Reviews of Best Western PLUS Port O'Call Hotel 3*
Always a great buffet on Sunday. Mr. Todd loves it.
I have had several stays here due to work in the area, there are several hotels closer to my worksite including another best western, however from day one I have rather enjoyed staying here. Rooms are clean, the food at the restaurant is superb, and the staff are incredibly friendly. I haven't had any complaints what so ever and can be rather fussy with hotels as I stay in them so much for work.
Great staff. Very friendly.
Excellent place to bring kids! Nice rooms, and a great water park.
We have stayed at this hotel a few times already. And we love it, we keep coming back. We have small children and the water park is a blast! It’s clean, warm and TONS of fun. And you have to try the cheese pizza in the restaurant, oh and the breakfast in the morning is pretty amazing😍 (Real eggs! You don’t see that often) But aside that. I’d love to give “Mo” the evening manager a big shout out. My daughter had forgotten her prized Possession stuffed animals; I think in the restaurant. One is an older Beenie baby that I got in 1994, (so quite a bit of sentiment) and the other one she just got for her 5th birthday. We searched high and low and asked staff to help us find it. And no luck. Then later in the evening I went and asked Mo if he had seen them. He said he would call around for us. And sure enough he found them both♥️🙏🏼And got them both sent to our room! My entire family was over the moon. Might not sound like much but it’s pretty close to our hearts and we won’t forget it or him. Thanks for being great Mo! 🥰
We have awesome experience from pool to rooms up to the food at skygrill. Paolo Alcover the best cook. Shall I say the best crews or servers as a whole in food restaurant section…
I always love this place. It's clean, staff are friendly.
I honestly don’t even know where to start. From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty. From the front desk to the manager Robin the staff went above and beyond to make this the perfect staycation! Amazing pool and water park for the kiddos, a ton of amenities Nearby for any and every need. I’m sure I could go on and on…. But finger cramps due to typing this has me ending this review.
We have stayed here twice now and both times have been very positive. Rooms are spacious, clean and bright. The staff are friendly. The pool and water slides are amazing. My son has a blast. If ever we’re in Calgary again, we will stay here.
A fun, Inexpensive family getaway. Clean, safe and always enjoyable.
HUGE RAVE! We just checked in, amazing customer service! Super friendly staff. Comfortable beds and affordable rates.
Amazing, super friendly staff that go well beyond great customer service. We loved staying there! Will come again!
Great staff. Beds are very comfortable. Pillows are great too.
Another excellent stay here as a little escape from reality. Front end staff, housekeeping and food are all friendly and kind.
Kids love the pool and slides. Staff is great.
It's a nice place to stay, amazing water slide and great meals.
Quiet but fun environment. Restaurant staff are absolutely amazing!
Swimming pool is great, awesome slide.
Beds are extremely comfortable and rooms were immaculate.
The employees are all very helpful and kind. Very good price. They have good amenities. My kids love their indoor pool. Restaurant, bar, salon onsite. You can also avail their sleep, park, and fly service. Will definitely stay here again!
Great and helpful staff … great water park.
Great experience. Staff are friendly and helpful. Price was good given all that’s included. Location was perfect. Highly recommend.
Awesome staff and hotel! Great underground parking.
Anawesome hotel with great helpful staff.
We had an issue booking with a third party and the staff was so helpful in helping us rectify! They were very pleasant and professional as well. Our son had a blast on the water slides!
We really enjoyed our stay! Kids loved the waterpark. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were so very friendly and helpful. Everything from check in and check out, house keeping staff, and the staff at the restaurant. Will definitely be back.
Good enough to stay for family with kids that loves indoor pool. The price for executive suites is worth to spend. They also offering a very nice buffet breakfast. We had really enjoyed our stay.
Great friendly service as soon as we walked in the door!
A decent hotel with a great pool and water slides.
The room was large enough for our family of 6 and had all the amenities we hoped for. The breakfast buffet was very affordable and had many options. The kids loved the pool and slides. We will definitely stay here again.
