Review of Golden Coast Beach Hotel 4*

Fabulous staff (bar one ignorant and rude older female Jenny who sounds British), good food and great location. The Spa is off limits as it is far too expensive so you have no access to the indoor pool which is not free as advertised. The outdoor pools are great though they can't seem to keep the sea side part clean from sand and they never clean around it which is a shame. Outdoor areas are mostly never swept except where you don't normally go! The pool is not filtered and the water is not changed so is polluted with suncream. Do not get any in your mouth. Rooms are clean but watch out for tiny ants that get into food and clothes. They are a nuisance. Very little around the hotel so be prepared to travel to get around and shop. Google maps don't have street view so navigation is a bit difficult unless you download a local map. Wi-Fi at the hotel is ok in the foyer but patchy elsewhere and keeps going off. One night I managed, the stream some Netflix though! Telly is in English but nearly all news channels so perhaps don't bother. Food is decent except on the Greek/Cypriot might as there are no decent desserts served except traditional fayre too hard to eat. Main dishes containing meat are often well overcooked. I agree with a previous post where they say the Syrian/Lebanese night was good. It was but it only happens every two weeks. The place is a bit tired but would be hugely expensive to fix. Maintenance issues only need a couple of members of staff and organisation to make happen. The sand on the steps to the beach is so bad, there will be a serious accident soon and they will be sued big style. Weekends, they place is invaded by locals. Last Sunday, 26 sunbeds were being used by folks with no wrist bands. They are loud, smoke heavily and very boisterous. Often, the staff give them free drinks and alcohol if you watch closely — so we paying guests subsidise freebies for them. There is no security to stop them. Did I mention that you have to be quick if you want a peach to eat. Our Russian friends seen to love them. They will usually take a plate with a dozen or more and then fill their bags with them! This happens every day at event meal — they are not keen on plums though. This hotel is heaven if you like plums. The restaurant staff are great with a friendly smile and greeting. They are all to be commended. All in all a decent hotel and would maybe stay again when things improve. No.
