My husband and I went there today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was the first time we dined there, and oh my goodness, the experience was AMAZING. The staff is so friendly and the food was awesome. Beautiful atmosphere and I would absolutely visit there again.

The staff are great. The atmosphere is exactly how you want an old pub to be. Dim lighting, lots of wood panelling and minimal noise. The Irish chicken curry is the best I’ve ever tasted, bar none. 👍🏻

We went there for happy hour, had beer and wine plus we both had Chicken Parmi which was very nice. Great service, food was hot and nicely served. Would definitely recommend if visiting here.

Totally agree with comments about booked tables. Sat down today at an unbooked table and had lunch and was having a drink after to have a tile put on table that it was booked for 15 mins later. Would have stayed longer but obviously with kids we can't sit at bar. Disgraceful way to treat customers.

Rooms weren't high-end, but amazing for their price! Staff were great and helpful in everything from cleaning to drinks at the pub. They had a free breakfast which isn't noteworthy, but for $0 it's a good price. Only real problem might be the cleanliness of the bathroom, which was a little sub-par.

Sat down for drinks and dinner, no indication table was prebooked and after two rounds and just before we were planning to go up and order dinner, a staff member places tile on our table stating that we would have to leave at 8:15pm as table was booked. Decided if we were going to be rushed/kick out better not to order at all. Make sure you book a table before you come for dinner.

Good live music. However, very strict on people hwving a good time. The fun the police are out if. You look like you are enjoying. Yourself your out on. Your arse.

Been living in the rocks for the last 6 months and I thought it would be nice to say and give some credit to the mercantile, it’s a great pub with a lovely pint of Guinness and great food, very good drinks offers and happy hours. The staff are really hard working and very friendly, brilliant live music and good atmosphere you do Ireland proud! Keep up the good work guys and girls!

Amazing place… 200% Recommended! Awesome ambiance, crowd, beer everything… we walked in to the place for the love of Guinness beer… met interesting people who made of feel welcome and comfortable… don`t know his name but definitely an Irish guy… would definitely go back on my next visit to Sydney Opera house :) :)

Food was excellent — my steak with prawns and Tricia's salmon — and wine was good. Service staff were courteous and helpful and service was tops. Martin & Shindig's "during dinner music" was excellent also. Recommended.

Awesome location with helpful staff. The rooms are small, but they're cosy and clean. Shared bathrooms, but that's common in this area. The hotel serves nice, quick meals and breakfast is included with your stay. No elevator, so be ready to haul your luggage up a few flights of stairs. Can't beat the price for the area.

Decent Irish pub in the heart of Sydney's Rocks. They had a traditional Irish band playing that made for a great atmosphere.

I love the Irish vibe mixed with Sydney heritage, good food and the atmosphere is lovely, also good for a night out or somewhere to stay overnight. Would recommend.

Longest Irish pub with the longest wait time. We waited 1 hour for our food and when it arrived, it was cold. Some dishes looked and tasted wonderful however the wait was too long. Vibes are good with live music and happy hour. Would recommend the chicken curry and pappardelle however stay away from the Irish sausages (lacked flavour) and the haloumi and vege burger (charred mushrooms)

Loved it older style close to cruise ships and also every Saturday they have a huge market right out the door of pub loved it.

What a magnificent pin. Beautiful tiles best location. No visit to Sydney is complete without a visit.

Great place to visit, drink and eat. One of Sydneys best iconic pubs with a great selection of beers and yummy hot food.

Not what it says on the booking. Room clean. But basic. The breakfast bread and 2 types of cereal. Discolored bananas. No service. 2 flights of stairs to our room. The whole place needs a good cleaning.

Good food and booze. Excellent location. Friendly staff. Nice but small rooms. Clean shared toilet and shower facilities. It could use some fresh paint in a few places. But it is a very nice place to stay in Sydney.

Lunch Specials are between 11 and 4pm on weekdays. Cheap and good food served. Good atmosphere and friendly staff members. To be honest it's one of the few places in Sydney that has an outdoor area that serves alcohol as well. If visiting Sydney, note that this place is close to the Harbour Bridge walk up and has The Rocks Market running along it on weekends.

Guinness beer — 50% of water. We are very dissapointed!

Great location close to circular quay and in The Rocks which is close to the opera house, the harbor bridge, trains and buses, losts of dining and more. Only complaint is that it's right on the street and its over a bar so a bit of noise but it's shut down by 11 so just street noise at night. An older building but everyone is nice and accommodating and rooms and bathrooms are nice and clean. I'd stay here again.

The food in the restaurant was not worth his money. Small portions and the ordering steak was fried completely dry instead of medium. The side dishes, however, were delicious …

The Mercantile is one of the last bar as you go down George St in the rocks. It usually has live music playing classics and had two bars during peak time. Has lots of outdoor seating and is a favourite for locals and visitors alike.

