We stopped at Deer Lodge following our 6 glacier hike. There we met Tim, who provided the greatest customer service I've ever recieved in my 56 years. The food was great too, a lovely beer, smooth soup and nice bread, but frankly we could have had beef jerky and been impressed, Tim was that great. If he is any indication of how this place treats its guests, you should stay there.

We had a luncheon at Deer Lodge after our wedding ceremony on the lake a few months ago. I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to make an exception here as we were absolutely blown away by the level of service we received. While planning the lunch, the staff at Deer Lodge were quick to respond to our e-mails and their replies were always friendly and accommodating. Leading up to the day, even though we weren't doing a big wedding package with Deer Lodge, they still went over and above to make sure the day was special and went far beyond what we paid for in terms of service. The entire experience was fantastic — the restaurant has the most lovely ambiance (with lots of natural light streaming in, a contrast to other options nearby), the food was delicious and the wait staff were among the most polite and helpful I've ever met. Thank you so much! We can't wait to return for another visit soon.

Everything about our experience here was amazing. My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and will definitely be coming back. Our first night we were the last people in the dining room and saw a bear with her two cubs walking to Lake Louise. The hot tub view was incredible and only being a five minute walk from the lake was a big plus.

Just hundreds of metres from Lake Louis and within walking distance, it is very convenient and comes with a restaurant. Just the price is more expensive, such an old country hotel, but also to such a high price, can only hehe. Take a few photos to let you have a look, whether you want to live on their own choice!

A heritage lodge just 2 min walk from lake Louise. Gives you an old lodge experience. Agnes hall has a cosy fireplace and great views. No elevators though. Rooms are about cramped. Restaurant has nothing for vegetarians.

The hotel is divided in two sections, old and new. At first I had a room in the old section in the third floor (no elevator at the property). The room was tiny and old, with a very strong smell, no power outlets, and slopped to one side. After complaining, I was then upgraded to the new section which was way better than the old section. Overall, the location is great and the service was okay.

Here at Deer Lodge now. Wonder if I can survive till the morning. Suffocating in the heat of a small room. Turn radiator vent on or off makes no difference! Not even a kettle here.

Pulled into Lake Louise, late Wednesday night. Looking for a place to sleep for the night. For 160.00 a night, the beds were VERY comfortable. It's an old building, yes. The room (221) was clean and charming, the view of the mountains in the morning was spectacular. If you want all the latest and greatest, one can drive up the road a little ways and pay upwards of 300.00 and beyond. Deer lodge great room for the money. I'd come again.

With regret I cannot give this establishment a positive review. On our current tour of Canada this is the sixth hotel we've stayed in over the past 10 days and unfortunately the most disappointing. The owners seem to have mistaken tatty carpets, poorly maintained rooms and frankly sad and smelly social areas for old world charm. Food was reasonable but far better fare is available else where for similar prices. Avoid…

We stayed there when we visited Lake Louise during the Christmas time in 2014. The place is old style and dated. No elevator by then and no TV in the room. We are two adults with a 10 years old, so we were fine. The outdoor hot tub was down when we were there. That was not great. We like the basement entertainment area w/ laundry room nearby. While waiting for laundry, we had great time there playing card and Foosball. Their public lounge/living room is old fashioned fitting my taste at least. The hotel location is really good, short walking distance to Lake Louise, but located in a quiet area. I would think we will stay there again if we go back.

Great location and looks beautiful outside and in the common room areas but was disappointing. The fireplace room, hallways and dining area smells like a sewer. Strongly. I actually was unable to sit in the common room because of the smell. The rooms are tiny, just enough room for a bed and just outside the window is a stone wall, so no view whatsoever. The people at the front desk are very nice and helpful but the service staff in the dining room were inattentive and rarely came back to our table, so we had no drink refills during our meals. The food was decent, slightly tasteless and overpriced for the portion you receive but the presentation was good. This was our first stay, we will likely try another hotel on our next visit.