Great value, and great family friendly hotel. Pool/waterpark made every night enjoyable with the kids. Hotel and room was also very clean, and well appointed. Staff was great. I was surprised at the quality of food for in room service. The overall experience exceeded my expectations for the price point. Very affordable. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else if traveling with kids.
Updated hotel with welcoming staff and lobby. Clean and attractive rooms. Good sized bathrooms. Free parking. Awesome pool and water park. Highly recommend.
Came to the hotel with my son and husband, absolutely the most family friendly hotel I’ve come across and we loved the water park! The hotel has so many facilities to use especially the most wonderful was the (Nail salon/spa) went in for their luxurious pedicure, can I just say one of the best relaxing spa experiences I have ever had, their work was excellent, clean and the most friendliest ladies EVER! They were so accommodating not to mention they transformed my feet which definitely needed some care, was beyond any pedicure I’ve ever had before. Overall will definitely stay at the hotel again as everyone is so welcoming and will definitely be back for the wonderful spa, I recommend!
I’ve been to this hotel a total of 3 times and I’m always so blown away by one staff member as they are all kind and helpful there is one that’s blows me away. I believe her name was Virgina a very kind and respectful lady who always amazes me as she remembers my family every time. She always knows our drink orders, shes always trying to make my kids laugh which isn’t hard to do cause they love her. She has such a warm and inviting feelings that could melt a strangers heart. I truly hope she can be recognized for all her wonderful efforts and attributes. Thank you for making our stays as wonderful as possible.
We always stay here when we fly out of Calgary. The rooms are great. Being able to park underground especially in winter and being able to leave your car while you travel is great.
Excellent hotel, nicest staff we've encountered! It was also the only hotel that had a truly handicapped room. Really enjoyed the stay. Its clean and service is great. And fun for the whole family.
Great place if you have Kids. The pool is awesome. With two hot tubes and two water slides you can settle in for a great relaxing time in the hot tube while the kiddos go nuts on the slides. Also the rooms are nice.
I was just here for a seminar. It seems to have nice facilities, indoor pool with waterside, fitness room etc… They provided a pretty good lunch of salads and sandwiches. Our conference rooms were in the basement. It would have been nicer to have windows to the outside.
Went for Sunday Brunch Buffet. Good variety of food that was tasty. Omelette station and a roast station for freshly cook and cut food. Nice mix of breakfast and lunch choices with dessert, fruit, and a chocolate fountain. Very friendly and helpful staff.
We booked 12 rooms for a party of 42 students and 12 adults through Lisa. Upon our arrival, Mo already had organized us with the paperwork and he was ready to send us on our way to our rooms to unpack as soon as we came in. Robin also made sure that we were comfortable at the hotel and assisted the chaperones with their needs in their rooms. I heard from one of the restaurant workers that the waterpark was closed for 10 days prior to our arrival and they did everything they could to make sure that the pool was working by the time we checked in. The kids enjoyed the waterpark and even wanted to swim the day we were checking out. The hotel staff that I talked to was very friendly and although the price was on the steeper side, you get what you pay for and I am very satisfied with our stay. Both the adults and the kids really liked the food that they have at the restaurant that is located inside the hotel.
My kids love this place. My only complaint is the cost of breakfast. I was blown away at how expensive breakfast cost. Besides that the pool area is great and the rooms are comfortable.
No hotel experience is perfect. Good room, great place for families with children. Their water park/pool is great. The breakfast was not included and was 15$ not worth it when there is so many other options near by. But I would go again. I was impressed with the free underground parking. That was super handy.
It was clean and convenient to the airport. The only thing is that there is not much parking around the hotel for the overnight guests. They offer parking for people flying from the airport, so that limits the space for people who do not use that service they provide. This is the only problem we seen and experienced on your last stay at this hotel. I think we got the last free parking space. They do offer underground parking for a fee but we choose not to use it. $12/night.
