This is the Jewel of Paris, it is small, but full of character and staffed by the most amazing people! And there literally can't be a better location for anyone who wants to be PART of the city!

This place is classic Paris—as long as that's what you're looking for. My room was ultra small, at the top of four flights of a wooden spiral staircase, but very clean and comfortable. I could hear the applause downstairs at a Shakespeare and Co. Reading very clearly. It was super charming. If you're looking for that "attic in Paris" experience, where the front desk appears to only keep handwritten records, where you can enjoy the nightlife of the latin quarter and be in your bed within 5 minutes, this joint is for you. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is perfect. Just be ready for small and ancient.

The hotel is very well located in front of Notre Dame.

Very cosy old hotel, full of atmosphere and very special! Everything looks a bit small and shabby, but it's perfectly clean and tidy! The service was excellent, and the location couldn't be any better. We would definitely stay there again!

Favourite hotel in Paris. Staff very Helpful and Friendly. Rooms very Quirky and Bohemian in a very 1920's way if you like that kind of thing. It only seems expensive. Because of the location* and when you counter that in it becomes a very good priced hotel. *If you book a front room you overlook Notre Damme. Our rooms were always clean. Lower rooms can be a bit noisy up and until late because of street people going to and from bars and restaurants but your in Paris. There's only one reason to be in a hotel room that early!. Can be noisy also lower down at the back especially when Shakespeare and Co have the "hi brow" Sorbonne "Stundenti" in… playing the back room piano. But we still love it (occasionally someone plays really well! Esmeralda makes us feel like we have travelled back in time to the non commercial real Paris that was. Highly recommend for a bohemian style hotel.

A beautiful 17th century hotel where the staff are very friendly and helpful, right across the seine from notre dame.

Stayed here 20 years ago. Had some of the most amazing and unforgettable time here. The view of Notre Dame from my room window was breathtaking.

Lovely hotel, very quirky and traditional. Only spent one night but will definitely be visiting again in the future. Very friendly and helpful staff, and a perfect location.

Quite noisy as no insulating window and close to the dance bars.
Traditional decor with a certain charm, it's clean and the staff welcoming.

Most rude staff I have ever come across. I have been completely cheated by this company. I got into the city really early and made a reservation through booking. Com. I had made a special request to arrive very early in the morning. My request was accepted as far as the application went. I arrive early and the gentleman at the reception waved me off and claimed that I had no reservation. I was stuck in the cold for over an hour and found other accommodation. I requested to cancel with this hotel and for them not to charge me. However they still charged me for a room that I did not use! Terrible experience.

I stayed here 5 years ago, was looking for a place like I stayed in some 20+ years ago, and I found it in Hotel Esmeralda. True Parisian Hotel, in exactly the right location for just the right price. Will stay here every time.

Stayed here when I was 11. We called it "The Titanic" because our room was on a legit 11% grade. The hallway smelled like urine but to be fair, so did the rest of Paris; public urination being a bit less of a faux pas I guess. That being said, you're across the street from the frickin Notre Dame. You're in Paris. Love your time!

We lodged here with our girls when they were young. It was a quirky storybook experience. Not luxurious, but delightful nonetheless.

Quirky, higgledy-piggledy hotel with irregular floors and loud floral wallpaper. You can probably guess the location from the name, and the price is excellent for a non-chain in central Paris. Apparently some of the rooms have a great view of the famous church, but not mine. Nice just to wander out of the door and be in the heart of the city. Nice staff. Nice rooms, if small. But take your earplugs. And some shampoo.

This was a great hotel. The view out our window of Notre Dame was spectacular. A true experience. If you want little shampoo bottles and a tv, you're better off somewhere else. But if you want an adventure in Paris. This is the place.