Relaxing rustic lodge. The food (only ate dinners here) was delicious! Surprisingly exceptionally flavorful! No TV's was a bonus. Unfortunately the hot tub jets weren't working and a pipe burst took the tub out of commission for an evening but they got things repaired quickly (except for the jets).

Kills the Fairmont up the road. Rustic, authentic and historic place which I recommend to anyone. Amazing food and great restaurant/lounge. Yes it has its quirks and it's not luxury but it is historic and they don't charge luxury prices. This is our second visit.

This hotel offers an experience worthy of the years 1920. Today's standards are different goods, be advised.

If you're looking for a LODGE style place to stay then this is a great place for you. It's simple… No tvs or fridges in your room… But how much time so you ready spend on your room? Go take advantage of their rooftop hot tub. Remember the Bachelor Canada (Sean's season?! ) … There's a sauna as well. Staff are extremely extremely friendly from front desk to the bar. Some rooms are quite tiny and rustic. Renovated rooms are more up to date. Niall at front desk was very knowledgeable and Rob was very helpful with bags and helping me get my things to my accommodations.

This was a nice location being so close to Lake Louise. The Lodge is rustic and could do with some updating. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and we where upgraded to a tower room with a queen bed. (something to do with the company we booked with) There is no elevator. We lugged our luggage up the the top floor room in the tower. Our room overlooked the sauna area. The room was quite hot and there was no A/C so we opened all the windows and left them open a little all night. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed. We went down the front desk to check on some visitor info, the desk clerk was very helpful recommending to visit Lake Moraine first as it got busy really fast and you would have to "q" to visit that area. It was great information. Overall the Lodge is not too bad but could do with a update.

The place is dated and the old furniture was not a good old just run down and smelt. The halls smelt like urine. The room was plain the bathroom was nice, that bath perfect for me 5"2. The water would leak out so you have to leave the tap on. I wish there was a TV in the room. The hot tub was out of order the whole time I was there, very disappointed that was a highlight of the place when we booked it. The staff were lovely. The food ugh so good. Had dinner there twice, the lounge menu is reasonably affordable but the dinning was on the expensive side. The desserts are to die for. Wish they did have more options for dietary requirements.

Unacceptable level room for the Lake Louise standing. Otherwise hall and restaurant quality.

I looked up this place from Expedia and I love it! The staff inside were very friendly, they cleaned up the pool and let me use it earlier than the expected time. The food in the restaurant were great as well.

Worse place for life than I have stayed. It stinks in the hallway, everything is old, the. Steps and floor creaks as if going deep. No electrical outlet in the rooms. I had to. Plug my cell phone into the hallway. Forbidden to. Eat CA own food has linterieur and even has lexterieur on the hood of his truck. The temperature of the Spas is as hot as that of the freezing lake. Very very on. We had booked for the week and we leave after the first night…

I love Deer Lodge, we keep coming back every year. The staff were so friendly and understanding when we needed a room on the bottom floor because my Grandma had mobility issues. The rooms were nice and clean and the hot tub on the roof was very relaxing, it was at perfect temperature this year. We also ate at the restaurant, the food was delicious, the staff were friendly at all times and helpful on describing portion sizes and such. We will absolutely be coming back.

We recently spent three nights at Deer Lodge. Hard to know where to start but think Fawlty Towers without the jokes. We got to our third floor room, opened the door and were flabbergasted. The first question we asked ourselves was can we get our money back and sleep in the car. For a moment it really seemed like a better option. The room was dingy, dark, worn to exhaustion, not especially clean and utterly characterless. The bathroom was the same but phone booth tiny as well. If I had a magic wand to fix the place I would have laid down a less filthy carpet. Then added about six more room lights. And a bedside table for bed number two. Then some tea and coffee making equipment. To be honest, if my wand was really up to snuff I would have put the owners into liquidation and magicked up new hotel operators who were prepared to invest in bringing a sad hotel in a terrific location back up to speed. By the way, the staff did a brilliant job of serving us. There was no sign whatsoever of any management so not much point in complaining to youngsters working their socks off. All in all a sad experience. One we had in common with the three others couples we chatted to at various times during our stay. As for Lake Louise — a one off that simply couldn't be better!