The hotel was awesome! We tried to get poolside rooms but all sold out by the time of booking our room… The service and front end staff were very accommodating and friendly… The restaurant have great staff but the food was horrible… The over all experience was great but will not be paying extra for dinner or breakfast again during our next stay with the Port o Call…
We had so much fun at the pool but that was about all I have to rave about the place. The rooms are surfaced cleaned and the food is mediocre or less definitely not worth it's price. We ate at the hotel twice at dinner then again for breakfast. I mean they were trying to pass a pre made hamburger patty off as a Salisbury steak on their buffet. I would never eat at the hotel again but would stay for the pool.
Clean, well managed hotel. We did not find the pools cold (as many reviews have indicated). Tried both the breakfast buffet and dinner in the lounge — both were good and offered a nice selection of items. Rooms are standard but are well kept and common areas are well designed and nicely decorated. All staff encountered were kind, helpful and courteous. Underground parking during our stay was excellent. Drainage is poor (in the parkade) so be prepared for puddles.
We stayed there last night and I took my daughter and my husband it was a really wonderful stay we went into the pool twice and had so much fun if you're looking for a place that's quiet this place didn't actually get quiet until 12 a. M. But my daughter had no problem falling asleep at 7:30 p. M. So I personally didn't mind the extra noise but if you're picky about that stuff and you probably want to stay some where else. We also ate at the buffet which I would have rather gotten room-service. Which we ended up getting at around 10pm. Also I ended up getting a pedicure at the salon that they have and it was very relaxing.
also the hot tub downstairs by the gym was broken. We went down there to use the pool to get some more quiet time but the pool was too cold for my three year old to handle so had to go back upstairs to the main pool which wasn't a problem because she actually enjoyed the slides more. I personally just wanted some quiet time because the main pool was really loud but it wasn't a problem. The working hot tub made it worth it. Friendly positive helpful staff. Great service whenever calling front desk. We also got a late check out no problem. Will stay here in the future for sure.
Nicely renovated. But truly disappointed in the buffet selection. Felt it catered to children rather than the adults who would be paying. Pizza and pasta night is every Friday and Saturday night. But the selection is so very limited! Jello was the only item offered up for desert. Imagine! I of course sent my complaint to the chef. He had the good sense to put out an array of little pastries. It also seems there is no particular dress code in this lovely dining room. Use to be… no shirt. No shoes… no service. I was offended by the appearance of one particular couple that were seated beside us. Won't be going back.
My family absolutely loved our stay at this hotel it has an amazing water park (water is on the colder side for the parents lol) and the rooms are lovely. The staff in the restaurant are the best I've ever seen, my only complaint is there was no vegetarian options for a dinner buffet everything included meat which is something we have not come across before. The staff were great and made us some vegetarian food at request. The brunch was the best I've ever had at any restaurant and I would recommend it to everybody, so may options. The kids loved the chocolate fountain!
While not the newest or shiniest hotel around the staff and variety of services and amenities will ensure you have a relaxing and pleasant stay. The staff is always ready to help out and always friendly! If you are flying this is definitely the best option for stay in Calgary. Especially with kids or small groups.
The rooms we ended up with were clean and nice. Customer service was good. Our original rooms smelled very bad but they moved us. Not sure what the issue was. The rooms were quiet despite it being new years eve. The pool was fun for all ages. Food was good.
This hidden gem is amazing. We got moved from the Sheraton cavalier as their watermark was suddenly down (main reason we planned to stay there), so we found this place. The waterslides, pools, hot tubs are very modern and enjoyable. Price is amazing, with a prepaid family breakfast buffet ($30) & heated underground parking for no charge. Last thing that really made our stay great, the service is unbelievable. Lots of follow up calls, kids are allowed in the lounge… too much to go on and on about, just try them out!
