozumel and close to entertainment options and cenotes. The beach set up was great with nice chairs and beds. The pool was very nice. Our main complaint was our room smelled musty and moldy. We told the staff but nothing was done about it. Also, we paid for a king size bed and the bed was very small, not even queen size. The drinks are free with the inclusive package but were just ok, food was just ok. Service was good but inconsistent. That being said, for the price, we were happy with it.

Great ambience, very helpful and friendly staff. Limited fare for a vegetarian at the restaurants, but they gladly whipped up meals for the missus and me when we were there. Great beach and pools, with lots of seating along both. Easy access to Plays del Carmen (cycling or cab). Only downside is slightly dated rooms, but the other pros outweigh this one con, imo.

It is a huge hotel with green spaces practically all over the place, it also has several small rivers whose descent creates a special soundtrack for all the roads of the place. It has an amazing beach club, very clean, perfect to have a good time at the seaside. Very good bar service and very rich restaurant and with an extensive variety, the atmosphere at night is quite relaxing, ideal for a romantic walk.

Our stay here was very good, we enjoyed it. Beach is great no rock whatsoever. Morning peaceful waves of the Caribbean. I would come here again. Here is only one buffet and two restaurants. If you want the sergeants to be helpful to you then you got to tip them. There were few day that I stayed closer to my time to leave where I ran out of cash to tip for them being helpful, the service was bad for last couple day. But when I was giving great tips they were always smiling. Nevertheless that wouldn’t stop me from coming here again. Love the beach here and long walk at the ocean.

Beautiful place where nature and comfort blend. The attention is excellent. The facilities and services are very good. The only negative thing is that the access to Wi-Fi is payment, and quite expensive. You eat and you take it very well. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are plentiful, as well as snacks. The drinks are excellently prepared.

If you get the opportunity to go here please don't get sucked into buying into the vacation club. Everything I have experienced with them since doing so 2 years ago has been nothing but pain. They make promises about what type of access you will have, how nice your rooms will be and they don't deliver. The room you want will never be available, the airfare reimbursement, still waiting on it and we have been back from our trip for over two months. Worst attempt ever at providing a steady vacation place for my family. Does anyone know how to get out of it and possibly recoup my wasted money? I almost feel like they provide the worst service so you get frustrated and stop using the vacation club "benefits" but they already have your money so why would they care.

Beautiful grounds. Beautiful rooms. Good food. Bought the honeymoon package which included breakfast in bed and Mr and Mrs t-shirts. However did not receive either of those things everything else was good.

2nd passage to the Reef Playa car. The place is very well maintained. Negative: Catering The dishes are always the same, and the activities very centered for seniors.

The beach is beautiful and the pools are nice. There are plenty of activities and my kids really enjoyed the Kids Club. The food is typical buffet style but good. In general the staff really tries to take care of you. The only reason for three stars and not five is because it seemed like you got a different answer for questions depending on who you ask. The Wi-Fi is not included and when we bought it we paid one price for a week and another couple paid a daily price which added up to more. Also, there are two nicer restaurants with dress codes and the dress code depended on who you asked. One other note for English speakers, the staff's English varies widely. Not everyone will be able to communicate with you unless you know some very basic Spanish. Also, most guests seemed to be Spanish speaking as well. Overall it was a very good experience. We enjoyed our time with only few frustrations.

Security is too problematic. No empathy shown by staff. This hotel has an agreement with hotel Paseo del Sol to let in guests from that hotel. You need a guest card for every 4 people over 2 years old. The staff contradicted each other a few times letting us in and then trying to kick us out. We had four adults and two 4 year olds so we had to call Paseo del Sol to get a new card. We got it after a few minutes but not before the chief of security confronted us in front of everyone and told us that "it'd be better if we didn't come back". Yes, you read that right. The beach is nice but I'd go with a hotel with better customer service.

This resort has been amazing. The rooms are gorgeous, and set up as little villas. The staff has been wonderful. We have 2 children under 4, and there has been plenty to keep them entertained. The food here has been wonderful too.

Beautiful setting. Splendid private beach and the only one with parasols. Abundant food, varied and very good. 1/4th hour from the centre of Playa del Carmen, by the beach or the parallel street. Otherwise taxi to 90pesos, or 4euros. Close to Mayan and snorkling sites in the midst of turtles. Let's Go!

We were guests in 2012 for the honeymoon was a beautiful stay. Perfect little crowded place is very convenient. Staff always courteous is available.

I took my daughter here for her graduation gift and if was the best experience we could have ever asked for! We were there over Memorial weekend and never got too crowded or crazy. The staff at this resort was beyond amazing! Mario (Lobby bar) is very helpful and nice and amazing! Have him make you HIS Gin and Tonic! Humberto at the pool bar is great! He always had a smile! The resort was beautiful! The beach was gorgeous! And we will definitely go back! I will tell you that the only bad part of this experience was the lady who was in charge of Guest Services! I feel bad for anyone who has to encounter her! She is rude, unapproachable, and unprofessional! The location is nice, it has an incredible view to the sea. And The facility was clean, cozy and lovely.

