Trevor and Yvonne, our hosts at Yarrandabbi Dreaming, are just the best. My husband and I stayed for a month’s holiday in the Writers Cottage and it was just delightful. The cottage is very lovely and the special touches such as luxurious bed linen and designer bath towels made us feel very pampered. We often joined our hosts of the main deck for a late afternoon gin and tonic and took in the sprawling views of the bay and Stradbroke Island. We saw the best moonrise ever! I utilized the complimentary kayak and life jacket almost everyday and explored Perulpa Bay, Perulpa Island, Cow Bay, Lamb Island Passage and everything in between. I got up close and personal with dugongs and large turtles. I saw manta rays, dolphins and fish jumping up out of the water — just stunning. There are serene mangrove forests to paddle through at high tide, sandy beaches to pull up on for a rest, and a fenced swimming area at Pats Point with lovely clear water for a dip. Back at Yarrandabbi Dreaming I swam in the crystal clean waters of their stunning 12 metre pool, prepared meals in the cottage’s well equipped kitchen, and then enjoyed our meals on the cottage veranda overlooking the pool area garden and the blue waters of the bay. We ate out lots. We also brought in great takeaway from one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve experienced (walking distance from the cottage, as is the excellent Scorpion Cafe). We ate at the bowling, golf and sailing clubs as well as having had yummy burgers and beer at the Pub and great brunches at The Blue Parrot Cafe. The supermarkets are adequate for most things and there is a brilliant deli store with fresh vegetables and fruit and gourmet items. Chemist and medical services were good. I popped over to the mainland for s shopping fix — an affordable single ticket $9 gets you the scenic passenger ferry and the connecting bus to the shopping center at Victoria Point. As well as all the usuals there were some excellent op shops (as there is on Macleay Island itself). We took our car over on the car ferry to MacLeay Island on day one from Redland Bay so we had it to get around the island but there is a taxi service, good bike paths and complimentary bus services from licensed premises. Yarrandabbi is indeed a dream come true — the apartment is beautiful with a large spa bath and the whole property is clearly well loved, with Trevor and Yvonne doing all they can to ensure you love it too. Book in for as long as you can for a perfect relaxing holiday from the madness of city life! We’ll definitely be back. If you’re staying for a while, bring your own wine over on the ferry as there is a limited selection at the only take away liquor outlet at the pub.