Hotel is great as usual, check in is easy and I love the underground parking! I had to drop a star because of the water park. They had an issue with the boiler so the water was too cold for swimming. They do have a second pool but the kids sure missed the water slides. Some communication before arriving would have been convenient, an email would work!
As someone who spends more time in various hotels than at home, I can confidently say that the Port is unrivaled in its customer service. I often go as far as to say that it feels like my second home. All staff are extremely courteous, flexible, and accommodating, and they consistently go beyond their roles and responsibilities just to bring a smile to guests' faces. I would like to extend a special thank you to all the managers and reception staff for all that you do, each one of you make my stays so very enjoyable. Be sure not to miss Jetz for an evening sports game coupled with a choice cold beverage, nor the amazing buffet breakfast.
You are never going to beat finding a better place to stay than Best Western Port O'Call in Calgary! Moe & His team are amazing people that treat everyone like family! From the Beautiful Rooms to the BEST BUFFET BREAKFAST I have EVER Had! The staff really care about making everything just perfect for your stay! To all the Staff at Port O'Call, Thank-you for making my week away from home so comfortable! Thank-you for making me feel like family! Thank-you for the Amazing Breakfast Each morning to help me start my Long Day's on the right foot! (Loved the Classic Hits Xmas Music) THANK — YOU! Can't wait to stay and visit again in the future!
We had an excellent stay at the Port O Call with a large group of International high school students. We had a great experience with the facilities of the fitness centre and waterslide which accommodated over 100 students. The breakfast buffet was efficient and exceptional and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming to our group which included students from a dozen different countries. Thanks for a great experience. We would certainly come back for the value and the quality of the service as well as the great facilities.
Conveniently close to the airport with a shuttle service. The room was comfy and clean with a nice small balcony. The agents at the desk were great; one even called me by name and this was my first stay. The restaurant was cozy with great staff and the breakfast buffet was awesome. I'd stay here again for sure.
I attended a seminar here and I thought that the place was well kept. The seminar area was well lit and the internet was fast. The food they served was surprisingly good. It was quite tasty. Kudos to the chef and the people that prepared them. I would attend another seminar here if given a chance.
This an excellent hotel. I have stayed here off and on over the past 15 years. It has come a long way in the last five years. Its proximity to the airport is excellent and some of the older staff at the from desk (Moe) are fantastic. However some are not. Don't think of using the shuttle if you are not there at the exact times otherwise you wait and the younger staff member I dealt with really did not care. Would I stay there again. Only if the taxi fare and room charge did not exceed the price of the competition and there is a lot of competition.
Amazing staff, every encounter we had with any staff member whether it be a front desk person or a housekeeping person was a pleasant one. They always had a smile and a greeting. The rooms were super clean and very comfortable. The pools were awesome for families or couples. All around great place to stay. Highly recommend it.
This is a favorite hotel for our family when we visit Calgary. It actually has made Calgary a more frequent destination for us, as it provides a perfect venue for visiting friends and family — even hosting them! With its amazing pools, waterslides, full restaurant, lounge, fitness, coffee bar, racquetball courts, salon, our stay is never boring and we often have others come visit US! The staff are really what makes this place. They truly care that you enjoy your stay. Oh, and they offer free airport shuttle service, so if you need to make Calgary a stopover during your travels, this is a perfect option.
Great location, close drive to all attractions. Rooms service food is amazing. This place a great pool for kids (and big kids). Rooms are spacious and clean! My family has stayed here 4 times now, and he kids are always asking when they are coming back! We love it here!
We booked this hotel based mostly on the water slides (and proximity to the airport) and we were not disappointed. The kids loved the slides and the pool. Jas, the pool/slide attendant, was great working direct the kids at the top of the slide. He even suggested a less crowded hot tub for me to enjoy while reading my book. No free breakfast, but since we had to leave at 5am, this was not an issue. Front desk gave us great advice for getting to the Stampede and other suggestions on things to do while in town. Would definitely stay here again.
