Had to wait 1.5 hours for chicken nuggets and burgers. Shocking service. Very poor effort. Apparently daily specials are at nigh even though signs don’t say this. Never again! 0/5

Lovely decor and atmosphere. The lunch specials are delicious and very well priced. Customer service is exceptional and a very family friendly space. Staff are always polite and welcoming. Special shout out to Jo and Maggie who go the extra mile. Rambutans is our regular haunt for coffee or lunch when in the city and hands down one of our favourite spots in Townsville.

We were extremely grateful to find a last minute room in Townsville after previous accommodation fell through. Our room was clean and comfortable and the customer service was outstanding. Our dinner upstairs at Armarti’s was fabulous, as were the $10 cocktails! The breakfast and complimentary coffee was a hit and just what was needed before hitting the road again. Thanks 😊

Reception staff are horrible. Very rude and need to take a lesson on customer service. Food was nice but what a joke. / took forever for food, drinks where like 40 min wait. Food was that much of a stuff around and took so long no one stayed for cake… just a horrible experience and will not be recommending this place to anyone. Plenty of other place to visit. For great food and Accommodation. Avoid this place.

Great hotel, location and ammenities.

Stayed a couple of weeks back, tried to order 2 meals off the menu to which I was told were not available at that particular time so I ordered the chicken parmigiana. Which was absolute crap as you can see in the picture. Chips were cold as well. Very disappointed in the restaurant however the hotel is still nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are fantastic! We will definitely come back here to stay.

Had a really good $12 lunch. Quesadillas. So much on my plate, I couldn't eat it all. Lovely staff. Nice atmosphere.

Used to love this place but it has seriously gone down hill. Mothers day they had run out of 3 things on the menu we wanted (keep in mind this was lunch time and they were booked for dinner too) my steak was under cooked and tough, the mushrooms sauce was flavourless the vegetables were just sad. The mash potato had just been slapped onto the plate and you could see the shape of the tub it had been microwaved in. The chips had obviously been cooked a while before and just been popped back through the fryer, I have to believe that the staff knew these issues existed because not once were we asked how we enjoyed the meal. On the upside the wine was lovely, over priced but nice. I am absolutely qualified to may these comments as I'm a chef. Won't be back. Plus was refused glass of sparkling wine which I was entitled to for having a steak main meal. Poor form and thanks for wrecking mother's day for me.

Went for dinner last night for husband birthday and ordered pizza and lasagne for our 2 grandkids and pizza came out straight away and had to ask 4 times about the kids lasagne. Finally got it and was dry, lasagne was very tuff could cut it with a knife and meat had no taste. Very overdone and must have been microwaved for ages. Very disappointing and was not happy.

Absolutely loved our week stay at Rambutan. Location couldn’t be better with a 5 min walk to The Strand & Water Park one direction or 2 min to the city the other direction. Great layout with undercover parking & security. Spacious rooms with an amazing pool & cabana’s. Pool side bar and restaurant. Food is AMAZING! and very good prices. Kids loved it & already are begging to book another trip back to Townsville to stay here again lol. Staff are amazing, Jo on the front desk in particular. Always super helpful & greets you by name & very friendly to our kids. The staff remembered my sons birthday & wished him a happy birthday. My hubby said was the best hotel stay we have had and I absolutely agree. Will definitely be back for our annual Townsville holiday. Thank you Rambutan.

Stayed overnight on our way to Port Douglas & enjoyed it so much we stayed for 3 nights on our way back, absolutely loved it. Nice rooms, great pool, bar and the restaurants — both upstairs by the pool and downstairs were excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were fabulous! We will most definitely be back! ❤️

We had the Wednesday $10 burger special. Both hubby and I agreed they were the best meals we have had in a long time! Great customer service too.

Awful food and drinks. My beer tasted like like a flat soda. Went in for some oysters and almost threw up in my mouth. Would never recommend.

Have stayed here multiple times and never let down! Such a perfect position on a historic lane of buildings. Sunset is lovely from the balcony and rooms are beautiful design. Can’t rave enough.

