Absolute legends! Stayed in between places and the free laundry and computers were such a bonus. Great kitchen and living area with Netflix. Good location and a tight knit crew are really welcoming ☺️

You will not be disappointed. Such good vibes and everyone so lovely helpful and thoughtful. Best!

I feel comfortable as a first timer trying out a backpackers hostel. I got lucky that even though I booked a female 4 bedder dorm, it was empty that night thus I had the whole room to myself. There is a super market that opens 24/7 across the main road when u walk out, convenient if you need to grab something at night. Bring your own padlock if you wanna use their lockers, it is free. Staffs are friendly and approachable. Toilets are clean. You may expect some noise at times when your next door neighbours talk a little louder and some music, the lounge is just right outside the rooms so expect the sounds. I would still come back here to stay in future with my girlfriends or husband.

Best experience ever! Cool people from all over the world and amazing facilities. Also, great deals for nightclubs, sightseeing, theme parks and everything that The Gold Cost has to show! Congratulations for all the staff too.

The atmosphere is just amazing in this place…
You just have to arrive here and you will feel part of the family.

The kitchen is the best one that you can find in a hostel. The common areas like the pool, the living room, party area they are all perfect to have fun and meet a lot of nice people.
Defenetelly it was my best decision to get here!

Older hostel but full of great staff and AWESOME location :-)

We just completed a 4week trip from Canberra to Brisbane and this was by far the best hostel we stayed at. At 1st when we got our in a room with the night manager I was kinda of disappointed as I thought it would limit our fun, however it was the complete opposite he was extremely helpful and polite and a cool dude. The hostel itself is full of young polite staff members and the felicities are everything you need. With 6-7 free to use Mack books, free Wi-Fi everywhere, and free laundry! And also free pool on a really good pool table The kitchen was kept tidy by staff who cleaned several times a day and had enough hobs for around 7-8 people to cook at once. If given the chance I of returning to the Gold Coast I will definitely be staying at this hostel.

Wonderful place, really friendly staff. Looks really clean and modern. Good offer in kitchen supplies, nice lounge area, pool table and even an 'partyroom' for some Beerpong in the evenings. Bathrooms and toilets are modern and clean, staff cleans it a minimum of 2 times a day. Really good vibe at this place, had a great time here.

Large, modern hostel with pretty good bathrooms, a decent kitchen and comfortable rooms. It's furthermore pretty well located as it is close to the beach and the city. It can solely be a bit noisy as it is more of a party place.

Really good hostel, fair price and beautiful place, 200m to the beach. The staff is kind and attentive, a lot of party deals and animations, the building was well renovated, the kitchen and bathroom are veryclean and usefull.

This is the most neat and clean hostel I've ever been to. It's so beautiful and comfortable. Definitely stay here if you have the chance. You have a party room with beer pong and pool table, but also a chill spot with couches and a big TV. Absolutley perfect.

Filthy kitchen with literal cockroaches in it (we counted at least four), beds have painful springs sticking up in them waking you up throughout the night (my back was sore every morning, I even developed a bruise). Smokers ignore signs and smoke right in front of doors. Kitchen sinks and one of the only two available bathroom sinks on second floor were clogged. Only good things were friendly staff, cheap coffee and free laundry. My response to the owner: Oh, honey, this isn't an age thing. I've been staying in hostels plenty of times and know exactly what to expect. I do not expect cockroaches, filth, and mattresses so painfully awful they must've been collected from the dump. It's telling that your only answer to being confronted on such horrible conditions is ageist condescension. Do better.

Very nice Hostel! The Bathrooms are new and the kitchen is very clean :) so also the public areas are well furnitured with big Screens, iMacs also you can wash for free☺ amazing for backpackers. this is the first place in australia, where I was able to checkout til 12:00

Staff was helpful. The 4 bed dorm was nice, but the shower head sprayed everywhere. Easy price to pay to have a shower and toilet in the room though. However, being on the 4th floor, you can hear everything on the 5th, which doesn't quiet down until midnight, and then the cleaners scoot the tables and chairs around which made the worst squeaking noise and woke me up. Location was pretty convenient, there was always an Uber like 5 minutes away.