My only complaint is that the room had a funky smell when we first walked in but it went away when we turned on the air and had a fan blowing to move the air around. I loved the security of the underground parking. Even though our neighbors had four kids with them that we could hear in the hallway we didn't hear them when we got into our room. The staff is super friendly and the food was delicious. The pools were fun too, my kids had a blast on the slides and the hot tubs were indeed HOT. We definitely plan to stay here again the next time we stay Calgary. Thank you for the GREAT experience.
We had a nice stay. The room was just right, nice beds. In room Internet and Wi-Fi. The pool was fun, it has an area for smaller children as well as the main slides so your younger family members can have a blast without worry of getting hurt. The location in Calgary is very nice. The immediate surroundings are a bit industrial with Deerfoot Trail just a few blocks away. The onsite restaurants left a bit to be desired that is offset by the high number of great dinning options within a short walk or drive. Top that off with great, friendly staff.
After having our flight cancelled and being stranded at the airport with 22 teenagers the staff at Best Western came to our rescue! The staff is fantastic and very accommodating. I can't say enough good things about the hotel's cleanliness and the waterpark is fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel! Thanks so much for all you've done from the Sexsmith Secondary School Travel Club!
Easy to get to. It is an older hotel that was completely redone. Room was nice, clean well equipped. Beds are good. It was a two slide waterpark with two hot tubs as part of the hotel. There is also a second pool and hot tub by the exercise room. The kids loved it. There is no included continental breakfast, the attached restaurant had a great breakfast buffet. It's close to the airport, there is a Tim Hortons across the road, a McDonald's, and Starbucks just down the street. It was $199 CAN for the room, but it is the middle of July in the middle of the Calgary Stampede. I recommend it.
The room was spacious and well cleaned. The location of the hotel, McKnight Blvd, Calgary Alberta (close to the airport) is easily accessible and easy to find. My children fully enjoyed the water park and pool. The attached restaurant was excellent. The waiter was kind and super helpful. There was wide food selection, great quality. We really appreciated the breakfast buffet that was available. We had a great experience at the Best Western Port O'Call Hotel. We will definitely be making another stay.
Great place to stay. Nice rooms and good food right at the restaurant. Oh the pool and waterslides are pretty good as well.
After having what I think may have been the worst week ever, Sonia at the front desk made it all go away. She was so pleasant, helpful, and kind. She put me in a lovely, very clean, king suite with a beautiful view of Calgary. She gave me a loyalty club treat bag even though I was not a member… she made me smile for the first time that day. The Skyharbour Grill at the hotel offers a selection of amazing food. Prime rib was delish! I had an awesome sleep and breakfast was perfect. With REAL eggs thick sliced bacon, lots of fresh fruit! A very pleasant Jama took me to the airport in the courtesy shuttle in a matter of minutes! I would HIGHLY recommend the BWP Port O'Call! Great place as well if you have children… the water park was teeming with little ones! I'd give them 6 stars if I could!
Wedding Bliss… I just want to write a review in regards to the amazing service I received from start to finish for holding my wedding at this hotel. Virginia was the lady I dealt with for getting everything set up for my wedding. She was very professional and quick to reply with all my questions I had during the process. She had all the information laid out and was very easy to decide on all the details we wanted to have. Before the weeding we were able to taste the food and make any changes without any issues. The day of our wedding we stayed in the Honeymoon Suite which was very clean and beautiful, From there Virginia was there on the Saturday to make sure I was ready to walk down the aisle and that my future husband did not see me. She was so amazing to deal with a review does not quite cut it. That evening went without a hitch. The event staff that was there during the evening were so wonderful and professional and took care of all my guest if they needed anything. The food was really delicious and everyone was complimenting it. Thank you!
