The problem in Croatia, ok maybe that's unfair, I will be more specific, the Croatian coast, is the lack of professional staff. The main contributing fact is this area is very seasonal. The effect is that key staff are no more than part time. So this being said, my review should be read as constructive criticism and not simply criticism. The hotel itself rates 5*. People who travel internationally will expect therefore this 5 star level of infrastructure and importantly, service. Immediately I found the room to boast nothing more to be found in a 3 star. A double bed, a balcony, tv, and bathroom. There is no separate living area that one would expect. Storage are for cloths etc is average. The electrical sockets are cheap and coming out the wall. This is not just unsightly but also unsafe. There was no facility in the room to make your own beverage so one could sit on the balcony drinking an early coffee and enjoying the sunrise. In addition there was no complementary news paper delivered to the door in the morning. The bathroom door has no lock for privacy. Some people do indeed like to lock the door when using a toilet. There was also no proper shaving socket that has a standard 110/220 outlet with the addition of a hair dryer. All that is there is a simple 220v European outlet with no rating expected in a humid bathroom environment. The ventilation in the bathroom is also poor with all mirrors being steamed up and a bathroom ending up more like a steam room. The room basically felt cheaply put together in the smallest area afforded to 5 star accommodation. The evening meal was also challenged due to the unprofessional staff who are not trained to the standard expected and the ment in turn was as bland and uninspired as typical of the menu in the country. Yes there is a few exceptions. This not being one. On asking for the desert menu I was offered the same as can be found in any cafe and nothing more, pancakes with a cheap array of topping. Why oh why is this all that can be offered even in a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was as typically boring as any hotel could offer. And not even a means to make your own coffee or tea. Very unusual. I had to wait for someone to appear to make one at the bar. The one and only redeeming quality this hotel offers is the beach front location with a fantastic view. All in all I would give this hotel a 3 star rating. The sad thing is all its lacking can be easily fixed (apart from the small rooms) with small investment and also better staff worthy of a 5 star hotel.