Central location, close to the shops in Surfer's Paradise as well as the tram stop. Rooms & facilities were kept very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Free Wi-Fi and laundry was also very good.

and they provide free laundry and laundry powder, also free clothes dryer
and free hair dryer ready all the time

Down Under is on of the best if not the best hostel I've stayed in. Management are super friendly, you get free Wi-Fi, free washing powder and laundry. It's clean. Kitchen facilities are spot on. Ps4, pool table! This hostel has the lot. Would recommend it to all party goers!

Positives — location, value for money, relatively clean. Negatives — could feel the springs in my bed, people tended not to clean up after themselves in the kitchen area, the water temperature in the showers fluctuated a lot. Personally, I found there to be a strange, uncomfortable vibe about the place.

This is a good hostel. I'm a bit older now but every so often I'd like to stay in a hostel, to rememeber my younger days as a backpacker. This is what I'll looking for at my younger age.

Not the best place. The first thing I noticed upon arriving where the guests, possibly even some of the staff, smoking right outside the front door where there were plenty of "No smoking here" signs posted. Throughout my whole stay these signs appear to be completely ignore by everyone and staff did nothing to stop it. Reception was not rude but they definatly weren't friendly. The room, a 14 mix dorm, was messy but that was to be expected with that many people and no lockers. But I definatly saw cans and bottles of beer just sitting on the floor despite the sign on the door saying no drinking in the room. The bed were clean but not every bunk had a plug in near by and if you are on a top bunk, good luck no of those have a plug in the best you can hope for is one near the floor. The room was also really noisy at night, not because of the people in the room but the people outside. The room is located right at the front of the buliding and you can hear everything that the people hanging out front smoking are saying. There is absolutely no soundproofing so you can hear everything going on outside on the street. And people love to hang out in front of the building to chat apperently because I was woken up several times thoughout the night by people on the front step loudly chatting and laughing. When I checked the time it was 1 am and 3am, I didn't bother to check everytime I was woken up buy in any case these are at hours no one wants to be woken up at.

One of the best hostels I have come across… Party central and very friendly and welcoming staff. Ill defenitely recommend them.

Pathetic. The rooms downstairs are small, no aircondition, no window, no ventilaltion. They give you one pedestal fan for a room of 6 beds. So the person sleeping on the upper beds die of suffocation and heat. They put you on a torture cell. They just have 2 toilets for the 8 rooms each rooms having 4 people minimum. So basically 32 people just 2 toilets. Which are clean only in the mornings and eventually you either have to wait or use the dirty ones. Most of the people staying there work there. So everyone claims to be a staff. And if you go with your problems to one of them. The suggestion and order that one gives the other staff member will not like and will argue with you saying why did you hear him/her. The people claiming to be the managers donot know how to manage. They just listen to someone's complaint try to mint money from the other guest to refund that person. Overall a bad experience. Overall a bad experience. With bad staff and bad environment.

Awsome Hostel! The staff were great and helpful. Rooms were clean and bed were comfy.

It's a great hostel with a very nice staff, good community areas and they organize events all nights. It is well located in the middle of Surfers Paradise and they make you feel like at home.

Clean facilities, washing and Wi-Fi are free as well as the pool table. It has iMacs to use for everyone. The location is very central. Good hostel overall!

Friendly staff, cool atmosphere and overall great hostel. Free Wi-Fi, laundry and iMac use should be enough but everything is also clean and social. You will make friends here whether you want to or not. Definitely will recommend this hostel to others who are traveling to Surfer's Paradise.

Best hostel I have stayed in! Rooms are very clean and the facilities are second to none. Everything is free which is always a plus and its great fun and the location is perfect! I stayed a week at the islander and then come to the down under was the best decision I ever made! if you come surfers this is where you stay!

Worst hostel I've ever stayed in. No lock on the door because it was broken terrible non existent facilities. Everyone was rude unfriendly, basement area down stairs where everyone drinks is under the rooms so the noise forces you to go out (in surfers generally not a bad thing) but nice to have the option. Got out of there first thing in the morning. Honesty save your time & avoid — better yet just to to Byron!

Legit one of the most fun hostels I've stayed in, the management are really good, free internet, free I macs, respectful envireonment, modern feel, feels like im at a nice hotel, and its really homey, free laundry, close to shops and trams, all you can eat vegan buffet just around the corner, two minutes to beach, park to work out in. All over its a good stay. Defs recommend this place. Arnoud is a good manager and the staff are super friendly.