I came here for one night with my ps4. I'm trying to save money and didn't want to change flights for 300 dollars. I stayed here. Room was clean. All I wanted to do was stay in and play ps4. However the HDMI outlet didn't work. Here I thought my day couldn't get any worse. I called the manager and told him I just want to stay in and play PlayStation. He said that all TV's in rooms have HDMI disabled. But I could have a free movie which I refused. I told him I was upset because I now had to spend the next 14 hours doing nothing. He said to be patient and he will do his best to serve me. He got a hold of the tech guy and went out of his way to try to fix my stay. 2 hours later the manager showed up with a portable TV with HDMI. This is exceptional service. I never write reviews bu this story I just had to share. Thanks best Western. So appreciated!
Great hotel! Awesome pool for the yoing and old. Will definately stay again and recommend!
What a wonderful experience. We stayed here the first time because it was a random booking and the best price. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. When we booked the second time about 2 weeks later the girl at the front counter remembered us by name. Our dog got sick at the last minute so we called to cancel because we couldn't take our dog. They told us they had a sister hotel under another company that allowed pets. They cancelled our reservation at the last minute and gave us the number to book with their sister company. Our kids had been looking forward to the first class water park for weeks and they were sad we couldn't go back to the same hotel so even though we weren't guests at the Best Western they gave us full access to the waterpark at no charge. Better rates then half the other hotels for more quality. As far as we're concerned there is no other hotel in Calgary.
Awesome water park for the kids! It's much bigger than the average hotel water slide. The restaurant has good food and the service we received was very knowledgeable about food allergies, and very conscientious.
Very clean. Friendly staff. Nice amenities. Overall a very pleasant stay.
Pool water slide is lots of fun.
If you have a family with kids, then this hotel is by far the best bank for you buck in all of calgary. My family and I stay here every single time we come to calgary. We stay at this hotel probably 4 times per year. You cannot beat the value of clean rooms, amazing breakfast buffet and huge waterpark. We will continue to be customers for many many years to come.
Buffet was good, service was great. Nothing to say about rooms though, I didn't stay there.
The parking, setup is a little cumbersum, as you need your room card to access the underground parking, which means you need to pull your vehicle out before checking out. The underground parking is also tight to navigate, so if you have a full size SUV, or truck, you'll need to park outside. The room was clean, and comfortable, however we were woken at 7:00am by a group of kids running down the hall screaming, and again at 7:30am. (This is a one off, and we were given a discount on our next visit to a Best Western. The pool area was nice, though the pool itself was a little cold, the hot tub was a good temperature, but lacked decent jetting. The food is overpriced, we ordered 2 10" pizzas from a place claiming "Calgary's best Pizza" the pizza was good (not amazing) but it cost $40. There's a breakfast buffet which is good, it has a generous selection, with well cooked food and a good selection of fruits and desserts, but again, it's overpriced. $15 per adult, and half for a child is a little steep considering you're already paying to stay there. $10 and $5 would be a better fit. All in all, it's a nice hotel with a dated layout, and expensive food. If you use this hotel, be aware that the cost of the room may not be your only expense.
Good hotel. Staff was friendly. Pool was warm. Not cold as we were told. Also pool is open pretty late which we liked. Only complaint was room wasn't insulated for sound. Since we were by the elevator, we could hear other guests late at night. Other than that, they were very accommodating. Plan on staying here again.
I'm Diamond Select with Best Western and don't recommend this location. Sure, they have a five star breakfast but I end up just going to Tim Hortons. I find this hotel is crowded, outdated and not well insulated for noise. The Best Western a few blocks north on Freeport Blvd is significantly better but that's reflected in their price. Port O'Call is decent when compared to other Best Westerns in Calgary but it's far from being on the 'nice list' when you compare all Best Westerns in the province; and sadly, yes I've been to them all. Check out the BW Premiere on Freeport Blvd or The brand new Hampton Inn north of the airport parking lot before making a reservation here.
Best hotel in alberta. Water slides are great fun and the hotel supplies life jackets as every hotel with pool should. They have Gluten Free options, plenty of parking, close to Tim Hortons and the Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We stay here every time we go to Calgary, wish Edmonton had a hotel like this.