You have rustic, and then you have dilapidated. If you make a reservation in an old hotel, you now sole things won't be perfect. I'm ok with no ac, no Ethernet and an old bathroom. But what's wrong with this hotel has nothing to do with being rustic. Filthy carpet in the public areas, windows that no longer properly close, a mattress that is so old that you roll out of bed. All of these are unacceptable no matter how old the hotel is. We stayed in the English inn in Victoria, its very old, but is well maintained. Unlike the deer lodge. Let me end with some good points, the staff was very friendly and the hot tub on the roof was nice.

Small bed, cold shower, room smells like a sewer and a loud ventilation unit keeps you awake at night. Please stay somewhere else if you are visiting Lake Louise. We understand the limitations of an old building but the basics like a shower has to work properly. But most people will book it anyway because of the location.

No chair in room. Very noisy due to thin wall and old building. Can hear the next room conversation. We are constantly disturbed by walking steps outside corridor and upstairs residents (ceiling squeaking). No kettle available. No electric plug available except inside toilet or you move the bed away from the wall. No blanket cover so you are sharing an unclean blanket with previous residents.

This hotel does not live up to the expectations of the Lake Louise area or the price that is paid to stay here. Although the location is nice, the hotel is seriously dated and the hallways are extremely smelly. I understand that the hotel wants to keep it's old-school charm but things like carpets could easily be replaced. Plumbing could also be fixed so that the shower provides a constant temperature and actually drains and you aren't standing in ankle deep backed up water. The room we were in was also extremely noisy. We were on the second floor near the entrance where we constantly heard staff out for smoke breaks having conversations and car doors slamming, and closing the windows was not an option since there is no thermostat inside. The Wi-Fi was also close to nonfunctional. They have a "deer Lodge guest Wi-Fi" and a "deer Lodge admin admin" which is locked and for the staff; I bet theirs works just fine. Finally, there is no mini fridge, television, or phone in the room. Not a huge deal to us but I definitely see it as a huge shortcoming with the price that is paid to stay here. Overall, I think this hotel has a certain appearance online that is not matched when you arrive. What you see online is much nicer than the true hotel and it definitely takes advantage of customers travelling to Lake Louise from all over the world who expect much more than what it is, especially with the price they are paying.

Beautifully located. The hotel is old and in desperate need of a revamp. Beds are short window sills are dirty and full of dead flies carpet is gross. The enamel on the tub is chipping and ceiling has mould… toiletries are wonderful and I was happy to take them all.

Quite disappointed. The staff was way less than cortious. " Room guarantee " was for 16:00. I Did not get the keys till 16:30! The place seemed overbooked. Clearly needed more staff to be Done on schedule. "Yes, we have restaurant that serves dinner. But it's booked full for tonight. "

Rooms are all nice and clean, maybe a little old but goes with the feel of the hotel nicely. Also has a good location and the food is good for the price, considering how expensive it tends to be in lake Louise. Didn't have breakfast here as it seemed too expensive, instead bought food from the village shop.

The location is great, and there are few places more beautiful than Lake Louise. While it's definitely very pricy for what you get, my biggest concern lies in the fact that we returned one evening to find that our door was unlocked. It seemed that the housekeeper may have thought that we were checking out that day, as she had also left a passive-aggressive note. When I reported to the front desk the fact that our personal items had been left in an unlocked room all day, I was just told "sorry, " and that nothing could be done. This was shockingly poor customer service, and left a very bad taste.

There's a huge line between charming and just downright antiquated, and Deer Lodge has crossed it. Our visit was met with unclean rooms that lacked basics like temperature controlled water, and clean linens. There's no A/C, so if you're feeling warm, you have to open the window to get a cool burst of mountain air — no complaints here. But in our original room, there were bugs dead and alive on the windowsill because of a gap between the wall and the window. We did contact the front desk who offered us another room, uttering the words, "it's an upgrade. " The room we moved into is about 3m x 4m, so I must be missing the added value. I do appreciate their professionalism and the swift decision making to accommodate us. Now, some people may think, you're in the woods, its better than camping, but here me out. After driving from Jasper to Lake Louise and spending a few hours hiking, the last thing you want to deal with at bedtime is unclean rooms and more bugs. Besides that, if you're making a decision about where to stay for an important event, like a honeymoon or a getaway, heed warning. Overall, I think Deer Lodge that serves a National Park with more than five million visitors annually is overdue for an upgrade in guest services and renovations.

