Horrible attention, most contributors act as if you are paid to stay there. Rude to answer, reluctantly. 0 recommended, definitely that cheap is expensive. It's better to invest a little more and get another kind of attention.

It is a hotel of old facilities, you have to enter through a parking lot because the doors of the restaurant are not enabled at specific times. The service of your staff should be trained as you find yourself with little courtesy, bad manners on the part of the waiters and the staff in general. Some of them look like apprentices and the food is not very good nor their rules are clear so they seem to improvise. A real bad experience. I don't recommend it.

Terrible service, they didn't let me go up to get my wallet that I left.

Clean Hotel, staff generally courteous and location excellent for those of us who love the centre of the cities.

I have stayed at this hotel over 50 nights in the last 10 years with a great experience and no problems! However I stayed in the presidential suite which I have numerous times 31 December checked out the first of the year and Helicoptered to the beach fishing for seven days then I return and fly home I do this two to three times a year for the last 15 years and for the last 10 years I always stay at the Balmoral The day I arrive and 2 nights Before I head home so I’ll leave my luggage in there storage and just take my Pack to the boat.

No parking we had q pay for 15 hours of parking in the breakfast is very poorly served the food very bad bad faces definitely never again in that hotel q hurts.

Decent place for the price. Simple, adequate rooms and amenities. Central location. Breakfast and Wi-Fi included. Nice, genuine folks. 3rd floor was being remodeled, so we were forced to use the elevator instead of the stairs.

Nice hotel. There we had excellent business training about our Life Divine Company was great.

Very good facilities, execelente attention, comfort and security, perfect location in the center of San Jose, I recommend if you need lodging for business, the only flaw is that sometimes the smell of food is distributed in almost the whole second floor, But other than that highly recommended.

It is a very nice hotel, central, neat, nice, good care and with a beautiful restaurant area.

The hotel is strategically located in the center of San Jose, being close to any of the capital's best points of interest. It has been refurbished, has very good facilities. The staff is very attentive and always friendly. It has own parking and gym. Since you enter you perceive that they strive to the guest to pass the best. I do recommend it.

Located conveniently close to shops and the museums. The rooms were nice but there was a high pitch noise coming from the washroom. Service was very good and everyone was friendly.

It is a small classic style hotel (90s) located in San Jose downtown, so it is more like a place to stay just one day. Meeting rooms are standard, they offer basic facilities to perform conferences, business meetings, trainings.

Perfect location for walking to all the museums, parks and several restaurants. Even with all the foot traffic outside the rooms were very quiet. Nice included breakfast buffet in a lovely open bright dining room. Within the hotel was a restaurant, cafe with gellato, hair salon, shops selling candy, leather products, and jewelery, and a gym. The surrounding area felt very safe.

A nice clean hotel, with comfortable rooms. VERY secure, and the staff where helpful and polite. The rather boring breakfast let them down.

Was hoping to give this no stars, but Google won't let you post without at least one star. Avoid this hotel like the plague, at least until they have a change of management and a new philosophy that customers aren't the enemy to be treated as though they are trash. While the location is quite central to the primary sites, the service is overly surly to the point it overwhelmed our positive senses of the location. At check-in, it was a series of "your room will be ready soon", all the while other guests were checking in and getting into their rooms. So after a red-eye flight from the US-SFO, we were literally sleeping in the lobby while supposedly waiting for our room to be cleaned. When the front desk person was unable to give a clear indication as to when the room was to be available (we were on the second "in 10 minutes" statement from her after several will be ready "soon"), I asked to speak to the manager and was refused by another desk person, who then proceeded to reiterate the "in 10 minutes" lie, while he and I argued about getting into the room for about 15 minutes, icing on the cake was he repeated the "in 10 minutes" again at the end of the 15 minutes we spent arguing. Was an hour later before we got into our rooms, total elapsed time from when we first check-in until we got into the room was close to 3 hours.

No window on the outside but a glass tinted on the internal course. Medium Wifi. Proper bedding. High prices, luckily we were on a tour.

Great place for moderate income visitors — rooms are very comfortable, appearance is quite nice, buffet is great & bar for evening fun. Go for it —

The room is nice, clean, and worth it. The restaurant is a disaster and the hotel staff were arrogant and pushy when I tried (and failed) to get to speak with the manager to report it.

Checked in this morning everything so far has been a huge disappointment. First our keys to our room don't work. No coffee in the room thankfully they said they can bring a coffee machine up I asked for a few bags of coffee they only brought one small packet for one cup between the two of us. The Wi-Fi is terrible we don't even have a window in our room. It is a tiny window you cant see through almost at the ceiling with a stair case behind. We are now at the restaurant with terrible service we ordered beef tenderloin medium rare it is very well done. It also says above the tenderloin that all the plates are served with fries and salad. It comes out without fries or salad we tell the food runner and he says he will go get them but never comes back. We ask our server and she's says well all the plates come with fries and salad except that one and somehow we were supposed to know that? I would also like to note I am a waitress so I can try to be understanding but this is terrible. Also I've been staying at about $10 a night hotels in Guatemala for the past month and this is the only place that has disappointed me.