The housekeeping service is like non-existing. Dirty dusty floor.

Great budget stay. Nice clean rooms. Amenities are good but need to be better cleaned as we saw rubbish under the tables by the pool lounges which looked like it has been there a while.

Just had a 70th Birthday here, staff were great and the food was very good also. Long time needed a new place to dine and enjoy.

Just tried the new Armarti’s restaurant and it was delicious, the staff were friendly and attentive and dining out by the pool was lovely. We will be back.

Overpriced non-alcoholic drinks. A standard soft drink costs $4.50. As a designated driver, I don't expect to be gouged on price for el-cheapo post mix. Appalling. Staff were nice though.

Very over priced for what is provided it looked lovely in the photos but our experience didn’t reflect this. No oven in the kitchen and very little cutlery available at all times! A few of the staff are very rude as well.

The restaurant food is top notch, very southern USA flavours. All meals are substantial even the '6' inch Po Boys and the chips are a treat. Ambiance is clever and relaxed. Staff deliver 'good service' in spades. Very good choice of drinks and tasty bar snacks if that's your go. Out the front are great water views and usually a nice breeze; with a long bar/servery in the middle and a pool in the rear; what more could you want.

I spent one nice at there and it was amazing. Beautiful place and service was outstanding. Jacob helped me over the phone to make my booking and then he recommended few awesome places to have dinner. Thank you for that.

One of the best Youth Hostels I have stayed in. Clean, friendly. Bar and great roof-top pool. Good food, reasonably priced. Centrally located. Good value for money. Wasn't going to tell you. But I have. Don't all come at once!

Despite being a backpacker hostel Rambutan was stylish and refined. I attended Rambutan for dinner and found it very enjoyable. Drinks menu was good with a range to select from including a good cocktails list. Food was great also with plenty of dishes to choose from. We ended up getting multiple dishes allowing everyone at the table to try different things. Seating area was very nice, comfortable and relaxed.

The location of this hostel is really great, not far from the beach nor the inner city and it also looks very modern and has a nice beach style to it. It actually looks and feels more like a hotel than a hostel. So for that I would give it 5 stars, but if you want a place to relax and be able to sleep through the night than this is definitely NOT your place! The sleeping rooms are all on the third floor where the rooftop bar and the pool area is (which is quite cool on first sight) but the music plays untill midnight and when you come back from an exhausting day trip, there's no chance you'll find some sleep before midnight. And when you've finally fallen asleep you get woken up 4 times at night because stupid guests run around the pool area (which is just one meter next to your door) and scream around and hit the glass doors shut — who surround the pool — and that sound is super loud so you WILL wake up. And if you want it to be quiter you would have to close your only window which faces the pool and yeah ist still very loud after that. And the air gets bad in your room… Great. And the night staff does nothing. Like there are cameras everywhere right? And they can hear the noise for sure. How can they let this happen every flipping night and not do something about it?

Good location in the city for backpackers. Plenty of good restaurants/bars around. Parking across the street free on weekends. Clean, modern dorm rooms. Included linen. Great social area with decent restaurant and bar directly outside of rooms. Dorm rooms can be a bit noisy on weekends if there is live music/djs you just gotta join the party! Staff very friendly and professional.

We simply walked in to get a cool drink after a hard day in the streets on a Sunday afternoon and we were treated to a fresh apple juice made on the spot! We were treated beautifully by the young lady behind the bar and we're nearly tempted by the lovely delicacies in the window but we resisted! The chairs were very relaxing and welcoming and the freshly made green apple drink was very refreshing. We relaxed for some time before they closed up. It was a bit of a trek to the toilet facilities (disabled/unisex) but thank God it was clean and tidy and well maintained. A very Pleasant experience indeed but we cannot comment on the accommodation or the food but the menu looked very tempting.

Fantastic place as usual. Great, chill atmosphere and decent food and drink prices. Floor and tables are a bit sticky though.

I am local in Townsville and have stayed here a couple of times now when I stay in town. Nice food and very friendly staff. It is a very well presented accommodation and very clean.

