A lot of the other reviews on here are not accurate. I can confirm the hotel has an iron and hair dryer. In my opinion the service WAS very nice and polite. But even one star is too generous for the cleanliness of the room and my other issues. When I first came to the hotel I took a shower and made the awful mistake of walking barefoot throughout the room as I unpacked. When I went to climb into bed, I saw that my foot was BLACK. The air conditioner unit was also black with grime on the vents, evidence that it had never been cleaned. The walls were stained, the phone and alarm clock had a layer of dust on it, one of the outlets was cracked and broken, and even the one bed's headboard was broken. I really hope that the security deposits aren't a scam to charge people for damages they never caused. The most detrimental part of my stay was that the Wi-Fi NEVER WORKED. I came from the states and was horribly misled by other reviews that said the hotel's Wi-Fi was good. I never had one successful video call with my family. Also complimentary breakfast was actually complimentary pastries and fruit, not actual breakfast. Lastly, the parking was good but not if you plan on staying out late. I think it's a cultural thing that people in Canada don't care if they are double parked but when 5+ people are double parked leaving 5 spaces that no car can fit in without damaging cars it's really annoying.

Went with my family. The pool was closed, not a huge deal breaker until several people were seen doing drugs outside their rooms at 6pm and another set of people "shotgunning" beer. Though not the fault of the hotel we were uncomfortable with the vibe. Be wary as it seemed to be a party area.

Very cheap — almost no space to eat breakfast — no amenity — customers not allowed to use their electrical charger Quite disappointed although the price was quite high for this motel as it was a busy weekend. We just wanted to stay out of the room as much as possible. Smelly bathroom. Not cleaned well (the hair we saw on the top of the toilet was still seen after a couple of days). The most upsetting thing is that their electrical cars charger got locked up once we used it. Apparently it was only for the owner’s car. We stayed at another hotel and we were welcome to use their charger. After all, this hotel is a family owned business and they do not know the customer service and focus on saving money: (. We will NOT go back to stay at this hotel for sure.

Terrible service! Hotel is very dirty. Rooms are not accompanied with anything, no iron, no hair dryer. There are only two towels per room. Pool is closed but advertised that it is open. Breakfast is in lobby. We went at 8am and there was nothing. We were told it is done but I can see there was barely anything. DO NOT waste your money. It is a motel! I would not recommend it at all.

Normal place, not dirty. Nothing else to say seriously. I'm still alive after I slept there so whatever haha.

Bed was comfy and I slept well but it isn't fancy. No desk/table to work on, a heater on the floor unplugged, had to plug in the mini fridge and unplug the microwave. There were dead tiny bugs on the windowsill that wasn't cleaned even after 2 days of a stay and them "cleaning" the room. 1 drawer for clothes wouldn't open properly. Old, pilly comforter for bed. It was cheap ($82/night) so I took it but I wouldn't choose it again.

Good basic accommodations for an overnight stay. A little pricey for what you get. Clean room and friendly staff.

The staff is very helpful… It was my mom staying here. Rooms are clean. Location isn't bad if you don't mind being more downtown. Only issue we were having was with the Wi-Fi service is very intermittent.

It's a pretty decent budget accommodation. You aren't paying much, so you can't expect too much. Great customer service, though!

Modest hotel indeed. Clean, quiet and close to where I need to be. No complaints from me.

Clean, simple… breakfast was a joke but did the trick. Close to the site I was working on, so location was a plus for me.

Simple layout. Very convenient for quick over night. Only not a 5 star because we asked for a later check out when we checked in and the front desk the next morning had no idea. Bad communication.

Small rooms. Small sugary breakfast. But for the price you can't expect it else.

Fabulous beds. Wonderful showers. Continental breakfast is poor.

Not a traditional Howard Johnson hotel if you are expecting something family oriented. This hotel is located besides a popular sports bar and is at times noisy. Although the room was reasonably clean, it was clearly dated. On the plus side, the Internet connection was good and there was a lot of storage space. A word of warning is that it is easy to drive by as there is not the large sign that you would expect with a chain.

Room is clean and tidy. The experience was very good overall, would come back again.

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend, and we were so pleased with the service, the rooms and I especially want to thank Heidi, who was in charge of housekeeping. Our room was spotless, the new mattresses were the best we have ever slept on! Everything was Perfect. The employees who worked at the Reception Desk went out of their way to be helpful and were very efficient. We have stayed at Hotels/Motels across Canada and the United States and this one is superior in all ways to the others. Thank You all very much. — Michael and Jane Blake.

No proper duvet. No heating. Nice staff.

We had better internet via dial-up in the early 90's than the Wi-Fi in rm 110. Others have experienced very poor Wi-Fi too! Room smelled of urine. Sink tap loose. Weekday front desk staff very poor. Weekend front desk staff, truly excellent. Our white socks turned dingy brown after walking on their carpet. We pd for a queen but got a double. Should have rec'd 20. Off per night. Special offer. Never got it. We will never return!