Great food, a little on the pricy side. You get a great view during dinner.

Rooms are fairly clean, little more rustic and smaller than expected, drinks were good, food was ok. It's not a big deal though because chateau Louis is next door and can get a high end experience if you want!

Old style hotel. It has entourage. Prices are above average. No elevator. Rooms are of good size. No TV in room, but we didn't mind. In walking distance of lake Louise. Private parking.

Very lovely and relaxing place to stay. Roof top hot tub, very courteous staff and amazing restaurant. Worth the price. Felt inviting and authentic compared to the Fairmont just next door. Will return when I feel I need to get away from it all!

The interior is very reminiscent of a hogwarts dorm. It's all wood and looks like a very aged hotel. However it's super cozy and very nice, and the best part was definitely the jacuzzi they have right outside. Most relaxing jacuzzi I've ever had.

Location is great. However, the hotel is very dated and lack many modern amenities. The rooms are very small. The service was acceptable.

Good price, but not very good at anything else. Room was small, washing basin was still had different taps for hot and cold water. Toilet was tiny. Good place to just spend the night at lake louise, not a great place to chill for the whole day.

You have to expect that the rooms will be small and underwhelming, especially in the old wing. However, the location is excellent, the building has a ton of character and the food is excellent. This place is amazing value.

This hotel was very cosy. And also service very good. The background sound of lobby made me comfort and relax. I recommend you as DEER LOGDE.

The restaurant in the hotel is very good, I recommend the pulled chicken pasta. The breakfast is ok, but pricey. This hotel is older then John A Macdonald. The rooms have walls made of paper, hard to get a good night sleep, no ac, no tv, no frig, etc. There is a rec room in the basement with a tv, it's ok, they also have washer/dryer. If you stay out until night in the summer, no ac should be ok. The hot tub is very good. It's within walking distance to Lake Louise and the best hikes, which means avoiding the over crowded parking lots. The water pressure is amazing, a hot Niagara Falls. Its very pricey for what you get but then everything in this town is.

Only went here for dinner. We got there around 9, so only the bar menu was available, but it was all great and reasonably priced. Great service too. The regular dinner menu did look a little pricey though. But not outrageous for the area.

Loved the place, great staff, beautiful location, better than the fairmont, only downside was no frig or TV in rooms but hey. I was there to relax and explorer the area not sit in my room. But a frig would have been better! TV I can live without.

The location of Deer Lodge is great, right next to Lake Louise and all of its beautiful hikes. The view from Deer Lodge is gorgeous, very old, Victorian-styled but still clean and well kept. The hallways are not very well lit and give a slightly ominous feeling, so don't watch any scary movies! The staff were helpful, quick and professional, they even gave us a free upgrade, as well as an Albertan discount! Absolutely will stay again.

The worst experience ever. They charged me CAD 130.00 a night off season. The building is historical and looks nice from the outside. The room was horrible for that rate. A smell of urin lingers in staircase. No Elevator. Simple standard equipement such as TV, coffemaker, hairdryer, fridge, chair, table, that you normally have in lower cost motels, were not there and not available. The room itself wasn't bigger than a lumber-room. We had to place our baggage on the floor which resultet in an obstacle course when needed to go to the restroom at night. Luckily we had to stay only one night.

The food here is overpriced and not very impressive. For $12 you get a soup that is meant to be an entree but is sized like an appetizer. Their Banff Platter meant to serve 2 people is barely enough to feed one. Be forewarned, food is expensive and is of less than average quality.

My family ate lunch here today. The grilled chicken sandwich with mango salsa and the flatbread pizza were amazing! This was the best meal we had during our 5 day stay in Banff. Definitely recommended.