Great food and bar. Private rooms were nice and clean, better than some hotels I've seen. Really nice pool area with music and interesting decor.

BEST HOSTEL EVER Awesome pool area, working AC in all rooms, staff was helpful 24/7, nice bed, inlcuded towel. Clean room and bathroom. Awesome bar on rooftop. Kitchen lacked utensils though.

Really nice place! Clean rooms and updated with bathrooms in the rooms. The pool area is great and they have a bar as well. It's a little odd though the way it's half hotel, half hostel so there was a mix of travellers and older people on vacay. The place itself has three levels, and the kitchen and common area are on the second with the parking garage so it was hot getting there and not very big spaces. The one thing I could recommend is getting some more kitchen pots and pans. I would go back. The people were friendly, and it was cheap for what you got.

Love the relaxed vibes and the music. Meeting people all over the world. Its amazing.

Best hostel I have stayed in, in Australia!. Lovely pool area, the bar and restaurant are closed for refurbishment but it's such a nice space up there. Would 100% recommend.

Area really nice, but for example the sofas are dirty. The kitchen is way to hot, too small and dirty as well. The pool was clean and really cool, bar looks good. The room was clean, but the bathroom smelled horrible. In my opinion definitely NOT the best hostel in Australia.

Had our Christmas party in one of the cabanas — was an awesome day! Relaxing, great food and reasonable priced drinks. Love this place!

Nice and clean. Comfortable rooms, great pool and bar area. Only complaint is that the communal kitchen was ridiculously understocked, very few pots pans plates etc, and almost nothing to wash up with.

I enjoyed my stay at the Rambutan and thoroughly recommend it if you are staying in Townsville travelling. The hostel side to this is great because it is extremely luxurious in comparison to some hostels we are use to whilst travelling combined with a very low price. Cheaper than most for a very high standard. Spotlessly clean, rooms are modern, pool area and decking are great and the bar is lively. All the facilities are there that you will need. Overall I was extremely impressed with the standard of this hostel for the price, it is hotel like and more of a resort. Great deals on food for backpackers, 10$ meals 5$ beers. I couldn’t pick a fault that affected my time here but if I had to nitpick then ensuite bathrooms in a shared dorm really isn’t a good idea and obviously it being a licensed venue there is no byo. But great hostel, try it out!

Food was great, atmosphere was great. No table service but dedicated line to order food. Bar waits were a bit long but expected as other functions on as well as normal patrons. Unfortunately, reserved table chairs were 'borrowed' before we even arrived and a few people tried to sit at the table even though there was a reserved sign in the middle. Lift broke throughout the night.

Popular place, even on a Tuesday. We had the fish cakes and calamari entrees. The flavours were amazing — so fresh! Sometimes the service is a bit slow, but out is a great location.

If I'd made this review two years ago it would have been five stars. The food was always perfect, staff were great but our last three trips have been disasters. Waiting at an empty bar with three other customers for 15 minutes for a drink while a staff member chatted away to some girls. And I don't know if they lost their head chef but they didn't have several items on the menu and what they had wasn't up to what we had come to expect from Rambutan. Used to be our favorite place to hang out but I don't think after the last few times we'd consider going back.

This place is great. Has an excellent out door area with couches, beds and a pool. Accommodation is cheap and it is in the centre of town, a couple of seconds walk from the front door of all of Townsville biggest club's. Staff are friendly and the food is decent.

Stopped in for drinks and a snack, excellent spiced mule jugs! Chips and aoili were also great, nice and crisp.

Awesome place, a hostel that is more like a resort. Little bit more expensive but completely worth it to stay at a nice place rather than one of the trashy hostels. By the way this is also a YHA hostel.

Nice pool, real cosy rooms. Beautiful scenery from the rooftop bar. Also a really decent backpackers meal, the only downside: the pastasauce was to sweet.

Great! We had Breakfast at the Stones Throw Cafe and staff were exceptional. The food was very good and I can recommend their eggs bene and pancakes without a doubt. Worth going out of your way for, even just for a coffee.

