Reviews of Metterra Hotel on Whyte 4*
Love staying here. Great rooms and great service!
Where to start… no baby crib, no parking out front, NOISY like you would not believe! We will never stay here again. Waste of time and money. Very disappointed.
Wouldn’t recommend. We had a horrible experience here and couldn’t get our money back after booking with Expedia. Wouldn’t stay here again. Front desk customer service was atrocious.
It’s a quiet hotel right on Whyte Ave with all the restaurants and stores within walking distance.
This is my favourite hotel in the city. It’s classy and unique, and in a great location. But also reasonably priced. The staff are always amazing, everything is clean and perfect, and the food is great. Pre-Covid, they had wine socials every night which were so fun! We always have a great time here an the staff always go above and beyond to ensure our stay is perfect.
Book at Mettera Hotel, breakfast is fabulous! wine and cheese are awesome!
Clean nice big jet tub and lots of nice restaurants around. Its really quite. This is our third time back they also… wine and cheese in the evening and continental breakfast included to. We really enjoy it.
Parking is two blocks away and costs an additional $15 per night which we did not know until we arrived from out of town. Our vehicle got locked in the parkade so we missed our reservations waiting for someone to come open it. The front desk at check in was rude. The room was not what was advertised. The hallways smelled heavily of a musky freshener.
Absolutely will not go back. Very disappointed.
The ONLY hotel we stay at in Edmonton. Fantastic location.
Love staying there, it's perfect location,
What it lacks in quiet it makes up for in character and easy access to tons of fun places! Whyte Ave. Is so much fun! I'd choose Metterra again in a heartbeat.
The day I arrived, the fellow at the desk had my back. I was in a tizzy as my husband was in surgery at the U of A. I was very nervous and stressed. He made sure the Valet parked my truck, took a bag from the truck I had forgotten, and later that night even removed a cell phone that had been forgotten, to bring it to me so I could make a call to family. They ensured I had a cab to get me back to hospital so I wouldn't have to drive. I couldn't have asked for better. Everyone …was so good to us while we stayed. Breakfast was wonderful, the room quite comfortable, and while I was worried it could be quite noisy from the location, I simply can not complain, we had a street room and honestly while occasionally from loud cars, it was very pleasant. My only complaint was the young lady on check out, Im sorry to say I found her very rude. It was a disappointment. But one person out of all the others we encountered, I would still go back to stay. Thank you for the great stay.
Loved this hotel. Have stayed here many times.
Great place to stay. Service is great. Rooms are lovely.
Was able to check in early (11:00 am) & check out isn’t till noon. The wine & cheese every evening is a nice touch. Great location
Very professional & helpful staff.
Their customer service is top notch. Wonderful getaway for a Staycation on one of the best streets in Edmonton. Enjoy!
Been staying here for years! Always a great spot! Staff is awesome and friendly. Thanks so much!
Great service the staff was friendly and courteous at all times. We had to change rooms, the staff completed the room change with no hesitation and no problems very much appreciated.
Metterra is nice little hotel right on Whyte, the high points for me include the breakfast area on the second floor along with the balcony overlooking Whyte Ave. Staff are courteous and helpful, not much more I could ask for.
I've always loved to stay at The Metterra on Whyte. Decks could use some up grading. Didnt receive help with our bags.
The hotel didn't look like much outside, but the inside was nice. The staff was very accommodating when looking for taxis or answering any of our questions, rooms were nice and tidy every day when I came back to the room. The included breakfast was nice with options for gluten free and lactose free. There was not a tremendous amount of choice, but the food and service was good. Unfortunately, I couldn't take advantage of their complimentary wine tastings from 5-6 but I would have liked to try it. One thing I would have liked from the hotel is blackout drapery. I went there in summer where the sun is almost always out, which I'm not used too. So when you try going to bed at 11 and there's a halo of light coming in the windiws with closed drapes, it makes things a bit uncomfortable if you are not used to it. TV placement was strange from the bed as you can see from the picture. I would definitely stay there again if I need to go back to Edmonton.
Location of the Metterra is exceptional, White Ave is a great place to stay in Edmonton because the food and entertainment is plentiful. The rooms are very nice, bed and pillows so comfortable. The breakfast was very good as an included amenity. Would definitely stay again!