The room was new, quite clean and very cozy. The staff was friendly and the price was great. Exceeded my expectations for a HJ inn. Would recommend.

Not bad rooms. Located on princess street within walking distance of many restaurants and pubs. Overall good stay.

Sort of tucked back, so be careful not to drive right past it. Staff is courteous, rooms are clean. Wifi was passable to terrible depending on the time of day. Bring long charging cables as the plugs are not near the bed side tables.

Very nice hotel with nice rooms that include a safe, fridge and microwave. The beds are very comfy and the location is great!

Basic accommodations. Clean and functional. Good for an overnight for sure. Friendly counter staff. Watch out they'll debit your credit card $125 just in case if you damage something in room, I hope I get my money back. No damage from this senior. I won't be back here!

The whole experience with booking and needing to cancel was frustrating and poor. Howard Johnson uses third party booking (ahem, Reservation Booking), to book rooms. You think you're speaking with a staff, but it isn't, and they don't tell you that. They get your credit card number to reserve the room, and charge you the full price anyway if you need to cancel. Howard Johnson, stop using dirty companies to book your rooms. Your staff member who I met was competent and polite, and if we were actually able to reserve the room through him, through them, there would have never been this problem (they even would have permitted the cancelation). This wrecked my night, it wa expensive, and I don't want to support this business until this mess with third parties is fixed.

2nd time in 4 months staying here… great staff, clean rooms and rates are good. HOJO is the place to stay!

The towels is real old, if you use microwave and other things in same time power went off.

Ants in the room. We had food sitting in a box on the counter and when we woke up, it was covered in ants. Also was accused and charged without authorization for "stealing pillows" they have no proof at all we stole them, just going on what their maid told them. Manager seems very childish. Have talked to him a couple times and is not customer oriented at all. Very rude to me over the phone. Over all will never be staying here again.

Wifi didn't work at all and the rooms were freezing. Both the sheets and comforter were really thin. The freezer in our room was so filled with ice we couldn't fit anything else in it. Cheap and worked for what we needed it for and luckily we weren't staying more than one night.

Room 216. Clean newlely renovated.

I have been staying here for 10 years when in Kingston but never again! To many problems to list including being double charged for a crummy room. Still waiting for a refund. Avoid at all costs.

I and my Girlfriend stayed overnite. The Receptionist Krstal was terribly rude and no greeting to the Guests, Night time, there was no internet in the room. We asked about internet and she said, you can change hotel if there was not internet in the room. She further went on to say that internet is free, so, everyone like free, what if we cannot provide free, this made us extremely upset and uncomfortable. There was no security in the motel and our expensive car was not secure, stairs was slippery and not good. Moring time coffee was so terrible and not drinkable. We are terribly disappointed and No one must go there.

Bought a dealfind voucher for a 2 night stay with no expiration date which they refuse to honor. Dealfind will not issue refund cuz over a year and vendor payed. Crooks. Who does this to its customers. Not impressed. Be last place I ever stay at.

My friend and I planned a short getaway to 1000 Islands and were looking for an affordable hotel. What the hotel lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in service. The rooms with at least two beds seem to be newer. Depending on the type of room you stay in it can be a different experience. The pool is nice for cooling off from the heat. The breakfast is a good way to start the day. Even on the more crowded mornings we were able to find food and share a table with other travelers. Wi-Fi service in the rooms was never more than 3 bars which was at times frustrating. The beds were some of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. If the sheets were newer and there were fluffier comforters I would compare it to a Westin Bed. The best part of our stay was the staff. We loved Nathan! He recommended boat tours and helped us find the drive in theater. I would recommend this place to friends that are looking for something comfortable, clean, and affordable.

I called ahead asking for a smoking room, which they had 2 of for contractors. There were men drinking in them when we arrived. The AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK in the "updated" room (I guess peeling paint and grease stained sheets are part of the renovation). Telling management did nothing to fix the problem. We did NOT sleep the whole night. Room finally cooled down at 6am! We had turned it on at 5pm the night before. We stood in 12 inches of standing water while showering, the tub was very slow to drain. Couldn't use the microwave, outlet was not working. Had to ask the bar for ice. The pool… our dogs have a bigger one. The area to walk your dogs is 3 ft by about 20 ft. I would not feel safe walking the neighbourhood at night. Not many good places close by to eat. When I spoke to management about the situation in the morning, he offered me a 20% discount. When I stated I felt the room should be comped, he said the owner feels if you don't like it there, you will go somewhere else, and that he has NEVER comped a room. The problem there, is that they will charge you for the room, even if you don't use it! And, breakfast… cold cereal (didn't see any bowls or milk), coffee, tea, juice, store bread for toast with packs of peanut butter and jelly, some plain store bagels, a few bruised apples and looots of granola bars… The ONLY reason we stayed there was that they allowed dogs, but we won't be back.