Great place to relax for tourists and locals alike. Reasonably priced drinks and food. I can't go past the chilli cheese fries as it reminds me of one of my favorite places in Tassie. I have never stayed as an overnight guest but it wouldn't hesitate to try if I were travelling. Modern, clean and elegant from all available impressions.

Having breakfast is probably one of the nicest places in Townsville. Warm friendly staff, fresh, home-made food and clean cool environment.

Loved Rambutan. Good food, great service. It's very chill. Definitely check it out if you're in the CBD on a weekend. The rooftop bar is great and food is served quickly. Will definitely go again. 5 stars.

Interiors lovely. Service nice. Cocktails and chicken wings pretty good, especially from a resort. But Sundae not great (cake stale, not a lot of flavour).

This was an incredible stay. Wow! Major kudos to the owners and the designers. Floored! Staff were super friendly even the night security who checked us in. Highly recommend the double room! nicer than a 4 star hotel!

The Hostel itself is top but the rooms are pretty cramped and the Wi-Fi works only 1 time for 15 minutes of the day though, there are 3 Wi-Fi Router.

It didn't feel like a standard Backpackers hostel. Even though the priced matched the other hostels in town. All new. 1 year old and everything is done properly. Rooms are great amazing facilities just outside the door and good service.

Good venue, clean flashy facilities. Has a very nice poolside dining area with a sort of bungalow type setup on the edges of the pool, dining at the end. Food is expensive and targeted at entre type foods with steaks and meals way out of target for a uni student. Very nice scenery and lots of tables and bar seating with plenty of room to find a quiet place. Good bar service with $5 beers. Mixers around $8 Rooms are cheapish but I did not stay so cannot comment on amenities. Overall a great venue, albeit a bit expensive for a backpackers Located in the heart of the nightclub strip.

Great place to chill out at the rooftop restaurant for a bite to eat at lunch. Vertu good food. Try the Cubano Poboy. It's ridiculously good. But be hungry. It's massive. Or share if you can manage not to try to eat it all yourself.

Beautiful design around the poor & bar area. Normal pricing. Smoking area: no seating & drinks allowed. Beware the bar can close early ie 9.40pm when we were there.

Fantastic staff, service, and facilities. I don't approve of babies being allowed in the pool. If you are in diapers, no pool for you.

Pure Party Hostel. Loud music is already up and running from early afternoon until late in the Evening. Lighting around the Pool all night and penetrates deep into the room. Clubs with a lot of public transport to the Hostel. External guests also visit the pool bar, where the rest periods don't matter. Sleep is impossible! Kitchen is not properly clean and poorly equipped. The room, Pool and plumbing to be clean. So, who wants to make Party, can descend. Otherwise, prefer the more quiet Hostel around the corner.

Great location. All we need is some fans on the balcony on those still townsville summer nights.

A very upscale and comfortable backpackers in a great location in Townsville. Spotless rooms and dorms are set around a pool on the rooftop with a bar and restaurant. There is also a kitchen, laundry and affordable indoor parking.

Great place to eat and great atmosphere. We had our company Christmas party here and it was a hit.

Elfresco style dining reasonably priced, the manager Dom has really lifted the dining experience for Townsville. Great place for drinks and work functions.

Stayed at Rambutan for work what a pleasant surprise, great value for a king room @$119, roof top pool bar, very sexy decor I would expect in LA not Townsville, reasonably priced food US style and very friendly laid back staff. Highly recommend and I will be back thanks Helen.

Absolutely amazing, l have been traveling the east coast for three months now and have not come across a place like this for quality and all round value. L was booked for one night but ended up staying three, the staff were friendly and helpful and the American style food was very unexpected. Highly recommend this to any type of traveler.

I had 'THE BEST' time staying here. This is a resort, so quirky, trendy and definitely not like other backpackers. The food is absolutely magnificent. It's also in the middle of the city, overlooks the river and next to the beach. Walk from the bus or ferry 2 minutes.