We had the studio suite with a patio for a stag party and it was amazing. Lee at the front was very accommodating. Would definitely go back.
A great facility in a great neighbourhood. The included continental breakfast was great too. Highly recommended!
Customer service was great, the valet service is a nice addition. The breakfast was good with some hot and cold options. The room was spacious and comfy. The location is great with many food options within walking distance. Overall would highly recommend this hotel to others.
It's cozy, and very professional. Rooms were nice with great view. Executive breakfast included to start your day and an amazing wine and cheese tasting to start your evening. Not to mention that you're on whyte Ave and able to experince some of the best of what Edmonton has to offer. Service is top notch, will definitely be staying again.
They gave us a free upgraded room. The staff was all friendly and quick to help out whenever we asked. Being right on whyte ave meant there was lots of things within walking distance. I can't think of a negative thing to say, it was awesome.
Awesome breakfast. Staff is very nice. The only downside to me is the fitness center isn't the greatest. Can be a little loud from Whyte ave.
We just stayed here and it was excellent for us. We had a suite so it was spacious fireplace jacuzzi wonderful layout. The oversized windows and kitchen with bar stools was perfect. The staff and valet service top notch. Location to everything is great! Highly recommend this hotel. We stay in some pretty beautiful places and this one defiantly is in our top picks.
Very nice rooms. Clean. Complimentary breakfast was tasty. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were soft but not too soft. I am happy I stayed there.
Hotel was in a great location with many bars and restaurants within walking distance. Our room was clean and comfortable with some cool modern art. The complimentary breakfast was pretty standard but good. I'd stay there again given the chance!
Stayed here two great times previously. Had some minor issues this third and stay but back for a forth, and most impressively was impressed with how Jay their sales manager handled the situation to make things right. He went above and beyond to ensure I had a great visit and that my issues won't happen again to my satisfaction. Based on how great he was at creating and ensuring that both my guests and I had an enjoyable experience, makes me comfortable in saying that I feel very confident that I imagine you'll get a great experience too. Make note of breakfast on the second floor, wine tastings, business centre and their gym. Lots to see and do nearby. Great pizza at Famousa across the street.
Great hotel in a great location. I'm from Edmonton and took a few days as a staycation. I've passed this hotel a thousand times but had never been in. Staff was all incredibly friendly, and the room was comfortable and modern. Room was small but well-appointed and laid out in a way that didn't make it feel cramped. You'll get nose from Whyte Ave regardless of which room, and I spoke to a couple with a room on a lower floor who could hear music from a close bar (hotel provides earplugs in each room though). Free valet, free breakfast, free happy hour. Well worth the price, I'll definitely be back.
Bed's are comfortable The breakfast is top notch, everything is cooked nicely. I have never been able to arrange my schedule around the wine and cheese but I've heard good things from other guests. The valet recommends calling for your car 45 minutes before you need it which can be difficult to judge. Especially if you don't read the highlighted note on the valet card and don't realise the 45 minute wait exists until you call for the car. I have stayed at the Metterra twice and each time had issues with the valet. The first time they backed my car into a pole and the hotel was very good about taking a night of my stay off as compensation for the damage. This time my car as a quirk to lock the doors and even though the front desk was informed of this the door kept being left unlocked. Thankfully nothing was lost from the vehicle. Finally in their Fire and Water suite the tub is quite small, there is a lovely shower also, but as a room that sells it self as having a spa tub it is the most basic of spa tubs. It is not deep and the basic home tub length. All this said, I love the bed it is possibly the most comfortable hotel bed I've tried through the years. The staff is super friendly and the rooms are clean. The location on Whyte Ave can't be beat, though if you are a light sleeper you will probably want to ask for a room on the north side of the hotel. I enjoy the close walking distance to the theatres and pubs in the area.
Very nice hotel and a great location. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was not working in the room when we arrived and once the staff was notified, it was remedied right away. The hotel is right on Whyte Avenue which can be noisy throughout the night (think bars and traffic) but the hotel supplies you with complimentary ear plugs to ensure you get that good nights sleep. I would definitely stay here again.
