Lempuyang Temple, also known as Pura Lempuyang Luhur, is a sacred Hindu temple located in the village of Jasri in Bali, Indonesia. The temple is situated on the slopes of Mount Lempuyang and is one of the oldest and most revered temples on the island.
The temple complex consists of seven temples, each located at a different elevation on the mountain. Visitors must climb a long staircase of over 1,700 steps to reach the highest temple, which is located at an altitude of 1,175 meters above sea level. The temple is known for its stunning architecture and intricate carvings, which are made from white stone and feature intricate details and motifs. The temple's most famous feature is the "Gateway to Heaven," a towering stone archway that frames a stunning view of Mount Agung, Bali's highest volcano.
Visitors to Lempuyang Temple are required to wear traditional Balinese clothing and to observe strict rules of conduct, including no smoking, no loud noises, and no touching of the temple's sacred objects. The temple is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds and to experience the temple's peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.
