I stay here almost every week for business. I choose the Diplomat due to the lovely staff. I feel welcome every visit.

Reception lady was so poliet on arrival. Room was very clean and well serviced. Drinks a little expensive. But bar lady was very nice. Great service. Would stay here again. As I know the bed was clean. Cheers to all the staff. Well done.

Lovely place great staff but no steak on the dinner menu… never mind! 5 minute cab ride to Kingston and al it's restaurants.

The staff at the bar and restaurant are wonderful. I go for the Friday night specials. Great food and friendly service.

I attended a networking event here and found the parking difficult. However they have renovated inside, the function room was small but nice, the staff were fantastic, the bar service was fast and food was delicious! If you are thinking of booking a small function this is a great place to do so.

A huge miss on so many levels. Rooms are not as they are presented online (be careful). Huge variations in reality. If you like racing stripes then you are in luck. Arrived for a 6 day stay to a room that hadn't been cleaned in over a week. Subcontracting was the reason! Staff don't know the rooms in the hotel. Downgrading was the best option. Very minimal staff onsite, particularly over the weekend. Room service/restaurant was average (bring a warm jacket if dining in, in winter months) but Kingston has a wide array of great restaurants, so worry not. Construction all around was an early morning surprise. Considering the area, we were expecting so much more but received so much less!

Love this hotel, open your door and only a few metres to the restaurant. Food and service is fantastic and they have a little library for you to borrow books, newspapers and lifestyle magazines. Highly recommend!

Things don't always go to plan. Some good businesses keep customers happy when everything goes to plan. The really good ones can fix things when they don't go to plan. After a minor booking anomaly that I queried, the staff looked into it and voluntarily offered gracious compensation, including a hand written note on arrival. The staff were from the first to the last friendly, helpful and eager to please. They are also innovative in how they encourage environmentally friendly initiatives in a way that incentivise guests as well as the hotel. As a business owner myself I commend a business that can turn a negative into a resounding positive. Well done!

Staff are friendly and the rooms were large. The meal was what I would expect from hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, on arrival our room had not been cleaned and there was a toothbrush left in the bathroom from a previous guest. This was addressed quickly and without issue. During the time of our stay the hotel was undergoing renovations. As a result there was a strong smell of paint and glue. The renovation were needed and all involved were sympathetic to the situation. I am not sure I got as much value as I would expect for the amount I paid; however, my family enjoyed it.

Beautifully clean & the bed & shower were amazing. Dinner & breakfast were lovely too. We would definately stay here again.

Went to a dinner with family friends for my parents' wedding anniversary. Service was excellent with friendly staff and the quality of food was exceptional. Meals provided were of a generous quantity as well. I would highly recommend everyone to go try the meals at Diplomat.

This hotel has been renovated. But you'd never tell. Inside it has the charm of an old cruise ship in need of refit, and at 5am the ventilation plant comes on-line to give you the soundtrack to go with it. The rooms are clean and comfortable and my shower was great, but the room was fitted-out awkwardly as if the renovators bought all the furniture at a fire sale and didn't care if it would fit. No internet for the first day of my stay. However, the staff were excellent. Food was fairly good but the dining experience was uncomfortable, with the few dining tables taking centre-stage in the giant belly of the SS Diplomat.

A boutique hotel with a very nice restaurant. Needs a bit of TLC and a better breakfast set up but an enjoyable stay, all in all. An excellent lounge area, with games, magazine, books and television — something for the adults and children.

Very hot shower. You have to go to the reception to pick up a toothbrush.

I have to start by stating the hotel was under renovation during our stay, so this does impact the review. Overall the hotel is a nice hotel. Thee rennovations did impact the bar offerings and did result in additional noise during the day. The hotel was clean, and the happy hour from 5 to 6pm was nice. It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to get anywhere, but the hotel does rent bikes which makes everything accessible. Overall a nice stay worth the daily rate.

We stayed for a night. It was clean and the staff were friendly. The lounge was real cute. Would have loved to try the bar and restaurant but didn't have time. I would definitely recommend this place.

Stayed 4 nights and was happy with our level 3 room which was a little dated but spacious, clean and tidy. Our room had a balcony that faced a main road but we could not hear traffic. Air condioner was effective and quiet. Bathroom was clean, well equipped with a shower/bath though a little small. Nice and hot with good water pressure. TV, Bar fridge. No in-room safe. Had dinner in "Booked" restaurant one night and was pleasantly surprised with the food quality and service. Great value hotel and we would definately stay again.

Great location. Under renovations so will be even a better experience. Staff attentive and friendly. Plenty of parking. Gym, sauna and outdoor pool. Small restaurant and bar. Nice common area with library, games and television. Thoroughly recommended.

So we were “upgraded” to a room with better amenities however the extra bed that we needed which got wheeled in is way below hotel quality. It honestly should be in the dump this mattress. I don’t want to know how old it is. Also the dishwasher in this second room hadn’t been emptied, had dirty dishes in it despite being full. Not sure if this place is severely understaffed or what. The one staff member assisting us was doing well despite not having much to work with.