Loved this hotel. Excellent location! Excellent breakfast! Excellent service. Thanks!
My husband and I came here for our 1 year anniversary and had a wonderful time. We've stayed at this hotel before and have always had a pleasant experience. The wine tasting hour is great. The breakfast is plentiful. The staff were welcoming. The free bottle of wine in our room was a great surprise. We recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a night away.
This is a fun little hotel. The fitness room is small clean and functional. The room has a yoga mat. The room had views of downtown and was generally quiet although the hotel did provide complementary earplugs. The wine tasting was nice and breakfast was standard hotel fair. The staff were pleasant and professional. I would stay there again.
Incredible Hotel, complimentary evening Wine tasting rules! Complimentary breakfast was great, they keep bringing fresh food out throughout the morning. Didn't try the free bikes, but will next time. Room was like a luxury apartment, and had a great view of the strip.
Service was very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. We ordered a charcuterie plate that was waiting for us when we arrived. It was very good! Breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices and fresh pastries. We really enjoyed our stay!
The rooms were clean, location is great lots of good restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Valet parking is free, however you have to give 45 min notice to get your car. Morning breakfast was good. They could improve on their valet door service, we had to push our own luggage cart up to our room.
We came to Metterra for our honeymoon and the guy at front was very helpful to us when we had some issues with booking a room — he was professional and courteous. We got a deal for the honeymoon suite and it was absolutely beautiful. It was large and very clean with a amazing looking bathroom. We received a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate our wedding. Thank you for having us at your wonderful hotel. Kind regards, Antonio and Evone.
The Metterra Hotel on Whyte is a fantastic place to stay… If you can manage to get checked in to begin with. The rooms, facilities, and location are all excellent, while arriving and departing in your own vehicle are next to impossible during a summer of construction and festivals. There is no parking on-site and the free valet service that parks your vehicle a couple of blocks away (they will suggest to you to give them up to a 45 minute window for retrieving your vehicle) is unpredictable at best and thus worth exactly what you are paying. This wonderful hotel leaves a poor first impression as you may be frustrated before you even make it in inside the lobby. I strongly suggest you phone the hotel just prior to arriving to arrange for someone to meet you as there most likely will be no valet to greet you… they are too busy scrambling to remove the vehicles that arrived before you. I usually tip but 30% of zero is still zero. Best of luck.
This hotel is awesome. Carolin and I have stayed there on the last 3 trips to see Doctor for cysto due to bladder cancer. Once you factor in for all the little things the hotel does for the guests like the valet parking, free wine taste, breakfast setting the costs seem super reasonable. Our first visit the valet went out of his way to help us out, had a Fire and Water room and enjoyed the stay so much we booked again just before christmas. I booked same type of room for that… stay and added flower arrangement later (didnt think when booked) due to our stay being within 2 days of Carolins birthday. Flower arrangement was gorgeous, and the hotel reversed the charge for it. We booked a third visit again for same room type, but added a meat/cheese tray. I called in early morning to ask about dropping off truck and baggage a couple hours before checkin. The person I talked to said thats fine after he checked reservation he commented we may get checked in early. Upon arrival, we were indeed checked in early, and given an upgrade to a suite. We asked the lounge worker for 4 dishs from the menu to be delivered to the room at a set time. She appeared as requested with the food, all of which was really great tasting with enough there for 3 of us to have supper. Anytime I need to spend a night in Edmonton I plan to book there. The area is noisey at night, but the hotel does have a cute little set of earplugs on night table.
Valet car service works awesome. Very nice walk-in shower. Heating unit quieter than most hotels. Great location for everything.
Quaint mature hotel that is clean and well maintained. Friendly staff and rooms tastefully decorated. Only problem I found was an issue with the hot water. It was hit and miss and made showering a bit of a challenge. Other than that we lived this hotel and would be back.
I love staying here on business because of the location and low relative cost for the value. Located on the west end of Whyte Ave it is a prime walking location to all kinds of shopping, restaurants and bars. They provide free valet and have always had my car waiting for me in the morning. The breakfast is good and the people are friendly. The rooms are extremely nice and the Wi-Fi is reliable. You will not be disappointed.
