Last night of our stay in France we needed to look for a self service laundry at nearly 10pm. All known options were closed. While paying the receptionist for our stay, he told us there was a 24/7 laundrymat two blocks away. He said it with absolute certainty so we believed him and I took our laundry there. There were neighborhood people doing their laundry there. Minutes later after the clothing was in the 30 minute wash cycle I came back to the hotel to inform everyone else that laundry problem was solved. Meanwhile, the administrator of the laundrymat locked the place and left… it turns out it wasn't 24/7! And there was nothing in the laundromat that indicated the schedule except for a small unlit sign to the right of the door. The flight to our next destination was the next morning at 7am and I found out from the patrons of a nearby bar that the laundrymat wouldn't open till 7am. We were facing a big problem since my fellow travellers only had the pajamas they were wearing. We explained the problem to the night receptionist, who had already replaced the one that had given us the bad advice, and he called his colleague whom admitted his mistake. We had no choice but to rebook our flight to a later time which cost €424.35 since no clothing stores are open that early in Paris. At that moment the receptionist was understanding and helpful and said he would talk to his bosses in the morning to see how they could "solve" this. In the morning we spoke with the manager and she blamed it all on us. We are the stupid tourists who cannot read the french signs and silly enough to trust their receptionist. The joke is on us. Hate to say this is one of those things that are better in North America but indeed if this would have happened in any hotel in the same price range in the US or Canada they would have comped our stay after scolding the employee for accidentally misinforming us in the first place! It's the least they could have done!
