Comayagua is a historic city located in the central region of Honduras. It is the capital of the Comayagua Department and is situated approximately 80 kilometers northwest of the country's capital, Tegucigalpa. With a population of around 100,000 people, Comayagua is known for its rich cultural heritage, colonial architecture, and vibrant atmosphere. The city's history dates back to pre-Columbian times when it was inhabited by indigenous Lenca tribes. However, it gained prominence during the Spanish colonial era and became an important administrative and religious center. Comayagua served as the capital of Honduras until 1880 when the title was transferred to Tegucigalpa.