My sister checked in early and was super excited to learn that we had been upgraded. When I arrived there was a bit of a mix up as the room couldn't host 3 people. The front desk supervisor was very accommodating and got us an additional room due to no more 3 person rooms being available. Very efficient and kind service! The complimentary breakfast was great and there was a wide selection. The only downside to our stay was that our rooms were both beside the housekeeping stations and they were very loud banging their carts in the morning. However, I would definitely stay at this hotel again!
Even though my room was a bit smallish, it was very well designed and supplied. I had everything I needed in the room. The room had plenty of power outlets to let me charge my equipment and was very well lite. The curtains were very opaque and useful to stop the exterior lights to come in the room. I also enjoyed the coffee. One of the best elements of my stay was without a doubt the continental breakfasts that were excellent (I stayed three days). The restaurant environment that was reserved for us, the staff, the quality of the Food and the early availability in the morning (6h30) were all very much appreciated. Bravo for a job well done. Things that could be better: — The TV setup and working with the remote. The Shaw TV listing was a bit cumbersome to work with. There was not integration of the TV remote with the Shaw cable system. For example, you could see a show in the listing but couldn't do anything to go to it. You had to type in on the remote the station number to see it. If it was not satisfactory, you had to type in the station 161 to go back to the listing. And the listing were of a rotating type that you could not control. You had to wait till the listing came back to a specific station to see it again. Also you could not have any information on the show because of the lack of integration of the remote. Not user friendly at all. — The soap and shampoo dispensers were not too functional. They tended to supply the products with difficulty.
Loved the room — we had a gas fireplace and a Jacuzzi tub. I had to phone the front desk to ask how to get the tub to work and the staff member was very helpful. She told me where the button was to start it and offered to send someone to our room if I still could not find it. The gas fireplace had a timer so you could set it to run for a hour if you wanted. It gave off a good amount of heat. The bar fridge had snacks and 2 bottles of wine. The room had a very elegant feel to it and the staff at the front desk were very cheerful and greeted us each and every time we came and went.
Excellent location for enjoying activities on Whyte Ave. We really enjoyed the wine and cheese testing, and the breakfast buffet. The room was comfortable. Noise from Whyte Ave may annoy light sleepers, but complimentary foam ear plugs are provided.
Complimentary wine tasting. Well appointed rooms and suites. Great beds and bathrooms. Delicious breakfast. Thoughtful and courteous staff. What more could one ask for?
It was a bit of a downer that we were there just after a sprinkler mishap. But this is our regular stop and the service continued to be top notch.
I have never been compelled to write an online review until now. Its 1am and I have been trying to sleep since 10:30pm. The bar across the street has a live band going and I can hear everything from the 7th floor. I called front desk and was told by a nice female reception that by-law has been called but they were not able to switch me to another "quieter" room and there no gurantee that rooms on the other side will be more quiet. Makes me wonder why they would knowingly put a guest here in the first place. I guess some people like to sleep with blasting music outside their window. I wore the ear plugs they gave and that didnt help much. At 12:30am I called the front desk for an update on by-law and had a rude, snarky response from a male receptionist. His exact words was "Well, I can't go over there and tell everybody to shut up". Really? I didnt suggest for him to do that. I just wanted to know if by-law can do anything anytime soon. Needless to say, I just made another reservation at another hotel and will be out of here first thing in the morning… if I even can get any sleep at all. DO NOT stay here if you are looking for a quiet night sleep and has to wake up and work the next day! The free breakfast and 2 glasses of wine is not worth losing a night of sleep over.
The Metterra Hotel is one of the best hotels in Edmonton! A hidden gem that you need to check out now! Free wine and cheese in the evening, free breakfast, free valet parking, stunning decor, impeccably clean and beautiful rooms and… amazing service. The staff here go above and beyond always! I love staying here and recommend it to all my friends :)
I travel a lot for work and this is my favorite hotel I stayed in. The location is excellent for nightlife and it is always clean.
I love this hotel, close to every attraction on Whyte Ave. Great bed, quiet rooms, perfect breakfast and amazing staff. I am coming back.
Horrible tiny rooms,, noise. Over priced night staff was rude house keeper only made our beds and never cleaned anything else in the room had to ask every day for more towels and toilet paper even though we paid extra for more guests in the room. Verry disappointed with my experience will never go back and will not recommend.