The Mercantile is an old Pub in The Rocks with a ton of history. The outdoor seating is a great way to enjoy the breeze in the shade on a hot day. Food can be a cut above standard Pub Grub — my Barramundi was delicious. Gets busy on a Friday after 5

Typical Rocks pub but fast service, outdoor area and good vibe. Live music is great and a lot of fun. Good for groups and parties. It’s the Rocks so low key and a but if tough and tumble. Staff are efficient and friendly. Fun night out especially when live music is on and crowd singing along.

DONT NOT SLEEP HERE** ABSOLUTE ROBBERY! $300 for that, WOW, the owner is living the dream! A dirty cheap hotel turned nightclub, late extremely loud music that doesn't stop till 1am! The hotel is extremely dirty, hotel staff were rude and when we went to complain about the heavy loud music, they refused anything point blank! Such a beautiful place, there are better hotels within a 2 metre distance of this one! TAKE MY WORD, IF YOU WANT A AVERAGE/NICE HOTEL, GO AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE TO THIS PLACE!

Hidden just in the heart of the city, but still relaxed and cozy. The bar service is very friendly, and tap beer is very good. The kitchen is delicious and ready to make a new order if you ordered the wrong dish accidentally. Very democratic prices for such a good quality and perfect service.

This was my first visit here. It is very easy to find, just get off at Wynyard station and walk north along George Street, almost to the harbour Bridge. My girlfriend and I went there with some friends for drinks, so we didn't stay the night, just ate and drank. There is seating inside and outside. We chose to sit outside. It was a bit noisy, being on a road, but the amount of traffic going past was very minimal. Happy hour was 5 — 7, we arrived at 6, so we got a full hour of cheap drinks, with wine/beer and spirits all being $5, which is very cheap for the area. I had a steak and Guinness pie, which was amazing. It is labelled as an Irish bar, but it didn't seem that Irish to me. They had live music which was a nice feature. I'd definately go back again for another pie, it was just that good.

We had our first date here 10yrs ago and went back this year The food was amazing and could not complement the chef enough. Atmosphere is amazing, band was amazing and the staff were amazing and very friendly and accomodating. Could not recommend this place enough and can't wait to come back.

Staff are very friendly, the chicken parmigiana was outstanding, beer was cold, room was clean & tidy and great location with short walk to overseas passenger terminal for our cruise the next day. Already planning next trip and this is the place we will most likely be staying!

Great live music on a Saturday afternoon. Historical old pub, with reasonably priced drinks. A favourite in Sydney. The customer service left a little to be desired on this occasion (often very good), but the jovial atmosphere more than made up for it!

Lovely people running the place. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Competitive price. EXCELLENT location; next to all main sightseeing and ferries, easy transit nearby. It's above a patio restaurant and bar, so there is noise, but they closed at 10 the night we stayed so it wasn't noisy for long. No airport shuttle, but they will call you one.

Great Location, Great Staff, Awesome Meals. Old character filled rooms which are clean tidy and comfortable. Lots of stairs to climb to get to rooms, and very noisy on Sat night with their band playing. Good music though.

Service was friendly, and fairly fast, staff happily brought out high chairs for the babies, range of beer was good, prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. (The spicy chicken burger actually had a little kick to it. )

An amazing pub/hotel. I stayed here for 4 nights whilst visiting Sydney and it was very comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing! It is in a great location! The pub has a great selection of local beers and also they do a very good pint of Guinness! Would highly recommend!

I went there on Sep 7, 2014 at 8.15pm but the security with dark hair didn't even let me in. After finished the church time at The Garrison Church I walked to the bar, it took about 10 mins walk. When I get there, I presented my Thai driving license to show that I'm over 20. The security took my card and asked me 'how many drink I'd like to have? ' He asked twice because I coudn't catch up at the first time. So I answered 'one drink' then he stared at me and told me he couldn't let me get in the bar. He told me that my voice didn't sound ok and I think also heard the word "toxication". Could this be racism? What kind of accent/sound a security expect from a man from oversea? I did everything in the way they should be. I present ID, speak politely, didn't raise my voice, walked straight not like a drunken. This is my 2nd time I came to this place. The 1st was on last Sunday evening 4.00pm, everything was perfect. I even want to give 6 stars for all daytime staffs. The atmosphere was so lovely and lively. My comment is not really about the hotel but please don't let someone's poor attitude/judgement skill to shame your reputation. Finally I left there without any explanation given. I was not in the mood to drink anymore. I was upset and frustrated but it'd be better to get myself to another place that 'respect' me. I will be back but definitely not the night time.

Plenty of seats either at the long 4 sided bar or within one of the smaller rooms located within or the on the porch. The chicken schnitzel is very good, as is the chicken parmesan is very good. Their onion rings and chips are good and plentiful for a fair price. They also have numerous TV's showing whatever sports are on.

This hotel has a superb place. You will be staying in the heart of Sydney! It is where all is happening. The place is walking distance to everything. The only concern is price. As everything in Sydney it is expensive. Service was good.
