We booked this hotel to end our Iceland trip in hopes of seeing the northern lights. We researched a lot of different hotels and this one kept popping up with great reviews. I have NO idea how they got such raving reviews! we did not see the lights which was no fault of the hotel it was raining so that does not impact my review. We had to take a bus to blue lagoon and pick up a hotel shuttle from there which again wouldn't be an issue. What did become an issue is once you are at the hotel there is NOTHING to do in the area. I had been in contact with the hotel checking on this prior to booking and was told there were some places to walk to. I also asked if there was airport transportation and was told yes. We ended up getting to the hotel around 2pm and ate at the restaurant the pizza was actually really good but after reviewing the dinner menu we were trying to find alternatives but we're told we would need to take a taxi back to Reykjavik. My husband was also told if we weren't happy with the location we should have done better at looking at the map. When they say they are near the blue lagoon they basically share a property. The hotels "walking" paths are actually the walking paths to the blue lagoon you have to walk to. Dinner was ok for what we had (can't really go wrong with bruschetta and cheese fries). The cook was very friendly and probably the best part of the hotel. Our room faced the power plant so we heard and saw that (and smelled it with the window open). We were told we could upgrade our room and have access to their spa which is 3 different showers and some rocks to walk on. The toilet paper was inside a drawer because there was no room to put it elsewhere which was just weird. Overall I would not recommend this especially for the price. It may be worth it if you have rented a car but otherwise you are completely isolated. We would have preferred to stay in Reykjavik so we wouldn't have spent an entire day of our trip stuck in this place. After playing some games we just threw in the towel and said we would watch tv. Big surprise the TV didn't work. The receptionist came down but all she was able to get was a couple of news channels. Please don't waste your money. Stay in Reykjavik and take a tour if you want to see the lights you will save money and have a better overall experience.