By far the worst hotel we have ever stayed. The room was disgusting, the bathtab was stained and full of hair. I was very concerned wheter the sheets has been properly cleaned. I wanted to make ou stay very special for my military veteran husband. Unfortunatelly this hotel was a damper.
I booked and 9 nights at this hotel around the first week of September 2014. Firstly the hotel tried to over charge me. Then they wanted to to charge me a $100 a night of pre authorization for "extra charges" I told them I was not prepared to put so much on my card and my American Express card was not accepting so much to go through all at once anyway. It was very frustrating. Secondly: PARKING! the hotel uses a valet parking to park your car which sounds nice in theory. In practice it takes them 45 minutes to an hour to get you your car which is JUST RIDICULOUS Thirdly: The hotel is a PARTY HOTEL. The noise is so loud in the streets that you can hear everything even if you put on the ear plugs which they supply you with. Basically if you don't plan to party till the nightlife finish on Whyte Avenue at 3am then forget about having a peaceful sleep because you wont Fourthly:a box belonging to me which had keys to 3 buildings in Edmonton that I manage SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED at the hotel causing me damages in the thousands of dollars. The hotel initially claimed that the box of keys was accidentally thrown away and that they would take responsibility.
Cute but getting dated. Great, helpful, friendly staff but oldish dirty furniture. Awesome location but can be very noisy on low floors.
This is a great hotel. I have been there twice now and liked it both times. I am not sure why I waited so long to go back the second time. It's located in the best location right on Whyte Ave where all the action is. There is an awesome Mexican restaurant beside it called Julios. You don't have to worry about parking, just pull up, grab your bags and let the valet park your vehicle. Just mention it to the person at the desk that you want the valet to grab it and leave your key with them. They will do it at no extra cost. As far as the room goes it was nice and has a nice little mini bar in it. With decent prices for the mini bar as well. A can of pop might be 2 bucks. Which is not that bad considering some of the mini bars I have seen around. This really is a good place, although you must keep in mind that you will hear the music from the restaurant below until it closes at midnight. If you don't mind a little noise then your okay.
We chose the Metterra Hotel on Whyte to experience Whyte Avenue's vibrant nightlife and not have to take a taxi home. It was great to just walk right into your own private accommodations in the heart of Whyte. With limited street parking for checking in we worried that we would have to walk our luggage some distance to the hotel. The staff were helpful in letting us park in back of the hotel and gain entrance via the back door. This made the check in process effortless and the valet took car of parking our car. The rooms were spacious, spotless and well equipped. Service was friendly and professional. The hotel has a relaxing refreshment lounge for guests just one level up from the main entrance which we enjoyed. We look forward to our next stay and recommend this hotel to anyone considering a night on Whyte.
Pay more to get less. The room look good but not so noisy between the AC grinning the car an motorcycle buzzing up white ave and the the bass pumping up from the club my wife and I haven't sleep all night. After that we woke up with a bellow average breakfast that is no were near the one you would get at the Matrix. Seriously disappointing I we will never. Come back here again.

RespondI reserved an air room over a month in advance for Saturday and Sunday Night of May long weekend. (For a cost of 400.00 plus tax, 200/night) My wife and I were to be celebrating our anniversary that weekend. I was very specific that it needed to be on the front side of the hotel over looking Whyte Ave. As apposed to the alley (because alleys are so romantic). We arrived, and checked in and everything was fine, but when we arrived at our room we realized that it was indeed on the back of the hotel overlooking the alley. Thinking it was a simple error, I informed the front staff, I was told that the party who was in the room we had reserved the night before had decided to extend their stay, so we got the room facing the alley. The staff said nothing could be done and did not seem at all concerned when I said I would find a different hotel. I called a few other hotels, but due to the long weekend everything was full, and we were forced to stay. Staff must have already known this, as they were unwilling to offer any form of compensation. Overall I was very unimpressed. For 200+ a night I would expect a little better service. Next time I will just stay at a Best Western, the rates are cheap so even if you end up with poor service you don't really mind. My recommendation would be to stay ANYWHERE other than this hotel.