This resort is absolutely beautiful … part rainforest, part beach paradise. The staff is WONDERFUL. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The A/C in the room was ice cold and we always had anything we needed. However, the beds are very firm and stiff. The amenities and activities offered are great. (We especially loved the bike rentals and sailboats) My only gripe is the quality of the food and drinks. The buffet restaurant is the best option for food. They also have an Italian place (not terrible) and a Mexican place. The Mexican restaurant costs extra money and it had the worst food at the resort. Very bland, very basic. If you want good drinks, you will need to order liquor and mixers separate. Then mix them yourself. But the cervezas are always cold and refreshing. Overall, we had an incredible experience here. There is a beautiful beach, great entertainment, and it is so close to everything (even Tulum! ). I highly recommend.

Having a great time. Nice people working hard and they remember your name and drinks. They even made a new cocktail they didn't even know called "Swimmingpool" just by asking they made it. It are very kind people and they try to make the best of your vacation. Loved the jacuzzi :) would be nice if there were more jacuzzis.

They have a dress code, had to wear pants and closed shoes, but it appears Americans did not met the dress code) Beach Access: 9

Wow, where do I start? How about the worst thing that has happened to me on vacation… I was at the top bar with the party I had came with. (we came here for a wedding) we were having a great time. A girlfriend and I had gone to the bathroom that was in the bar area. As we were washing our hands a man that works at the resort (I knew he worked there since all staff wear a uniform) came under the shutter doors in the women's bathroom grabbed me by the waist and started thrusting on me! After we had told him to stop he pulled out his genitals and started to show it to us and started playing with himself. No I am not kidding! We ran out screaming and the disgusting man ran… We of course told the resort. That night they said they had cameras and to come back the next morning, so we did. That next morning they claimed they had no cameras?! Only one guy handled it professionally. By the time I left it was still unresolved. This sick man still works there. Investigation still continues. Next… We had paid for the premium package. An extra $20 a day per person. It includes access to all bars and restaurants and top shelf liquor. When we would go to the bars they would be out of premium alcohol. And we would go to the "exclusive" bars and they would be serving and letting people in who DIDN't pay the premium alcohol. No point for the premium. They would't refund us for this at all. They said they "don't work that way" They are short staffed.

I have to admit, reading the reviews while waiting in the Charlotte airport might have made my wife and I glance at each other ask ponder if what we signed up for was really a good idea, especially the Google reviews. Granted, I'm not a seasoned nor spoiled travel snob, so if you are then you might want to stop reading now. This was our both first trip to Mexico, and other than knowing not to drink from the bathroom sink we thought we had the trip planned well. Thankfully, bottled water was provided in the room. The Reef Playacar is nestled in what feels sort of like a jungle, but the front portion is quite close to the main road. Upon our arrival we were greeted at the door with warm smiles and welcomes. We checked into our room, but Orlando at the front desk informed us that the only available rooms only had twin double beds… not the sort of thing you really want on our anniversary. He was quick to assure us that we could be moved to a room with a king bed as soon as one became available. Having had paid a little extra in the Bahamas before for a "room upgrade" my wife suggested we go back and check to see if we could repeat our previous good fortune. Apparently the majority of the resorts do this there, but we were directed to the concierge service desk, where they quickly tried to get us to go look at time shares… no thanks. The next morning when we went to ask about a room with a King, they already had one ready for us.

Worst experience ever. Please do not waste time or money on this place. I purchased package through expedia, pictures looked decent everything promised sounded great. I was really looking forward to making memories and having a great time with my family since we had not had a vacation in over 3 years. Purchased premium room package (gold band), I felt robbed, there is nothing different than other bands red, blue, etc. Drinks are horrible food buffet isn't that great, room was old, restroom had mold, I had no warm water for 5 days, door was broken it wouldn't lock properly, the restroom smelled so bad (wet nasty odor). Manuel at the front desk is so inefficient, would never resolve any issue almost felt as they thought "they are tourist they will not came back, they will not see us again and gave us horrible service"… My mother had an allergic reaction to a food, she was non-coherent, really really sick could have died and there was no one there that could help because they were untrained, we had to call for a doctor to come in from out of town that took over 45 minutes to get there, in an emergency situation where a child can slip and get hurt someone can literally die. Someone pooped in the pool they verbalized it would get drained over night. Pool was never drained or cleaned the feces was just scooped out. Old resort to say the least if services was properly rendered and they actually cared about happy costumers, they are understaffed and it is so ineffectively managed.

Really an excellent and highly recommended, hotel only me gustaria busiest night, the terrace bar to become dance ;).

I think that if something does not recommend the hotel would be, but the others is excellent, the facilities are really in general I loved the place. Overall attention I received from the staff was friendly, but very little warm and spoke, rarely responded to the thank you denada, few you received with a smile or a friendly gesture, the maids had the hook please do not disturb and yet tried to enter to the toilet in the room, just in case I found 3 people that they behaved very attentive and helpful including a young man named armando or alfredo seems which was very nice and staff of the Mexican restaurant the treatment it felt different with foreigners that in the restaurants and bars were very friendly with them and always asked them as they were if anything them to lack, and to us, plus we were going from honeymoon. Maybe I had bad luck.

Very good hotel clean comfortable well located friendly highly recommended need variety but very good.