The room we stayed in was quite wide and clean. The staff is helpful and welcoming. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of food and served in a pleasant setting.

Great location, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was wonderful with excellent omelet bar and great ripe watermelon and papaya in a very nice setting. Room was ok but we did not upgrade and so our view was to an interior wall, ugg. I would stay here again!

Good food, variety of dishes, nice atmosphere, good service but slow, if you go very hungry is to arm yourself with patience. It is also complicated if it is a large group. Go with time.

Spacious and clean rooms, you sleep well and the area although it is very busy is very quiet. Very friendly staff.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Hotel Balmoral. Our room was spacious, well appointed and comfortable. The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. First night dinner in the restaurant was very good and breakfast in the morning excellent.
I would certainly recommend the Hotel Balmoral.

Our stay in Costa Rica was bookended by two nights at Balmoral. The rooms are fine. The mattresses both nights were a little hard, but the rooms were pretty soundproof on the busy city street. On our last night we ate at the restaurant — that was a huge mistake. Our food was forgotten. No apology was made as we sat for a full hour watching the tables around us get their food. We tried to get the attention of the waitress but she ignored us completely, not even refilling our drinks. We were within minutes of leaving when she finally apologized for the wait. Minutes later the appetizer and entrees come out at once, all cold. So, in our experience — stay at the hotel, but do not eat at the restaurant.

It was decent but the suite was expensive as hell. The mini bar is through the roof and they charge a 45 dollar visitor fee!

Nice, clean hotel in a central location. Friendly staff. Love their cozy cafe with the view of the pedestrian thoroughfare where they serve the breakfast buffet.

Sin for how much the restaurant is concerned, not cured, tables something clean. It is undoubtedly possible to improve cleanliness. Eating snack bar, of course not good restaurant. We expect an improvement.

Had a really bad experience here and felt let down. Room had no real window and no hot water we ask about getting it fixed but then had the same problem in the morning and were told 'that is just the way the shower is sometimes' Also the hairdryer didn't work so then my girlfriend had to leave with wet hair. We also tried the restaurant and order a salmon salad which had bits of chicken in it!? (my girlfriend is a vegetarian) Overall really bad experience and nothing was done to try to help or compensate the situation. Reccomend trying somewhere else @hotelbalmoralcr.

The hotel charms me, has an excellent location, good design, spacious rooms and has entrance by a small square in which you can find: a cafeteria, Bellza, pharmacy, confectionery, shoe shop and access to a restaurant.
I stayed in the family room. Floor 4 — Room 400 (two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, frigobar, microwave, coffee maker, balcony and 3 TVs) I love it!

Good hotel in downtown San Jose. Overall well insulated from the noise and with a good breakfast buffet.

Centrally located near museums, shopping. Restaurant is fine. Staff is nice and helpful. The room is small as opposed to others I've stayed in in San Jose but not bad. Clean. Neither the hairdryer or room safe worked which was a bummer. I booked through hotel. Com, usually simple but they charged my credit card when I said I'd pay at hotel, then did not send me a confirmation of payment which led to confusion at check out.

I recommend it. A beautiful place good food and beautiful rooms.

We were able to get our room for $100 a night. Well worth it. A breakfast buffet is included each morning. Its right on the walkable strip. Near a bunch of restaurants, bars etc. Has a gym but NO pool. AC was good. Not too much outside noise in the room we had. Safes were avaiable in the rooms.

The Pro of this place is its location in downtown of the capital, however this makes it unsuitable for the people who enjoy the exclusivity and a more secluded large accumulations of people place.

Roy Henderson: in Costa Rica there is a 13% sales tax, and a 10% service tax by law. The service replaces gratuity. They didn't do anything illegal, and it would be very difficult for them to not distribute that with the wait staff.

Food is currently no better, no worse, than three or four years ago… quite similar menu offerings. Charges for dining at the hotel's restaurant very confusing. Even the staff could not explain the presence of what appeared to be ten-percent CR taxes, and an added 13% tax for an unknown taxing authority. The staff member assisting me explained that there was no "propina, tip, or gratuity" included with the restaurant bill. However, continued the staff member, there was a very small amount… somewhere? … devoted to employees. My opinion, hotel/restaurant does charge a gratuitous fee in the final bill and likely does not share with wait-staff, or any hotel staff for that matter.

Ina has cute Cafe but a slightly slow service.

Nice hotel only the cloths smell strange.

They are in the process of upgrading everything. Not super fancy.