I stayed there for two weeks recently and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and management. The hotel is located near (i. E. A short walking distance) to the shops, cafes and restaurants in Manuka and near to the Lake. However, the hotel also has a very spacious bar and restaurant (which serves very fast and very good food, at a very reasonable price). If you like a walk (and the many sites and features in Canberra are best visited on foot), then this hotel is the place for you. Within a 20 minute walk from the Diplomat, you can be either in paddocks with cows on the eastern Lake or in parliament grounds. I did my own work each day in the hotel, yet the hotel felt more like a big home. I will most certainly be back.

Room was nice and big and staff were very friendly. Location was fine, close enough to the city centre.

The room was big, everything was clean. The heating worked well and the food was yummy. The spa was a bit loud and the bubbles were pretty intense but apart from that it was a perfect stay.

We had dinner at Booked, the restaurant at the diplomat. It's a relaxed and quite place to eat. The means were good, having veggies with the meat as well. Would recommend.

This is a lovely hotel which caters well for children. There are lots of kids games in the foyer and a happy hour for the parents :)

The building is well kept, and very interesting in its layout with the book-themed bar/restaurant in the middle. The rooms are decent enough. The seem a little aged but are well-kept, and there is very good water pressure. There is Wi-Fi here which is important as I am here for work and need to connect to work to check mail and do small tasks occasionally. Check in was quick and painless, and everything was in order. I do warn you about the indoor car park, there are spots between very tight columns: if you have a second person, your car should fit with a bit of direction. The parking is secured behind gates. The hotel has a bit of a well-known used feel to it. It came recommended by friends of mine, and it has lived up to their recommendation.

Nice well located hotel. Interiors are dated but clean and comfortable. Apparently to be renovated soon. Staff very helpful and tried hard to make our stay enjoyable. Good parking. Brekky was OK.

Absolutely fantastic! Stayed in a King Spa Suite and got the bed and breakfast deal. We loved both the spa and the bed (definitely the comfiest I've ever slept on! ), plus the suite had a beautiful view of the sunrise. The only downside was all the fittings were quite old, and the Foxtel was blurry but it added to the overall cosy-feeling of the suite and meant that my partner and I spent more time talking with each other (and playing board games). The high point was definitely the downstairs restaurant and bar, Booked. The breakfast buffet was amazing, and the staff were very helpful and attentive, offering to warm or recook any food that wasn't to our liking. The dinner we had was also amazing, best steak I've had in a long time, and the buffalo wings were to die for. We didn't want to leave, after spending so much time in such a relaxing environment and will definitely be back.

I don't know why people would fuss about anything there, my personal experience was more than pleasurable and very reasonably priced. Well, this is it, for the price we paid we received everything, and even over than what was expected 1. Clean 2. Quiet 3. Convenient 24 hour friendly reception 4. Great restaurant service and food (maybe a little pricey) bur genuinely good food 5. Receotion staff are very professional and care about the image and reputation 6. Good strong pressure shower 7. Very nicely designed rooms 8. Very comfortable beds and pillows (they also have pillow room with different pillow types to suit your needs) 9. Lots of TV channels to choose from 10. Very cosy all in all I'll defintely be back.

Nice small hotel but they failed to heed my written request for no feathers (I am allergic). Happily they had many alternatives, but it would have been better if they got it right before I arrived.

First time here and it was a pleasure. Beyond expectations for the price. Comfortable bed, happy and friendly staff and near enough to all the decent cafes and restaurants.

I'm only 10, however I loved it. I stayed for two days and it was fantastic. There were only a few downsides though. It was a bit hard to get in and out of the bath/shower. Construction across the road started early in the morning and woke my family up. Car park was too small. Car park was really hard to move around. Please think about giving spots to keep for the stay so people won't have to get home early to get a spot. Other than that I was completely happy about it. The restaurant Booked was awesome too, great staff, great food and great location.

Great location, and we were provided with a seperate conference room for the birthday event/dinner. The service provided by staff during the birthday dinner was outstanding. Quality of food served exceeded our expectations.

We stayed a total of three nights and during this time we had no complaints. Service was great and the staff super friendly. The food was really good and the room was lovely and clean upon arrival. We also had secure parking avaliable to us. The location of the hotel was great, as we had our car avaliable to us everything was only a few minutes driving distance.

The only blemish to an otherwise pleasant stay was the absence of a microwave in the room. Highly recommended for value for money.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and booked a 1 bedroom apartment. It is very close to Manuka shops, war memorial and art gallery. Free Wi-Fi and parking. The staff were attentive and helpful. The book and magazine collection was fantastic and you could grab a book and read at your leisure. I did not have a microwave in my apartment but mentioned this and the staff delivered it to our room. No problems. Will definitely stay here again. Very quiet as well. Thanks for a great weekend.

Number one of my places to stay in canberra. I stay in canberra once a year for the last 5 year's now, and the diplomat has friendly staff great rates free secure parking free speedy Wi-Fi which is good for me but great for my 16year old daughter who is a child of technology and loves free Wi-Fi. Breakfast was included for me at the time I booked to add to my experience. The breakfast menu is pretty good. I cant say a bad word about this place. Try it for your self you wont be disappointed.

Any hotel of this class that offers free and easy Wi-Fi gets 4 stars instantly. Other reviewers say old and shabby, not so! Vetran maybe, classy and comfortable.

Clean and good sized room, free Wi-Fi and carpark, friendly staff. We had very good breakfast and dinner at their restaurant. Pool and gym areas weren't in good condition, but weren't described as amenities on their website anyway. Overall had a very good staying there and definitely would recommend it.
