Review of SunBreeze Suites 4*

My stay at Sunbreeze Suites was the worse hotel experience I have ever endured. If it is possible that you can stay ANYWHERE else, do that and save yourself the hassle of being harassed by the staff here. This place does not allow for any of the registered guests to have visitors on the premises. Never have I been to a hotel than won't even allow a guest's visitor to come up and see the hotel. But, not only is this bogus policy strictly enforced, it is not expressly stated when booking. When I spoke with the manager to ask for a 15 minute exception to have friends come up to see the hotel, I was met with rudeness and constant interruptions that made the conversation last twice as long as it needed to. This manager, Julia Edwards, was incredible rude and disrespectful. She later told the guards not to allow us to have those very guests go up to the hotel — after saying yes earlier in the day and after I volunteered to add their names to a security list and even to pay the extra $25 USD to have them come up. On that second phone call the manager proceeded to yell and interrupt me as I explained to her my displeasure with the policy and with her inability to handle guest's issues. She then told me that we were free to leave without addressing the issue. As it was Costa Maya that weekend, other hotels were booked out, so her suggestion that we leave was incredibly inconsiderate and irresponsible. The manager stated that the no visitor policy is for guest safety. But, at 10PM they lock the front entrance to the hotel and force guests to walk through a dark alley, then onto the beach, and then enter through the pool area. I have videos of just how dark and dangerous this alley is for young women. I'll try to post it. Clearly, hotel management is not concerned with guest safety and, as a native Belizean, I am embarrassed by the way these people treat guests. It's one thing for a hotel to have ridiculous policies, it's another for a manager to treat guests with such disrespect and rudeness. She tainted our stay on the beautiful island of San Pedro and we ended up leaving simply to try and enjoy the rest of our stay without the stench of her attitude. We found a place at half the cost with more amenities, nicer staff, and clear policies. I'm happy to recommend that place and to further comment on this terrible experience with others who are interested in visiting Belize. If you have another option, stay anywhere else. — Dr. McSweeney.
